To be honest, now you have also made me think why do I have this rule and what do I mean by challenge.

The rule is not just based on financial considerations. It is also not just in the context of projects etc. For me, it is more so about sense of balance and concept of proportionality and mismatch in life. The spoiler/wing on a Porsche 911 Turbo S looks natural and projects a sense of belonging! How does the same wing look on a Toyota Corolla? To me it looks stupid!

The rule is also about the challenge. What is challenge and sense of personal accomplishment in just throwing money at some project (even if one can very easily afford to do so) ? My personal enjoyment from working on a project is primarily driven by overcoming a challenge (regardless of the fact that what is a challenge for me might be a joke for some else to overcome)!

Now, I will get off my soapbox and stop writing drivel! Sorry for wasting your time😀 .
That all makes sense ! I think everyone has their own unique approach to projects. For example , when I work on my cars I allow myself to make up the difference in what I saved doing it myself and what it would have cost otherwise, in new ( or new to me) tools especially if it makes whatever repair easier.
Sorry for the thread drift Rian !
@ Rian : do you still do any woodturning ? I tried it with a mate's lathe the other day and I found it a heck of a lot of fun, I suspect a new rabbit hole for me :)

Great video! Thank you.

This is what I am talking about, making do with very little resources and repurposing requires a lot more creatively as well as skill. I am sure you will make these parts work.

Earlier I took the key, that worked perfectly previously out the ignition to check what battery goes in it.

Then went back to try starting it…..

Key would not budge in the ignition.

Steering wheel locked, I tried wriggling it, wiggling it, wriggling the steering wheel, taking the tension off it etc.
Pulling the key gently out and trying to make it work.

Tried all three keys

All failed.

Ideas, advice, prayers ??

Thank you.

Apparently, the VAG cars of a certain age are notorious for a very specific, common mechanical fault where the steering lock housing drops slightly or jams, completely trapping the ignition barrel.

If your Skoda is an automatic (DSG), there is a physical cable running from the gear stick to the ignition barrel. If it doesn't register exactly in Park, the ignition lock will not release.

Put your foot hard on the brake pedal.Grab the gear selector, press the button, and aggressively shove it forward into Park (P). Even if it looks like it's in Park, give it a firm push forward.

Alternatively, cycle it down to Neutral and slam it back up into Park, then try the key.

Thank you for the research and feedback.

This is a 1999 manual 1.9 diesel model.

Super basic and as close to analog as possible.

Bank holiday or May public holiday weekend.

Mate John came around on Friday on his full power Yamaha V-Max for a visit and to collect some parcels he had delivered here.

Yesterday I was going to start prepping the rear of the van for impending welding but various things happened and by 1.00pm John came around again. Collection of parcels, bringing back some tools and for a couple of Pepsi Max’s

By 2.00pm we were going to the garage to look at stuff in this 28’C or 80’F weather because welding would ****.

So we made a new Airfilter unit for the engine because it doesn’t have one. Obviously lost, stolen, “whatever” at the body shop it sat in for all these years.

I had found some sections of various plastic tubes and ductwork at Ross’ yard.

So a bit of measuring done and some fabrication and you van watch the video.

Ohh, and subscribe please.

A few pics for the zero concentration gang.

With Spartacus on my name, the ownership OCD heebyjeebies kicked in.

So looking at 10 years worth of dirt, dust and grime on top of having been a painter and decorator commercial work van, the interior certainly bore the hallmarks of a “Work van”

In total I actually cleaned it three or four times.

First time: unpacking parts, junk and trash from inside.
Second time vacuum cleaner and brush
Third time wet rag, vacuum, rain.
Fourth time removing seats, shop vac, wet wash n brush with 1 liter of Elbow Grease, polish and much washing and wiping.
Also spent time removing hardened masking tape and residue from fenders and windows and rubbers.

I know it will probably get dusty and dirty again, but dismantling the interior allowed me a full, close inspection of the cab and floors.

