These just arrived from Harry Epstein 😁

Welcome to nice drill bits!

I went to my Norseman container today. Realized that I had recently declared that I don't have any of the Norseman Vortex twistie tips and don't know anything about them, well, wrong! I either broke or lost a drill bit and ordered a replacement from HJE. (They do sell singles!) And that's how a Vortex wound up in my organizer.

And I used it to enlarge these holes! Worked nicely, made curlies.

Knew I had a coupler drive square and found it today. Was a 9/32" , somebody or somehow one end has been reduced (none of my doing).
Fits ok one end, a bit wobbly t'other. Sat in the torque wrench and a NOS Tipco extension from the 50's with military broad arrow.
Quite a result I think.

A visit to the Big Orange Box for a piece of lumber and some hardware, and I came back with a trim square and a multi tool:

I realized that of the three such squares in my workshop, I use the little one most, so I bought another for the garage. As for the multi tool, it was on close-out for $2.50 (from $10), so why not at that price.

My gen 1 M12 right angle die grinder didn't survive a fall from a raised lift arm, and I didn't want to pony up the cash for a Gen 2 version so, Harbor freight had this Hercules version on sale so, I'll give it a shot. While there I picked up a 1/4 drive indexing head ratchet, and a free ICON adapter set.

Also stopped by and received a free Icon adapter set after buying a $13 trim tool set.

I told the cashier that I was cheap for using a coupon and getting a freebie, luckily, she informed me that I was a smart and frugal shopper.
Of course I spent twice as much taking my wife and daughter out for an ice cream.

Which kind you mean ?
Tons of vintage rollers (mine is Powr-Kraft) have a bulk storage area on the bottom.

Your roller is much better because it has drawers all the way down. It is a much better form factor.

I hope to find a cheap insert to turn my bulk storage area into two more drawers. I have seen it in vintage catalogs… but, I have never seen one in real life. I would buy a whole other roller with the insert, if that was the only way to get an insert for my roller.

Oh I know what you mean… the bottom is a big swing door.

And then you’d still have….

A roller with bulk storage on the bottom. 😆

You're thinking of grey.
greygray.jpg

Picked up another Dash 7 off FleaBay
Couldn't choose color, but at least got another translucent
which is great as I can see where everything is.

I love this thing! Use it everyday- dimensions are perfect for my use.
Little overlap on some bits, but until I can justify $$$ for individual ones,
they all have earned their place in the grip - especially the "custom" prybar :giggle:

Back on topic! Bought a cheap tool bag.

Cheap. I paid $16.99 before tax, now it's $14.99. 14" L x 6" W x 8" H. I just wanted something to hide a tire inflator compressor in so it wasn't as obvious to the thieving types. (I'll be taking a Sharpie-type marker to the yellow stuff, too. A black bag in a black cargo van interior, among some other clutter.)

I can't find a COO. Got to be China. (I recently bought a bicycle "rack trunk" with secret unfolding pannier bags for a friend, and that complex bit of sewing was made in Taiwan, yet another thing made on that small island.)

I stumbled across this the other day on the HJE website. It's like the Snap On roller cabinet of leather tool organizers.

Made in America, $451.90. You could buy a lot of 5 gallon buckets and bucket organizers...

noname oil plug removal tool

20260503_111247.jpg

I have something similar. At least for me, I am not sure I would buy it again. I seem to find ways to splash a little oil over the plug regardless and end up with about the same amount of clean up. But I am one of those people that find ways to make a mess regardless. You don't even want to know what happens to me with anti-seize (I use at lot since I live in the rust belt and keep my cars long).

For oil changes, I find that a good wide catch pan that is relatively smooth for wipe-down rag cleanup helps most in avoiding big messes. After draining, I carefully bring the basin over to a large storage container and pour in it with the aid a big funnel in the opening. The container goes to recycle when filled with enough oil changes. I drain the filter in the funnel and then metal recycle. Cleaning up the catch basin and funnel, by far, results in the most cleanup. I need gloves anyway doing it. So the magnetic plug holder does not make much overall difference for me saving the plug exterior from an oil splash. Maybe if I had a lift and could get a large funnel and the storage container directly under the oil drain plug, then a magnetic tool like this would be more handy and reduce the much smaller cleanup mess in that ideal case. But I have no lift and usually drain the oil with the car barely jacked up or just roll under it with no jacking using a light pad on the concrete slab (if enough clearance). That is not enough space for a direct funnel into storage container approach.

