How critical is the fit on hydraulic drive motor mount plate ?

I am building a hydraulic drive setup and was looking to see how critical the fit has to be for the BIG hole the motor face passes through.

O.d. is 3 1/4" on the motor part . And its a almost 4,000 inch lb torque motor low speed .

Will be mounted on a chunk of 1/4 or 3/8 thick C-channel with the hild in the middle . this will drive a chain sprocket coupler setup with #60 chain .

Going to depend on what type coupling you use, or if it will be driving a belt. If you are using a lovejoy or driving a belt, it's not super critical. Going with a rigid or very inflexible coupler and it will be critical.

But what is on the other end of that coupler? Chain coupler only allow 1 degree of misalignment.

The fit you are concerned about is not critical

I would bolt on a plate so you had adjustment to align things and depending on style use shims for height adjustment as that chain coupling isn't going to be properly aligned if you weld it in.

Love these options . Going to order option #1 in the morning . Yaa i could make stuff but this late in the game = just buy 2 and be done .

Definitely need to take the weight of the motor off the shaft/coupling. Some sort of foot bracket that can be shimmed is commonly used. Misalignment will eventually break the shaft. A Lovejoy/Magnalloy type coupling is more forgiving than the chain and sprocket type.
