How big is the photo file? The server may have been overloaded over the weekend, and rejecting large attachments. Or, possible your internet service provider. I know my ISP will reject large files, and especially during times of heavy use.Now it let me upload a photo. That was super weird… wouldn’t let me upload a s I probably tried 10 times over 3 hours
Is it SS?Protecoseal S883A that I started to polish.
Yep. This one is stainless steel. Later on they painted them red.Is it SS?
I can’t find any brand markings.

No rust at all!Nice useful good condition can. It doesn't look rusty at all, and i suppose the inside is just as good.
I've done the same having to make a gasket, except i cut one from the side of an old rubber boot..
If 1983 is old enough for vintage i had better check the dates on a couple of jerrycans that I bought new around that time.
I like the repair, after a little while that gasket will look like it's made for it. Those little tiny nuances are just the reminder that YOU fixed it. Great job.Hit a storage unit sale yesterday and picked up a new can. Vintage? Is '83 old enough?
Sandrik (not a typo) 5L Jerry can--and a real German can! All the markings are consistent with being W. German army.
But the gasket is also 1983. DO I trust it? Nope.
Make a new one--I have Viton sheet, an XActo knife and shaky hands:
Perfect? Nope. Will it work? Most likely.
Fitting the gasket is a bit of a fiddle. The center of the cap is rolled over, so I need to tuck the inside edge under that rim.
Getting it started is always the hard part:
Then it's just like mounting a tire on a rim:
I replaced that ribbed Crafty screwdriver with two smooth ones. Much better. Soapy water for a lube.
Done:
Feels good. I'll test it tomorrow. This will be my Coleman fuel can for the new Vanagon.
If I were a car or truck, I'd be eligible for "antique" plates.does your birth year start with 19 ?![]()

Many years ago (mid 80s), I had a refrigerator start making a squealing noise. Disassembled far enough to determine the fan was making the noise. Removed the fan and examined it to find a small square box on the end of the motor shaft. Box had a hole in it for oiling and looking in the hole could see white felt, indicating the motor had never been oiled when new. Started dripping 3-in-1 oil into the hole and kept at it until it would not accept any more oil. Reassembled the refrigerator and continued using it for another 15 years with no fan problems. The interesting thing about 3 in 1 oil, one of my college professors taught an evening class in small electric motors for housewives and every time someone brought in a motor with dry and caked up bearings it had been faithfully oiled with 3 in 1. Just saying.
