Did another day of prep work, found several more spots that needed attention. Then I remembered that it was the third Saturday and I haven't gone to lodge in Georgia for a while, so I hit the shower and got ready. I have an old friend that shows up at about 4:00 (very early) so I got there about an hour early and we had a good talk.
20260517_072503.jpg
I didnt realized that the new Grand Master was going to be there for a visit, he and I had a good conversation, and I bought the last knife that he had. Each Grand Master in Georgia has knifes and coins made to sell and I belive the profit goes to there orphanage in Macon Georgia. He also presented the lodge with a framed picture depicting the 250th birthday of our country and the 240th year of Masonry in Georgia. In 1786 Masonry was governed by the Grand Lodge of England, that year they dissolved English rule, the Sitting Grand Master stepped down and the Grand Lodge of George was formed. For you history buffs!
I need more coffee, then Im headed back to the shop!

Played hookie yesterday, did a lot of shotgun riding with Pat.
We found treasures we couldnt live without.
then today reality came back, I mowed the yard, cleaned up some things in the yard, fixed a yard light.
Then I went to the shop!

Got the truck painted on Monday, it about killed me, somewhere I got old and should not be painting whole vehicles in one bite!
20260520_181436.jpg
Its got a bit of orange peel here and there, in 30 days it gets wet sanded and buffed so it will be ok til then.
20260520_181411.jpg
I got it unmasked and started Reassembling everything. Knox is out of school for the summer so he is supposed to be here at 8:00 in the morning to help clean parts and help me when I need it.
20260520_181315.jpg
I made an adaptor for his air cleaner, he will get to clean the rest of the engine bay.

I have been thrashing away on the truck!
20260524_161116.jpg
We almost finished today.
20260524_163007.jpg
Junior and Knox did some cleaning after we installed the bed cover.
20260524_163506.jpg
Everything was going well until we got to the grill, its a generic unit from Amazon. Initially it looked like it was going to be plug and play, but no Bueno! I started fitting it, and there are no mounting brackets on the sides or the bottom. I started cutting a piece of plastic and wound up burning three fingers, so I called it quits for the day. Tomorrow were having a friends and family BBQ, so Im not sure if Ill get to work on it tomorrow. We'll see!
20260523_131653.jpg
I did test fit the grill in my 93 Z71,
The add said it would not fit a 93, but it fit the 93 as well as it fit Knox's 95, when I make brackets for his truck, Ill make a set for mine and be ahead of the game.

I had to make some brackets to mount the grill in Knox's truck, the grill came from Amazon/ China, and its completely wrong, the top mounting bolts are correct, the bottom mounting bolts are wrong and the grill is one inch taller than the stock grill, the bumper filler wont fit. Its a mess, he already bought it and did a modification so it cant go back.
Ill figure out something.

On a brighter note!

I started on this old girl today.
20260528_125729.jpg
I gave it a bath.
20260528_125841.jpg
I pressure washed the motor and chassis, there was a **** ton of mud under it.
20260528_125802.jpg
After I washed it I started soaking the seat and seat belt bolts with PBlaster.
20260528_125804.jpg
The po changed the seat, this pos is actually in the bed already, Im pulling the carpet tomorrow so I can shampoo it. While its drying Im going to do a tune up.Messenger_creation_30B7E9CD-321A-418C-8833-EE632D85763B.jpeg
Uncle Willie hooked me up with an excellent interior last year, I've just been waiting for the right time.

It started life as a service truck at Roadtec, I believe they build and service road paving equipment around Chattanooga! This hole is where they had a hitch for a gooseneck trailer, this is a half ton truck! Wow! Anyway it went home about 4:00 this afternoon. Knox will celebrate his 16th birthday on June 6th!It was a hustle but it is done in time for his birthday.
Knox has applied for an apprenticeship with the IBEW, and was accepted. He will get a part-time job in the next week to earn spending money, he plans on buying new bumpers and some speakers!

Fantastic!

Good of him to learn a solid trade. Electricians are worth every penny.

I hope he appreciates the time and effort you spent on his truck.

Knox is a great kid, he was delt a bad hand, both of the parents are drug addicts, a judge gave all three kids to Junior, the Grandpa. He has the whole family, they attend church and live right. He is definitely worth the investment in time, he will actually come to my house and help me do lawn maintenance, or what ever I need him to do, that is rare with kids today.

He sent me another Pic when he got home, they had purchased the amber side marker bulbs, but they were the wrong size, they stopped at walmart and got the correct ones. I dont know if I mentioned that we sprayed the truck with Rustoleum paint, it was a money decision, full disclosure! Lol.
Thank all of you for the positive feedback on this project.
On to the next one.

No, I never use clear coat.
I have paint jobs over 12 years old, that still look new.
I've seen guys spray clear over it and it all wrinkles.
We went with this for price, he's 16, and I dont care how hard he tries there will be accidents with his paint, I can strip a fender and repainted it in a day.

Nice. I’ve seen a few videos of guys using rust oleum and the type of clear was always the question. I was just curious if you’d found one that worked, but clearly(pun intended) you haven’t. The hardener was an issue too, but there seems to be a few to pick from.

I can tell by the floor pans and rocker panels that that truck was never in Indiana in the winters  ❄️

Can't wait to see what you do with this one

Roger, most guys that use a clear coat use the Y2K clear, its definatly the most popular. I buy a pint can of hardner from tractor supply, cant even remember the name but its a red can. It gives you about 12 hours to use the paint. Typically I pour a gallon of paint and the hardner into a mixing bucket and start adding acetone until it gets to a point I like, probably 3/4 of a gallon, it takes even more when its hot. I got some orange peel on Knox's truck, but it was my fault, I was having a bad day and should have walked away, but didnt.

This is the best shot I got of the gloss, it dose lay out like old school single stage enamel, like duluxe, or centari.
The truck Im doing now, I will use Transtar paint with Motor city clear.
I plan on letting Pat keep this one.
20260528_125736.jpg
Its a 93 Z71, it will get a 6" lift and a bunch of other stuff. So it will get a better quality paint job.

Tony, it is really a clean truck, the bottom side of the floor is still shiny white paint, definatly not a northern truck. The plan originally was to clean it up and flip it with a couple other trucks, to have enough cash to buy a square body, but She fell in love with it. She sold her jeep because I couldn't get in and out of it.
20190805_150122.jpg
But I can handle getting in and out of the trucks! I will probably need a set of Amp Research running boards, after the lift kit gets installed! But thats ok to.

Well! I started out to work on the cabin this morning!
20260604_094446.jpg
Then I noticed this cedar chest sitting on my back porch, Kayla's other grandmother gave it to her, and she wants to put it in her bedroom.
20260604_104644.jpg
The thing is a total pos, the feet are falling off, and someone pried it open and broke the lid.
20260604_094451.jpg
It has about three coats of clear coat brushed onto it.
20260604_100925.jpg

So I got out the scrapers and went to work.
20260604_094502.jpg
Its a very soft finish, it scrapes off easily. The feet were attached with nails, so I drilled holes next to the nails and installed 3" deck screws, now they are tight, I glued the lid back together, and filled some gouges and holes with plastic filler. Its completely stripped and filled, now its drying in the shop. Tomorrow Ill final sand, stain, and spray a clear coat on it, then hopfully get back to the cabin.
