A bit of a delayed reply but last weekend I bought al these pliers at the price of a a pound a piece! Thats $1.36 a pop for NOS european pliers 👌

IMG_4612.jpeg

The Peugeot pliers are unusual even in the UK, a bit reaarch indicates last century but who knows? The quality is excellent, and there was zero corrosion for something sat in a box for 30:years, (All made in France). The Elliot Lucas are lovely and are about 30 years old, perfect alignment and feel lovely.

IMG_4613.jpeg

The west German made Talco are fabulous - the jaws close squarely and the chromes excellent. Same for the insulated Stubai pliers. I’m keeping the Peugeot pincers as daily users, there that good.

This vintage Case knife display cabinet it’s from the mid 70s. I believe this is the date 11/77 thats stamped in inside the cabinet.
I purchased this on a social media forum.
What was amazing it was 1.1 miles from my house. Since there wasn’t a key I made one.
The glass is missing and I think plexiglass will work.
I paid less than Franklin for it.

Just a free suggestion here . Plexiglass attracts dust and is harder to clean. I'd go with real glass as my first option.

Finally there are some garage sales in town. Missed the first day of one but did get my first ever Bell System braces and push drill. I've been accumulating drills and braces for 40+ years and these are the first Bell System that I have found. A Stanley 2101A-10", another 10" Stanley with no model number, and a Stanley Yankee 41 push drill with 8 bits. Three of the bits are regular spiral drill bits with bases that fit the push drill and the rest are typical fluted bits that are more commonly found in these drills. And also picked up 8 Hot Wheels for my grandson.Bell system.jpgHot Wheels .jpg

Went to an estate sale today and spent 5 HOURS digging! It's going to take me a bit to sort through all the stuff I bought but my best deal was probably this Rigid 18 Volt stuff. Vacuum, brushless hammer drill, 1/4" hex driver, 1/2" impact, Power Module for charging cell phones, 4 batteries and 2 chargers. $20 FOR ALL OF IT!

I won 3 lots at an OA last night, scheduled pickup this morning. I haven’t had time yet to inventory everything but figured I would post the pics. 1st lot was a Kennedy 520 machinist toolbox. Looks to be in very good shape, no key. I have been wanting one for a while now but was too cheap to pay what most people wanted. Total price including fees $45. Here are the pictures with what was in the drawers.

You ****!

Round 1, as promised. Teaser pics for now...

20260411_185519~3.jpg20260411_185535~2.jpg

Big shout-out to our younger son (15) for helping me get all of this out and loaded. Took me an hour to sort, another 90 minutes to load and tie down. Lots of stuff spead across two buildings.

Round 2 tomorrow, and I'll bring the trailer Monday just in case.

Mike

Round 2, as promised. More teaser pics...

20260412_185352.jpg20260412_212847.jpg

That's a 6-inch, no-name Chineseum vise. Only took it because it's MUCH bigger than anything I own, which are all antique family heirlooms.

Worked alone this time, spent around 3 hours sorting and organizing, then another hour loading. I don't mind working in the dark, but could have done without the rain that started as soon as I began loading...

More to come tomorrow!

Mike

Round 3 today:

20260413_151658.jpg

Total FREEBIE haul (so far):

Several stainless steel tables, two stainless carts, a couple of other carts, a bunch of Metro wire storage racks, two steel bookshelves, an all-plastic (Rubbermaid) storage cabinet, a flammables cabinet, two small ladders, a step stool, several heavy-duty plastic pallets, and some building supplies (unistrut, plastic pipe: both of various sizes). Plus the 6-inch vise (in the truck).

Most valuable item (to me) is a lift table (woo hoo!) that needs new casters and a paint job, but lifts and lowers, and doesn't appear to leak!

There may be a few more items available later. I missed out on a few things that I really wanted (they relocated some stuff, and auctioned a lot of others), but this is pretty good.

Mike

Round 4 today...

20260415_115053.jpg20260415_172340.jpg

Pallet racks (3 vertical, so 2 bays), will need to cut them down to fit in the basement. These were sold at auction as part of a bigger package, but the buyer ran out of room in his truck. WIN FOR ME!!!

More miscellaneous building supplies and some pallets (that are probably best as bonfire wood).

Mike

Round 5 today...

