That bush is blooming like crazy. Guess you might have to whack it back about 2ft all around and 4ft on top to get it back to the size they said it would stay. Looks good though.

What brand/model of mower and what brand of high lift blade? Just dove into my first zero turn. First mowing was on Easter. Still learning the ins & outs.

My mower is nothing fancy. It great but not the most expensive on the market. I have a Hustler Raptor XD with 54" deck. It is about at its limits for what I need it for. I looked at commercial units, and I bought it from a Hustler dealer, but they sell my same unit at some of the big box stores. This is a higher end residential mower, and it works great. We have a local dealer and he sold me on this unit and not the commercial one. They do all of my major maintenance.

Mine is 8 years old, so its not this one, but this is the current model.

The blades I bought from Ballard.

Thanks! I just bought the Hustler Raptor XL in 42".
I'll be pleased if I get 8+ years out of this one. Love it so far.

We have a hustler dealer in town and almost all of my friends have one and we all love them. I bought mine off of a recommendation from one of those friends. I used to mow with a hand me down John Deere riding mower and the hustler has such a better cut. It really shows on my tall fescue.

I had the honor and pleasure to meet Chris face to face last night at the high school softball game. My son's baseball team was playing on the next door BB field while the crosstown rival, Chris's daughter's team was beating the home softball team with a final score of 7-2. Congrats to the first base coach!
Fun putting a face to a name, especially in a small town where so many know each other. Ends up, my wife went to high school with Chris.

Good to meet you!

Did your girls win?
SF baseball beat NW 1-0 with a one hit SO.
So glad the rivalry is alive and well. My wife walked around the stands and knew half the crowd, like homecoming.

Nope, season split. It was not quite the game as the night before. Our best pitcher didnt have her stuff last night and SF jumped on us. We had some chances, but too little too late.

Your game sounded like a good one.

I know you are all getting tired of the yard shots, but I took this at dusk Friday night after i finished mowing. These new blades really let the stripes show.

IMG_2613.JPEG

Also, it was Masters weekend so that means my annual Master's tournament at my buddies house. I actually finished 5th this year, with my highest score ever. Its a bullseye scoring system, where the rings are 1, 2, and 3 points with the highest points being closer to the flag. This year they added a 5 point score if you got it in the Pink circle that was about a foot around the pin. I was close, but no one got a 5 pointer.

IMG_2618.JPEGIMG_2622.JPEGIMG_2620.JPEG

We played the 9 hole layout 2 times stopping to putt between holes 7 and 8 to earn more points.

IMG_2621.JPEG

After the official 18 holes we played some blind draw high score rounds for more fun. I think I played 36 "holes" officially, then we did some closest to the flag games and had an absolute blast. I think for the day I had about 35k steps according to my Garmin watch.

After golf we hung out and played ******** all evening. There may have been some betting going on as well as plenty of drinks flowing.

Lawn looks great! Keep the pics rolling. I just got the Ballard blades and need to get them installed. What do you use to lift your mower?
Kind of liking the Harbor Freight lift from Fischer.

I just use a standard auto floor jack and lift just under the front crossmember. I put a jack stand under that, with a couple of 2x4s just to hold it in case it slips off the jack. I am able to clean under the deck and just enough room to get my impact under the deck with a shallow socket.

Thanks much! I have a buddy out in your neck of the woods. Knows Pittsboro well. He trains the Army out there. Lives by Lake Tillery.
The Ballard blade tip was huge. Bought the "Silver" version. Then they sent me a coupon (TAXDAY) for 20% off. So I ordered the Gold version for comparison. Either way I have plenty of blades and won't have to sharpen until out of season. Thanks again!

Is he part of Robin Sage? They do ton of Spec Ops and other training around us and near Jordan Lake.

I like the Ballard blades so far. Who knows how long they will last before they need to be sharpened. I got the Golds based on that same coupon. Well, it was a 20% coupon that they were running.

Busy weekend, but got some stuff done. First truck load of mulch put out. Played in a golf tournament Saturday and spent the evening with friends so that was about it for yard stuff.