In recent years, I finally had the procedure above down well enough where I was rarely making a significant mess. THEN I decided to train my young sons to do oil changes etc. Ha! Don't ask about their iterations after me watching every step to "train" them and then having them do it on their own. Let's just say cleanups got much bigger for a while and their mom was not happy with the clothes washes :(

Well, that takes the fun right out of it, LOL...

(Avert your eyes from the mess on the wheel cylinder if you're at all as OCD I am about those things...)

I saw one of those (civilian version) the other day. Couldn't tell you if I've ever seen one outside of an amusement park before...

You can skip a step and avoid pouring and oopsies by getting a drain pan that is also a container. There are many sizes and options, this is just an example.*

Also, Fumoto drain valves make for a non-sploosh and predictable path of oil. If you get one with a ****** on it, you can put a hose on it and guide it straight into container if you're a real neatnik.

Depending on your oil filter, you can tap a punch or large nail into and let it drip out for a while/overnight before removing it, that reduces sploosh! drama.

Related to "I hate awkward pouring things into other things and spills and wobbly funnels and only having two hands", this is my antifreeze mixing bucket**:

* I just bought this very type at Advance Auto last summer when I was in a bind, out of town. I already have a drain pan/container I got at Wal-Mart which I really like, got it in the 90's, still better than many I see. No longer available. So now I own two. Here's my beef with the one in the picture above: that little vent hole with its flip cap? The flip cap won't stay shut. Hasn't caused me any problems, but it could, in theory.

** I'm not sure what those 33% and 66% annotations were about! I can say I'm doing 50/50 mixes.

I only recently learned that the Segway went out of production a few years ago (2020.) And my memory was refreshed that former coal miner Jimi Heselden, inventor of the Hesco barrier, bought the Segway company in 2009, then died in 2010 riding a Segway and falling off a cliff.

I tried one of the drain pans with a vent and cap long ago. One still had to wipe it down like the catch pan for storage. So it was kind of back to more or less the same clean up. Also, the one I bought allowed oil to seep and splash out the vent, the screw plug, and it's own drain spout. So I got exasperated and pitched it since the container was messy post clean up. Maybe mine was a bad quality choice or bad luck with a defect. But between those issues, I did not find it very helpful and went back to the catch pan and dump in a large storage container. I typically do two oil changes at once (to reduce clean up) a few times a year. So it is not like I am maintaining a fleet. In the fleet case, a lift with a positionable catch directly to storage likely makes much better sense for efficiency and keeping things clean and fast.

I like your idea on punching the filter to better drain used oil. I just drain my filters a little through the inlet by placing them in the catch funnel to my storage container with the inlet down, and then throw it in my metal recycle bin after it drips out. But I feel there is often too much residual oil to be kosher for putting the used filters in recycle and feel guilty for the excessive oil mixed in. Even repositioning the filter a few times in the drain out, they do not drip out well: likely due to the geometry of the opening and angle it is sitting. Maybe punching the top and draining into the punched hole placed in the funnel with the lowest point with a hole pointing down would improve drainage. I'll give that a try next time.

I like your mixing bucket. It makes good sense if doing a lot of antifreeze mixing. But In my case, antifreeze cycling/replacement does not come up a lot and I just get the ratios close to what I want mixing in a mostly empty antifreeze container. Antifreeze pours well enough to use with a small funnel. You probably need a lid on the mix bucket though to keep junk and animals out. I am not sure why, but animals seem to be attracted to drink antifreeze and it is lethal if they do.

Bahco Adjustables
Bahco.jpg

I use a very similar Bahco set and find they work well. Quality is on par with older USA brands and they open wide for the size (sometimes useful). A few Bahco models have reversible jaws with pipe wrench angle/teeth on the other side. That can be useful in light plumbing/pipe work but I would not throw away the dedicated pipe wrenches.

Lisle tap socket set, Snap-on 22mm oxygen sensor socket, Snap-on metric ignition wrench set with extra 7mm. Another small Snap-on slide hammer (I already had one, but it was missing the legs. This one is missing most of the attachments, but cost less than the two legs from Snap-on guy.