20260501_180020.jpg

Three more Metro racks (one tall one with wheels), an old 8-foot Werner fiberglass stepladder, and a bin full of Liquid-Tight conduit (2 different diameters, I just grabbed it without really looking, I'll have to follow up with ID and length).

The building is pretty empty now. I have 3 more Metro racks and a stainless cart with my name on them for the next trip.

Beyond that, we have a buyer coming to look at a bunch of leftover stuff. Whatever he doesn't take will be up for grabs, or destined for a dumpster.

Mike

you bought 2 Jerry cans to get to 10 gallons...

I have a rack I made to stack 3 boat tanks on my eagle trailer's front cargo deck I added to it. works great.

Add a locking steel strap to replace one of the web straps, I lost a Jerry can off the back of my Samurai. one cut adn ot was gone...

Pintos and Vegas were Ford and GM's initial response to the Japanese invasion. My 71 coupe was one of the best cars I ever had, Totally reliable and great gas mileage, near 40 MPG to and from sacraments several times. it was a great car to have during the Gas crises...

I cut the offending bolts short and replaced the stock bumper with some 3X 1-1/2 channel after a rear ender destroyed my bumper, and I wanted to be able to tow a trailer. - All with the 75 HP 1600

I would not mind finding a 71 wagon with the 1600 to pick up as a DD. Not many left...
Back in the mid-70's I worked for a guy that owned a Pinto station wagon with the fake wood panels. It was a very good car, and held up to a lot of abuse. We called it the "Country Squirt."

I've got to give the biggest "YOU ****" of the week to a guy who bought a Toro Zero Turn mower yesterday at the "Rigid" estate sale for 50 bucks. He's probably not on GJ though. The older ladies knew it didn't run but that's all. It was raining yesterday so he came back today and in a couple of minutes had it running, he lives across the street from the estate sale and he drove it across the street and started mowing his lawn!

Plomb 1/2” deep 15/16”
Long C craftsman 1/2” deep 1” crusty

I made a list of three sales I wanted to hit this AM and headed out. First was the sale I hit yesterday, to see what was left. It had been picked over pretty hard inbetween my stops, but some treasures were still to be had
55230455815_c8652abaf1_b.jpg
Small rawhide mallet, bit-brace reamer, empty tin of Pennzoil door ease, Blue Point inspection mirror, screw gauge, drill index, Xcelite nut driver stand, wrenches (Snap-on, Milwaukee tool and forge), Kraeuter ignition pliers, electrical connectors, Truth thingy, Thorsen socket, along with
55230295349_60aedf236e_b.jpg
this full-grained cowhide camera case (to be repurposed as a range bag).

The second stop was a family run sale, with all my dislikes of those. The CL ad showed a garage with a five drawer Pressteel mid box, which was what I was after. I made a beeline for it, checked the drawers, which opened buttery smooth, and saw it was filled with tools, which all the other boxes shown and still there were too. I started to make my way to find a price for it, and some guy starts yelling "That is not for sale. None of the tools are for sale". Which happens far too often at family run sales. So, I got in my truck and headed off, as everything else they were selling was trash, literally. This is the ad, by the way. You can see what I mean https://salem.craigslist.org/gms/d/salem-hello-everyone-starting-another/7929234674.html

So, after that, I stopped at the local Restore, where I found two screw starters, and an Orchard Park Xcelite (shown above). After that, I checked out a couple more sales, found nothing of interest, and headed home.
That "Truth thingy" is likely a valve guide remover for Ford Model A/B or Flathead V-8 engines.

Here's my haul for this morning. It seems like this was the first good weekend for everybody nearby to have a garage sale. There were four advertising tools and then two or three more just advertising and then 2 TOOs. Two 8 starts, the rest 9. The closest to home was a bust (cheese grater), the next two were decent for tools, The rest were good for picking up household goods. It was a damp morning so the first few stops were getting a bit of mist on them.

The haul left to right DeWalt DTC410 boroscope, miscellaneous smalls including a MKE 2" 50mm wood eater bit, Vaco 1/8-in ball head, four punches, a center punch, a starrett scriber minus the tip. Pair of needle nose with the triangle containing forged steel USA (so I had to pick them up). Two matching small cigar boxes. Small storage case, Gerber folding knife, two 2" 6400# lifting straps, three kitchen knives, two of which are Henckels.

