Second coat of clear on my new shelf. Was considering a third, but two should be enough.

Camry headlights are all scratched up. I tried one of those polishing kits last year, didn’t accomplish much. So off with the old, on with the new.

IMG_9376.jpegIMG_9377.jpegIMG_9379.jpeg

Did a driveway garage door and tape measure alignment, seems ok.

Some Cardboard Aided Design. Need a wrench holder for some double box ends.

IMG_9382.jpegIMG_9383.jpegIMG_9384.jpeg

I didn’t want to get anything in the air, while the clear is drying on the shelf. I’ll cut these tomorrow, probably.

Wetsanding and clear coat should do the trick. You can just polish them but it won’t last because the UV protective layer is gone, hence the need for clear coat.

Front wheel bearing on the wife’s Subaru Outback. Changed the snow tires Tuesday, three out of four were really ugly, cupped on the edges, flat spots, and general destruction. They made so much noise that it covered anything else. While doing this I found some play in one front wheel. With the quiet summer tires on, I could hear the bearing, not really grinding, but noisy.

While disassembling the wheel I also found uneven wear on one brake pad, partially stuck pins. On the other side there is a ripped boot on the CV axle. That will be today’s job. Of course it couldn’t be on the side that I was taking apart anyway.

Which model Cayman do you have? I need to do this to my 17 718 but can’t get the headliner out of the car. I know it is supposed to fit out the passenger side but no matter which way I turn it, it will not come out without bending. I have watched the online version of it being done on a 981, but I think the 982 is slightly different.
They put it in the car it has to come out of the car.......

As you probably know, Porsche is pretty good at recycling parts and they will use some parts forward on new models...
As an example, if you look up the door seal gasket "Weather-Strip On Body 981-537-076-06", it's used on 2014 thru 2024 Caymans...
Based on this part, I'd say your door opening is the same as mine... In the words of Eric O of South Main Auto...
"If I can do it, You can do it"
Hope this helps...

I ordered 2 speedy sleeves, 3 oil seals and 2 gaskets for the gear box but they won't be here for few more days.
So I had the deck sandblasted and then brushed on primer and 2 coats of paint. The tail wheel needs some tweaking yet but it bolts on so I can put it back on without ruining my new paint.
It will get beat up again so the paint is mostly just for rust prevention.
I'm still waiting on the new gaskets for the gear box. Meanwhile I'm making some other repairs.
These hanging chains help to keep rocks and stuff from getting thrown out from underneath the mower. The left side in the photo had been torn off and was completely missing.
So I bought some chain and a piece of rod and made a new one. It'll make the mower a little safer.

Those mowers take a beating. Yours is looking great.

Well I did Get the light bulb changing tool from the garage. One of the cfls in the kitchen died a while back. I decided to convert all to LEDs. The Felt bulbs have slide switch at the base that allow selecting one of 5 temperature settings or changing temp via the light switch. I set them for Daylight. If that's too bright, I'll replace a switch with a dimmer one. I looked quickly at Lutron switches and one appeared to allow installing as either a 1 way or 3 way. Maybe I read it wrong because I didn't take it off the hanger to look closely, but that would be a way to cut down on inventory and raise prices. Will technology never cease to amaze me? But then I was born a year before the Pearl Harbor attack.

If you have any women folk in the household, I'll just about guarantee they hate the daylight white balance. Better off trying warm white.

All the lights in the shop and brewery are daylight--5,000K. I find it easier on my eyes and the brewers agree. All the lights in our public areas are warm white--3-3,500K. I find it pleases the gals.

I guess we're exceptions. Both Judy and I like bright lights. 99% of our lights are the 4500-5500K units.

BH No problem, unfortunately my wife passed away almost 5 years ago. I'm still a bit mad at her because she was 10 years younger and was supposed to take care of me when I became a doddering old fool.
My condolences.

While I was down at my buddy's lodge last weekend, I needed to split some firewood. I grabbed his axe out of the woodshed and...

55300271089_4b4a309662_o.jpg

Yep. I didn't even give it a swing--just pulled the head off with my hand.

There was no wood wedge and just a single metal wedge driven sideways and DEEP.

55300438645_8aa34bb2fa_o.jpg

I managed to get a pair of needle-nose pliers on it and with some worrying and wiggling and cursing,

55300182403_3a9be3227a_o.jpg

I finally got it out. Doesn't every ranch owner know that the proper way to anchor the head of a tool is to use a pound or two of framing nails?

Now to find something to consolidate the wood of the handle--it's in pretty good shape other than the fitting end.

Let's see what we've got:

55299125512_179c75b248_o.jpg

55300027701_07436b8bf3_o.jpg

Hmm... it does say "tighten loose tool handles permanently".

Unfortunately, it's probably decades old, and the resin has crystalized in the tubes. Rejected and filed in the circular file.

How about this?

55300182393_d6784b5644_o.jpg

Also decades old, but if it's good enough for fishing boxes, it's good enough for me!

