Please understand that your description of "the loosen direction" is very misleading for someone visiting this thread in the future. There is only one correct direction for pipe tape application; that is to wind it clockwise around the male pipe thread when viewed from the end of the pipe being wrapped. Please see post #28 in this thread.
That was my whole purpose in describing it as the "loosen direction" lol.
Loosen direction is clockwise from the perspective of looking head on at the threads. The opposite end of the head of the bolt if we were talking about a bolt.
Loosen direction is counter clockwise from the perspective of looking head on at the knob or where the head of a bolt would be if we were talking about a bolt.

What???

"Loosen direction is clockwise from the perspective of looking head on at the threads."

You have this completely backwards. If you put a nut on a bolt, you turn it clockwise to tighten it and counter clockwise to loosen it. If you turn it around you would still turn the bolt head clockwise to tighten it and counter clockwise to loosen it. This is alway the case unless it is left hand threads. :headscrat

Huh? My bad. I didn't specify. From the perspective of the bolt turning, not a nut on the bolt. Do I have this backwards 🤔

I sketched in an eye to represent an observer, looking from that direction.
Bolt A = Looking head on at the head of the bolt
Bolt B = Looking head on at the threads of the bolt

To loosen bolt A turn it counterclockwise from the perspective of the observer shown in the picture.
If there was a nut on bolt A, to loosen it turn it clockwise from the perspective of the observer shown in the picture.

To loosen bolt B turn it clockwise from the perspective of the observer shown in the picture.
If there was a nut on bolt B, to loosen it turn counterclockwise from the perspective of the observer shown in the picture.

I think this is right, and just didn't specify what exactly I was turning and loosening (i.e., the bolt, or a nut on the bolt)?

I power wire brush any metal pipe thread in the direction of the threads that I can to burnish the surface of the metal threads. I have found that things assemble more smoothly with either sealer type.

So like a thread chaser?

To heck with clockwise and counterclockwise and left and right and which end if pipe you’re looking at.

Hold the tape in one hand. Fitting in other. Turn the fitting like you’re tightening it. Let it pick up the tape as fitting rotates.

Yes, screw the pipe onto the tape.