IMG_2624.JPEG

Cool Sunday so I spent most of that day in the shop. Got a few things Im working on, but not photo worthy, yet. I did swap out the head unit in the 4Runner. My daughter asked me if I would get her a new radio. I told her no. She had been researching radios for her car and had found the Hamilton site. I had seen them and done some research, but told her that we had too much going on to spend $600 for a new head unit. She said she would buy it. She has a job and works some evenings and most weekends at a local tap room/restaurant. I told her if she wanted it she could buy it and I would put it in. I didnt think she would do it, but later that night, she had picked out what she wanted and I did some follow up research, to see what the install would entail, and she pulled the trigger.

Here is a shot of her 10 year old head unit looks like from the factory.

IMG_2629.JPEG

This kit replaces the unit and the surrounding trim. Its all one piece. You have to transfer the AC Vents and the hazard switch.

IMG_2630.JPEG

Fitment check.

IMG_2631.JPEG

Power check.

IMG_2633.JPEG

All buttoned up. Its a pretty cool set up. Its basically a tablet. She just wanted Car Play, since she hasnt had that in 2 years since we bought this 4Runner. I can add a sim card and purchase a plan from a mobile carrier and it would run independently, just like an Ipad, but with her Iphone, I didnt think that was necessary. It also has a few more features, that I did not install, just because, for this set up it wasnt needed.

She really likes it so far, we just have to dial in the EQ for the best sound.

I had seen them on 4Runner forums, but had not done a ton of research. Then you sent me that link regarding my Lexus so I spent some more time then. A few weeks ago, my daughter saw something on Instagram or TicTok and I told her that I liked those and thats when she decided she wanted one. She was iffy about never hearing about them, but once I told her I had done some research she was determined to get one. The quality is top notch.

Also, I forgot to mention that installation took about 2 hours, but 30 minutes of that was watching the youtube installation video, just to figure out the purpose of 2 of the factory wires that did not have an aftermarket connection. Also, I spent probably another 30 minutes trying to find a spot to mount the Wireless carplay antenna. My only complaint is the wireless antenna cord is too short. You can not realistically mount it anywhere and be able to then keep it plugged into the back of the unit. For now, its just loose in behind the new head unit. That is the only thing I have heartburn over.

I bet I could do it again in less than an hour. It took more time transferring the air vents from the factory piece to the Hamilton trim piece than it did actually connecting everything. There was zero splicing or crimping. No wiring is needed. It is 100% plug and play.

That Hamilton unit looks nice. I like it when some of these companies are out there making actual OEM like faceplates for these units. Teyes is another good company doing that. Might look into Hamilton for the IS350.

I was actually surprised at how good quality everything is. The harness was great, just a little clunky. My harness was built for all 4Runners from 09-19. It had plugs specifically for 09-13 and another set 14-19, all on the same harness. It was fairly easy to work around, but now there is a lot of unused "litter" behind the face. That and the short wireless carplay antenna are my only complaints. The daughter loves it so far. She's happy to have Car Play back. And Wireless is an upgrade.

I was looking at the Hamilton for my Wife's Lexus IS 250. Its not in the cards for now, but after installing this one, I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. And they are based out of Raleigh.

This is the kind of thing that would drive me nuts for about a week and a half until I forgot about it. :ROFLMAO:

Friday night, while preparing for the Softball game, I saw a familiar ride roll by. Its my old Jeep. I sold it to a family in Asheboro, which is about an hour away from where I live. We were playing one of the high schools right outside of Asheboro, and I look over as Im throwing in the batting cage and I was almost in shock. I havent seen it since I sold it last July. I had to run over and get a photo of it. Its the black one if you havent been following along.

IMG_2638.JPEG

I spent most of Saturday in the yard. I was able to put out 4 yards of mulch. I only have a little bit more to go, but Im almost around the entire house. I have 1 side left and the area beside the shop.

IMG_2640.JPEG

As good as my yard had done this year, I have a hard time with the dog pee. At least he hasnt dug in the yard this year. I do have this one area right in front of the front door that he has destroyed with urine spots.

IMG_2641.JPEGIMG_2647.JPEG

Another mow. I did go vertical stripes and mowed high because of how dry its been. I have been watering some, but I also dont want to stress my well. We got some rain Saturday, but it was just a drop in the bucket compared to what we need to get out of this drought. I have a few areas that are starting to show stress, but those have been my watering priorities.

IMG_2648.JPEGIMG_2645.JPEG

I also finished up a couple of small projects, that I didnt take any pictures of. I had to fix my backpack blower. its been down for a couple of months. I have been borrowing my FIL's. I had to take it apart and clean it up. It only needed a new primer bulb but finding the right one was a pain. I ordered 2 different universal kits, neither were correct. I ordered one from ebay that is Stihl branded, but its lost somewhere in the shipping black hole. I finally found one on amazon and it actually is correct. So now I have a few extras if needed later. I did change the spark plug, air filter, and one of the fuel filters while it was apart.

I also added some cheap security cameras to the homestead. I have Roku everything at our house including smart plugs and I got suckered in to their marketing emails. I decided to try their outdoor cameras. I got them mounted and they seem to do ok. Definitly better than what I had before... Nothing. And, they connect to my Roku app and can monitor them from my phone and my TV.

Glad to see your lawn is looking mighty still in this drought. Mine looked good and green for a while, but I think I started the irrigation for the year too late and let it get behind and now I can't catch up unless I want to water every day at this point. Showing lots of heat stress and even one area I wasn't sure if it was fungus so I treated it just in case. The backyard with the dogs is taking a real beating in this drought. It turns out it was a poor idea to take my fence down in that area.

This drought has been crazy. At least it hasnt been too hot yet. Weve had a few warm days, but we all know it will only get worse if we dont get rain. Im a little concerned about my well. I only water for about an hour at a time. I alternate between morning and evening so I get 2 hours of watering before the heat of the day. I dont have an irrigation system so I just move my sprinklers around every other day. Its been doing well so far. Just have some spots that are little more stressed. I just want to get through mothers day and birthday season for us which wraps up mid June. We will host a few family cook outs and I like to have the yard in good shape before the heat hits in late June and July and then just let it go in August and September.

I rode down to our beach house this weekend to do a little work and had a couple of other appointments (HVAC and Plumbing) and walked out to one of our favorite spots. I did not realized they have been doing dune/beach restoration. I guess they are getting ready for the busy season.

IMG_2669.JPEG

I stepped out of the car and saw this little guy where I parked. I freaked out for a minute, but realized it was not "red on yellow", so not a coral snake, but my heart rate did jump a little at first glance.

IMG_2672.JPEG

Got home in time for a mow. Its dry, but we've had just enough rain for the yard to stay in good shape.

IMG_2679.JPEGIMG_2680.JPEGIMG_2682.JPEG

Monday I played in a charity golf tournament with a team from work. Its always fun to play golf during the week and not have to take a day off to do so. We played at Lonnie Poole at NC State. It is a beautiful course, and extremely difficult.

We had a fairly busy weekend. The High School Softball team that I coach won on Friday night and we have advanced to the third round of the state playoffs. We played at a school almost 3 hours away. That made for a late night on Friday.

I did get in a mow on Saturday. I took a before photo but forgot the after.

IMG_2692.JPEG

As I was walking around the front of the house when I let the dog out, I noticed this little fella. I may have jumped a little, but he was gone a few hours later.

IMG_2696.JPEG

Before I mowed I decided to finally replace the starter solenoid that had gone bad about 6 months ago. I have been jumping the solenoid straight from the battery with my jumper cables. I had a little time on Saturday, so I went ahead and knocked it out.

IMG_2697.JPEGIMG_2698.JPEG

I got the magnetic tool pad from HF for Christmas, put it through its first use, and it really worked well in this situation. I was able to keep all of my tools as well as the nuts out of the way and in a place other than rolling around on the floor.

IMG_2699.JPEG

Of course with it being mothers day quite a few new plants arrived this weekend. I also got all of them potted or planted. And for some, new pots and new plants.

IMG_2701.JPEGIMG_2712.JPEG

The last on my list was installing fender extensions on the Gladiator. That was a fairly simple task that cleans up the tire poke from under the fenders. Some models of Wrangler come stock with these and I wanted to limit the trash hitting the paint so about an hour of work and if I dont like them, I can always remove them later. The installation was simple. Jeep uses plastic rivets, so all I had to do was removed the ones on there, install the extensions and then put in new rivets. It was an extremely simple project.

