Well water stink

I grew up in the country, and we had a sulfur well also. After taking a shower it smelled like the dog did his outdoors business in the bathroom. To make matters worse, my father was a well driller and he made 9 attempts to get past the sulfur water. One well was over 1500' and still nasty.
My brother had same issue.

A filter system fixed it.

Just screw the empty canister back on and let it run.

I find it very odd that a carbon filter was "creating" the stink
Well, all three were creating the stink. It's been a week and the water smells like nothing when poured halfway into a glass. What I don't get is why the smelly cartridges lost their odor within the half hour or so they were left out in the shower to drain.

Well, all three were creating the stink.

I think the filters were simply accumulating whatever is causing the stink.

I assume when "they" did the water test it was close to the source?

You should find I out the details of that test, and repeat similar in your house

Take a close look at what the filter material is made of also. I have a well and I had the same problem. Turns out the filter material was cellulose and the organic material was breaking down which caused the stink. Says it right on the package - recommended for chlorinated water supplies.

Switched to a polyester filter element and I haven't had a problem since. Picture attached.

Try polyester (non-organic) filters and report back.

In the only town in Pennsylvania, Bloomsburg.
I have a huge three cartridge filtration system (Manor) under the house. (3' encapsulated crawlspace) I replaced the "citrus softener" filter cartridge with a second carbon filter but no luck
The filters shown are not huge, for a well with issues they are tiny. As to why the odor disappears with the filters remove, the bacteria are being caught by the filter element and continue to grow. To stop this you need a large iron pre-filter, then a large capacity UV lamp to kill the iron bacteria, then another smaller micron filer to catch the remaining dead bacteria , then a large charcoal filter as in large tanks; Why use an iron pre-filter before the UV lamps?, because large iron particles will have bacteria within or shield bacteria from the UV light, also large particles shield harmful bacteria.
Personally I would not want to pay for the system for the community as it would be very costly, along with ridiculous maintenance cost. DIY will need large filters even for one household. damn expensive but your not going to get off light if you can not live with the odor.

Pe-fiilter filter for iron......, this will provide filtering for a year without filter cleaning.

Aeration system.....

A limited aeration unit....

This is a very good but very expensive aeration unit......

after- filter......with a low micron filter

If the well casing is plastic you could get away with a "down the well" aeration system. If steel casing, the added oxygen will destroy your casing via rust.

Activated charcoal filters (2)........... to remove any remaining gases

My zero filter smells like dog **** glands when it's time to change it.

It's like a fishy, dirty socks and musty blend.