That one worked--I just cut the ends off the tubes as I need all of it. I mixed it up in a disposable ramakin from the kitchen and slathered the inside of the eye (after cleaning the rust out with some Mill roses) and the end of the head, including inside the slot for the wooden wedge, then rammed the head back on--getting plenty of epoxy on my hands--and hammered the new wooden wedge home:

55300182388_e06200b0e5_o.jpg

Hammering the wedge in forced epoxy into every crack and gap of the handle.

Once that sets in an hour or so, I'll trim the end, sand the handle and give it a good soak in thinned BLO, then return it to the owner. I may give the top of the handle a wire wrap where it's splintered, but don't want to get too carried away as it'll just get treated like **** again.

Cut the slots out. Halfway through the first one, the power switch on my stand crapped out. Had to finish with the saw plugged in directly to the power strip.

IMG_9386.jpeg

Cleaned up the cuts with files and sandpaper.

IMG_9388.jpeg

Removed the switch box / outlet box / power cord.

IMG_9385.jpeg

Test fit. Seems to work.

IMG_9390.jpeg

Rattle can paint to finish.

IMG_9393.jpeg

Disassembled the switch.

IMG_9391.jpeg

Contacts were dirty. Contact file cleaned them up.

IMG_9394.jpeg

Reassembled, and the magnet wouldn’t hold. Disassembled again. Cleaned up the magnet face. Reassembled again. Back in service.

Trimming the excess from the axe handle:

55300604079_9e965b554c_o.jpg

Good thing I got a really good deal on a six-pack of those saw blades.... It seemed like the right tool at the time.

Ready for sanding and something to deal with the splintery bits:

55300515983_b437520337_o.jpg

I planned on sanding it outside. Then my phone buzzed with an alert to expect potential sudden, violent death from above in the form of extreme thunderstorms and tornados. I looked outside:

55299455547_83fc95af84_o.jpg

No work outside this evening. The thunderstorm was pretty mild here, but three miles away there were 1"+ hailstones and a buddy claims he saw twin tornados in the distance--but no pic, so it didn't happen, right?

Are shipping containers good tornado shelters?

Over the past week I started working on installing the windows in the Mustang. I am converting the glue in windows of my 69 Mustang to the bolt in type of the 70 Mustang. I had bought the glass & the attaching hardware used years ago. I got the l/s glass in & mostly adjusted. I also have the rear quarter windows laid out on my woodshop assembly table for assembly. I have the new weatherstrips installed on the stainless-steel trim ready to go on to the glass. I installed the driver's side door key lock & the trunk lock. I finished up installing the hood pins & installed & adjusted the hood latch. Ordered some parts.

I haven't updated in a while... been a bit busy.

Got to spend some time in the shop yesterday. Tossed an eGPU on an oculink card into one of the servers in the rack to test out adding GPU for AI inference. Took one of my batch processes from over 60 minutes down to 10-15. This setup was just a temporary proof of concept, which means I'll probably never fix it... except this GPU is the one out of my gaming rig, so I kinda need to put it back. Anyways, the POC was a success, so time to shop for an actual GPU to use. Currently leaning towards a 5060ti 16G. It'll feel weird putting the better GPU on the server and leaving the older card on the desktop, but I need the higher RAM for the larger models.

This belongs in the "I have no idea" section. Holy foreign language.

I'm disappointed in you.

Mount these at all 4 corners. Might be handy when camping as well.

1779702620566.png
I have a bunch from Amazon, last one I got for the camper is my favorite. USB A and USB C as well an on off button. I will be switchin out the rest to those ones.
IMG_0404.jpeg Started finishing up the Mustang that I have been helping on. Put motor and trans in together, headers bolted up. Nice putting a motor in that has been run and somewhat tuned.
Extremely jealous, I so want a 5.0 for Friday night drags, limit is 28x10.5. No limit on power as I would have it bored and stroked to 427 with a moderate cam and a NOS bottle in the back.

Mines a 2016 981S...
I was able to rotate 360 degrees while still in the cabin... I settled with only doing 180 degrees...
The seats need to be pushed all the way forward and fully reclined... The steering wheel needs to be pushed all the way forward and down...
Work the headliner above the steering wheel and with the passenger door open, angle the headboard towards the ground and out...
Like this...
IMG_5550.jpg

Then towards the ground, it gets under the door bottom and out...
IMG_5551.jpg

You can see there is still a little extra space...
I will have to try it again in a few weeks. I had the seats flat and the steering wheel down. I know I rotated it in different direction trying to get it out. In your top picture, when I positioned it that way I was still about 2” behind the side window. The only video I have seen of one coming out of a 718 shows the guy bending it to clear the side window. I agree it should be the same since the models share so much. I have the material and the glue, just need to find the time.

I've been hanging axes, hammers, etc, since high school. I just thought I'd found a new tool to make it easier--with the usual results.

This is the first time I can recall I've used epoxy to reuse a handle. I only did so because this axe has a rough life, being the wood-splitting axe for a rental hunting lodge. That's also why I won't be putting an edge on it--it's only purpose is splitting.

I probably should have grabbed a length of water pipe and made it match his framing hammer:
