This has been the Standard for wire holding for decades for Electronic techs. This one was made by Xacto, Others make them too:

I have one of those. A radio shack remnant
This is what I copied from Eric O...
I need to add a few pieces of heat shrink tubing on mine to the alligator jaws to protect the wire insulation from being pierced...

Chores are done. Now to get packed up to take off tomorrow for a nice Memorial Day weekend of camping--on a friend's remote property miles behind a locked gate.

Predictions of a very light tourist weekend have proven false. In particular, trucks towing trailers with OHVs are flooding into town. I'll play on the backroads next weekend when these yahoos have vacated.

Off subject, but how do you like the CRC Brakecleaner? I just started using it at work, seems ok, but prefer the CarQuest that I cant get here any longer. I tried a can of NAPA Macs, nasty, nasty stuff. Made my hands sting through nitrile gloves.
The old Red can of flammable CRC was the best but hard to find now, they non chlorinated, non flammable in the Green can and non flammable, chlorinated in the Red can, neither as good as the old flammable stuff.

Still prepping for tomorrow's short backcountry drive to a friend's "hunting lodge" in a remote canyon.

Playing with my new audio gear for video. I recently bought this kit:

55280822086_e0edc1973c_o.jpg

of wireless lavallier mics. Turns out, they work on everything I have that makes videos except the action camera I have mounted in the windshield. I've figured out I can use my phone (which ain't any good for anything else where I'm going) as a recorder for the mics and then just roughly sync the sound to the video. I only need to be exact with the sync if I'm speaking while facing the camera--something I'm unlikely to be doing.

Timm, give yourself some sort of "synch count" at the start on both devices and it should be pretty easy to hit.
I can have two independent sound tracks in my editing program--Davinci Resolve. I can have one recorded via the awful mic on the camera--and already synced to the video--and one via the wireless. Any good sound--like a clap--and I can then line up the two using the sound level graph and then delete the one recorded on-camera.

At least, I think it's that easy.

The flammable stuff with the “PowerJet” nozzle is ever so much fun when used as a flamethrower. Or so I was told… 😉

I don’t have any red cans but both of these are still labelled “very flammable”IMG_5815.jpeg

Half in the garage, half outside of the garage. I figured out where I'm going to mount my mini split. I put the template on the wall, made sure it was going to hit multiple studs and then drilled the pilot hole outside at a slight angle. Then I set up my EZ UP outside because it was starting to rain, but I needed to run 220v from my garage sub panel to a disconnect and I also wanted to add a 110v GFCI outside the garage near the disconnect. I was able to get both of them mounted and powered up.

An actuator bracket broke on a Lazy Boy power recliner, so I did what any man card holder would do. I used a chain hoist to get the base unit up onto a work table, removed the bracket for tig welding, and then used it again as a helping hand to hold the foot rest at an exact point to get a piece of the mechanism aligned during reassembly. It got used one more time to load the base onto the Carryall for the return trip back to the house. Disassembling and reassembling one of those mechanisms alone with all the pieces and linkages is akin to a monkey trying to screw a football on a wet tree limb. I did get a good supper as a show of appreciation for my efforts though.

Saw this Huffy Big Green Machine at a yard sale this afternoon, $10. The tire was flat and it had been left outside. I put a patch on the inner tube, lubed the bearings and adjusted the brake. Hit all the joints with PB Blaster. The seat adjustment fastener was frozen. Drilled it out, used a new fastener and two fender washers. My 9 and 5 year old grandkids will be here a lot over the summer. They have bikes here but this should be fun as well.

Grabbed a test light, wire strippers and a few connectors of various sizes so I could fix the lights on one of our work trailers today. Got to the job and immediately found the problem upon pulling back the rubber boot on the 7 pin adapter, the ground had slipped it’s screw connection. Fifteen seconds with a screwdriver to reattach the ground and check the rest of the wires and we’re in business.

Pulled the boat out, rinse, simple green, scrubbed, rinsed, squeegeed the floor clean. The boat trailer fender project has made quite the mess, Still waiting on the carpet to get delivered.

Today, I'm making templates for all the rubber pieces to send to Dura Deck Marine for replacement pieces out of their Eva foam product.

Tinkered with the Mustang some more yesterday. Installed the new hood bumpers & drilled the 2 starter holes in the hood for the hood pins. Got a larger drill bit to expand the holes & the battery died in the cordless drill. Plugged in the charger & let the battery charge. Went inside to have lunch & help my wife make chili.

I have to be fair and say that my mechanical Lazy Boy recliners through the years have been fine. My wife’s power recliner gets treated a bit unfairly because of a 65 lb dog that thinks the foot board makes a fine lookout spot to be near his mama, and launches up there if given the chance. She likes it, he likes it, I’m the retired maintenance machinist here, so I fix broken chairs and she cooks.😉

Sat and de-sweated after putting down fertilizer front and back this morning. Figured 9am was too early and too cold out for a beer. Settled for bottled water and some FM.

When younger I played competitive softball and was always surprised that some guys would start drinking that early. I don’t recall that any of my teammates did but it was not uncommon in the big tournaments. It really surprised me that I also saw that in some of the tournaments which were qualifiers to go to state or the nationals. We played a lot and won state a couple of times and when to the nationals once (we got smoked) and we reserved our beer drinking until the end of the day.

Just a lazy day today. Replaced the brakes in the front. Replaced all of the lines hard and soft. Still waiting on my rear shoes and drums for the rear to come in. Got the fuel system hooked up. Only thing I'm waiting on is the carb spacer gaskets and I can mount the carb. Installed the intake and thermostat housing. Took the carb apart to check the condition of the insides. Looks spotless. Got the distributor back in and rough timed. Got the key so it now works the starter. Checked for spark. Looks like I've got the dual point set pretty good. We'll see. I changed the cheap plastic lines for the oil pressure gauge to copper lines. If you barely moved the plastic ones they just snapped. I installed a T fitting so I have a gauge and the idiot light for extra insurance. I ran a drill drive to the oil pump and built pressure a few times. Then I cranked the engine over. Just with the starter I'm getting 30PSI! That tells me that my bearing clearances should be pretty good. My parts should be here tomorrow except for the drums. Not planning on driving it tomorrow anyway... but it would have been fun! I hope tomorrow to hear it run for the first time.

Hung up some new “no fire” bottles.

IMG_9361.jpeg

Now trying to figure out how to get rid of the old ones. Garbage says they’re hazmat. Hazmat collection says they don’t take fire extinguishers.

You might check with the fire station. Or, a local fire extinguisher company.

Here, in LA County, we have several HHW (Household Hazardous Waste) drop-off points that will take them. Surprised yours won't.

Another option if gauges show good is to curb them with a "free" sign; someone else's problem.

Spray them into the woods, knock the head off with an axe or sledge, then puncture them with a pickaxe. Then you can drop them at the recycler's.