They are actually in really good, like new for a 27 year old commercial vehicle, condition. Compare this with the rusted out parts, it almost seems like it’s two different vehicles.

Video.

There has been even more work to do in and around the cab too.

Including a wet wash for the seats which are in incredibly good condition as well.

All the fabric being completely intact.

I am getting to like it a bit more now that I can see the paint for the dirt.

Great job, Rian! The front looks like a million bucks!

May be instead of Spartacus, you should name the Skoda’s front half, Jekyll and the back of half, Hyde. In fact in the Czech language, Hyde is spelled Hide as in Hide the rust😀 !

😂😂😂😂

Great job cleaning the inside mate.

Thank you.

That interior looks a whole lot better!

I now want to be in there

I get that.

But he may have more up his cloak.

Good job on the cleanup, looks 100% better!

Thank you.

I do like cleaning stuff.

Amazed at how it changed at every point in the four steps.

Yesterday I was busy with some random tasks and photographing the mini chopper to et it advertised when Pedro came down to the garden with a knackered polystyrene cooler box and roll of ductape.

Could I help him fix it.

So with Google Translate and much sign language I coaxed him down to the garage. I knew that I had a powered cooler box and a traditional one.

So I offered them both to him.

He chose the traditional one. For his truck during summer, to keep his food and drinks cool.

So I sent him away to siesta

Then I grabbed some masking tape and paint cans 🎨 plus my old set of stencils. And masked and painted the lid.

Then I thought a little metal tag with his name was cool too. I always do too much ehhh.

Pedro was super chuffed yes.

If there is such a thing as a six-star accommodation, that would be your house.Your renters are a lucky bunch.

That cooler for sure will be the coolest cooler at Pedro’s workplace.

I am sure

A really good friend would also fill it with his favorite beverage and a bag of ice...just sayin' 🤣

Coke Zero

Most of you know my friend Darren with the engineering shop through references to his junk steel skip that he allows me to raid from time to time.
He has also done me many favours with some of the machines in there over the years, hydraulic presses, laser cutting table and CNC machines.
This week he is out in his Ford Pop hotrod on the Isle of Wight with the NSRA.
Yesterday I got a message from him, asking me to play around with some designs for his one truck. Big Bright Orange Dodge.

He was very much taken with my transformation on the Oldsmobile paint that I had done recently

So he asked me to get some lowrider inspired designs onto his Dodge. He sent some pictures of the truck.

Another online friend and Artist you guys know Bryan also did some awesome designs.

I have a favourite. But I was really impressed with how the Oldsmobile paint job translated onto the truck.

Result……..…

ok, so I've thought about this whilst staring out across the airfield.............
we have a Lightning parked up on the far side, last one of seven, that's painted with different markings on each side so green one side and orange the other  although what the crossover in the middle will look like is any bodies guess

no this is not a serious proposition

Did I mention this?

Shed find. Or something like that. Seems it was bought by an eager father, banned by over protective mother. Tossed in a shed for years I guess.
House move and some horse trading got it into my garage
I told my buddy John that I would put it on Marketplace and forums for him.
Untested, apparently never actually ridden.
I am sure the battery is long since gone flat. Fuel is probably a two stroke mix, again long since evaporated
Front disc brake, handlebars fold down for transportation

Not much else to say about it.

Selling as “Shed find project” and non running project.

These seem to make decent money out there.
Messenger please if you’re interested in buying it at the advertised price of £150.00 or tell me what you need to pay for it??

Trade?? Maybe some pretty 4x100 VW steels

Collecting at St Mary Hoo area near Rochester.

Video:

One being ridden.

You’d be surprised at how useful these things can be

I used to have this pink one for campground transport.

Battery Electric.

And absolutely shockingly good at getting around on

This one according to “others” could get an MSVA

Not something I would want.

But get it running and in or on the back of a camper, van, pickup, EV 😉 and you’ll be away.

I used to put this scooter inside the teardrop trailer.