IMG_2704.JPEGIMG_2705.JPEGIMG_2708.JPEG

It was a pretty uneventful but very satisfying weekend. I hope you all had a great Mother's Day!

With the holiday weekend I was finally able to wrap up the storage bin project. I have been wanting to finish this up, but either something always came up or destiny didnt want me to do it. The last time I had a few minutes to knock it out, I went to move the Mustang and the battery was dead. Then I hooked up the charger, and must not have plugged it in all the way, and nothing. So I took that as a sign and pushed it off to another weekend. Well, finally the stars aligned, and I got it done. With all of the rain this weekend, I didnt feel bad spending a day in the shop.

Also, like every other project, I thought it would only take an hour or so. Well, that was true for the actual installation, but I didnt factor in all of the cleaning and organization.

I started this project to help with my flat space disorder. With my work areas filling up, i jumped on the storage bin craze that I have seen all over social media. After a few of the hiccups that I encountered along the way, Im happy to report it is done.

This is the area that I thought would be best. First up was to clean up the mess. I had a really bad habit of tossing all of my wood scraps on the floor in this area. I was saving them to burn in my outdoor fireplace. I should probably build a box to keep everything in, but that is a project for a different rainy day. I did have to take down my hangers that I have mounted on that wall.

IMG_2731.JPEG

With the area cleaned and vaccumed, I was able to move the rack in place and mounted to the wall via L brackets.

IMG_2732.JPEG

Bin test fit in place. After the earlier issues, I wanted to make sure everything fit where it would be for the long haul.

IMG_2734.JPEG

I had to raise my clamp rack to make room for the step ladder and then mounted a hanger for the extendable ladder on the side of the bin rack.

IMG_2735.JPEG

This was a few hours later, after organizing stuff that was taking up room all over my work benches and other areas. I forget how much time that stuff takes. I started putting stuff away and then taking it out and reorganizing it. My wife bought me a bluetooth lable maker so i was able to label the bins as I went. I still have a few bins to fill, but was very happy with how much stuff I was able to move to the bins.

IMG_2736.JPEG

Everything back to where its supposed to be. Project complete!

IMG_2737.JPEG

Another small project. I was surfing around on Kickstarter last year I bought these AC Shades. They were in the infancy of their campaign, and I saw a video on YouTube about them. I bought them last spring and I received them early this year. My AC units sit on the Southern side of my house and are in the sun all day. The claim is that they keep the condenser cooler and thus more efficient. Benefits are improved efficiency, energy savings, unit longevity. We will have to wait to see, but I got in early and cost was minimal, so I figured it was better than nothing. Just thought I would share.

The yard is starting to get a little stressed. With the drought and then then the week of rain straight, some issues have started to show. Its still very dry here. Even with the rain, I am starting the water rotation again.

Brown patch is starting to show.

IMG_2753.JPEG

After the last mow, I went ahead an hooked up the sprayer and put out some fungicide and a surfactant. Hopefully this will help with the fungus that is starting to show.

IMG_2754.JPEG

Yard still looks pretty good, just trying to fight off the issues before it gets too bad.

I feel your pain, Chris.

The dry spring has taken its tole on my front lawn, I've got some sort of clover/broad leaf **** that is invading the lower section of my front lawn that usually gets choked out by the zoysia grass once it takes root.

All the lawn geeks in the southeast are feeling the struggle....stay strong!

Get a little bit of post emergent and put in a pump sprayer and kill it off. Thats what I do in the spring. I use Tenacity or Torocity. You can get it on amazon. A little goes a long way. You can spot treat, you dont have to do a full broadcast.

Thanks for the heads up, just grabbed some Torocity, I'll give it a shot this weekend and see how it goes.
Get some Surfactant as well, it helps with moisture consumption and will also aid in herbicide effectiveness. Mix it in with the herbicide. Again, a little goes a long way so you dont need a lot. I have a gallon that I have been using for over a year. It will make the plants pull in herbicide and increase the benefit. It also helps with hydrophobic soil and water penetration.