Still working on organizing the stuff from the "Rigid" estate sale. Here's the camping stuff. Some of this was in the Free pile. The Coleman 220K lanterns were $3 each. The Sears D cell lantern and Sears Hilary 3 burner stove will go in my Sears camping collection.

More stuff from the "Rigid" estate sale Friday. First 3 pics are the Sears and Craftsman stuff, nearly all USA made. Next 3 photos are the USA and other quality tools. There is a nice set of Snap On sockets in a Snap On holder in the sixth Pic. Seventh Pic has a nice no name folding picnic table, cast iron owls that used to be andirons and a few other goodies. Still sorting stuff out!

Local Estate sale today, it was Day two and I had to work yesterday and today so I was on mop up duty. There was way too much stuff left for the last day. They had everything tagged and over priced. Must have scared a lot of people off. I was there 45 min before closing and and basically asked what the I don’t want to pack this **** up price is… Lol. That was $40. Owner had a lot of very nice shop made metrology tools that were just a bit too rich for me. A nice 526 / MC 28 Kennedy remained, heartbroken, but I really don’t have room for another. All are as found…. G-Night!

During the week I had to be in the city to the south of my, so while there I made the rounds of thrift stores and such
55245997673_ff9bab2907_b.jpg
Picking up books (London, Byron, and Chaucer-I studied British Lit in college) and bits (3 unused MT2 in 5/8", 7/8" and 1")
55246086349_1a6262a1b8_b.jpg

And Saturday I made the rounds of the sales. The first two had nothing of interest, and I probably should have hit the third first
55245878196_1a8a3cebe1_b.jpg
Winchester 1892 (I think) stock, National (India) knurling tool, unknown DOE, wire pliers, tattered remains of an old Winchester ammo box, body hammer head, bicycle wrench, keyed lock, Heyco DOE, thread gauge, Square D drum switch, tap sets, small drive screws in box, bolt outs, US corking irons. $10. There was a South Bend 10L that had just sold cheap when I got there (seriously, I had the cash in my pocket), which is both a curse and blessing, as I need another lathe like a hole in my head, but that was a (very dirty) good one.

Next stop was over when I got there at 1pm (what is up with that?), but the last one, which I didn't hold out much hope for was good
55244960032_046aeba1f4_b.jpg
two bread tins for sorting parts, SK metric vinyl bag, peg board tray, razors, P&C ignition wrench, trammel point, set of vintage metric DOE's, MAC combo, Hinsdale DOEs, Billings DOE, SK DBE set. $4.

$23 spent on a solo run to Jake’s flea. (MrsLS is in Ocean City NJ w LesserDottir3 and my MIL.) Unknown plane part, original(?) Leatherman tool, ten 1/4” pegboard hooks, known and unknown pliers, ice pick, unmarked claw hammer head, drivers, Controlled Steel (Danielson) does, Bonney Crocodile, Bonney jellybean 220 S-wrench, Bonney “E” maleable steel S-wrench, five Bonney 3/8dr sockets, Wiss KS kitchen shears, C’man crowntop keychain driver, Barcalo doe, C’man and unk wrenches, LSS hardened steel rule, Industro and Duro hex ell drivers, two hardcover books.
The only leftbehind I can’t forget is a pair of Ohm Walsh II speakers for $30. Forty years ago, I wanted them so badly, but I settled on more traditional KEFs. I still think they are the best-looking speakers I’ve ever seen. Running into them today left me emotionally confused, like seeing an out-of-my-league-back-then classmate bagging groceries. A couple scuffs and dings, but, hey, none of us are in the shape we were then. Then the seller mentioned his go-to guy for repairs, and that helped me move on, a little.

A wander round a Brithish bootsale tiday (flea market) yieled some good buys. Laser dent pulling kit was a tenth of retail at £3 ($4.05) and seems all unused. 18” Wrench is a Record, and it and the Ridgid copy were a £1 ($1.35) each. The new German CK pin punch was £2 ($2.70) and I think is one made by Rennsteig. Screwdrivers were a £1 a pair, and the rag tag selection of wrench’s and pliers just a £1 too!

So £9 in total and £1 to get in - if only thats all I purchased 😇😂
