Ah HA!

It is not closed all the way.

So perhaps this door is a tiny bit taller than the old one, but it wouldn't take much extra height at all to cause this problem becasue the drywall was cut way too close to the door opening. I'm sure that's where all that damage came from in the first place. Drywall hung, door opened, oops...

So I'm willing to blame whoever cobbled these walls together instead of the guy who measured for the door. My next goal is to cut this dry wall back about a half inch or so. Maybe then the door will close a little more and I won't have to bring them back afterall.

Beyond that, I don't have many more immidiate to-dos in the garage. I need to get moving on my projects IN the garage and getting everything cleaned up. If you have any cool ideas for extension ladder storage though I'd like to see it! As of now, I'm thinking about hanging it from the basement cieling but getting it in and out of the basement is not ideal. Garage is a better spot.

That would not work in my house. The basement stairs end about 3-4' from the foundation wall, so there's no room to negotiate the corner with a ladder. I currently have mine hanging on the neighbor's fence (with his permission, of course).

I went ahead and trimmed the drywall on the header.

This allowed me to adjust the top roller in a bit and have the door shut just a tiny bit more.

Better!

but still far from great. I'm thinking that I'm going to have to get a diamond wheel for my angle grinder and shave the concrete down where it crowns. That will give me the height difference I'm looking for aesthetically. Functionally, this will do.

Although I am feeling pretty sentimental about my home of 11 years, I am not sad to say I'm finally leaving this mess!

It's crazy to me how much work I've put into this property and the massive automotive undertakings I've had success with in this little space.

2026 - yeah we never figured out a paint color we liked for the cieling, but the kitchen is still pretty good!

Don't even get me started on the master suite update... We went through every room of this house except one bathroom and made some big updates without ever spending a ton of money. In some places it shows, but I was never supposed to be here this long either! This all seems to have paid off. Literally. We got more money than I expected for this house, and it allowed us to move on to bigger and better things. I look forward to making a new thread after our move-in date.

As a little conclusion I'll leave you with two things.

The last big project in this garage was truley a great send-off. The results were fantastic and the emotional roller coaster was unreal. It's the highest quality, most expensive, and most possibly fruitful upgrade I've ever done. What started as a turbo upgrade turned into so much more.

The stock headers were too warped

I was tired of MAFs and sketchy translators, so I got a PNP MS3 ECU and tweaked some wiring.

Added a flex fuel sensor
1781140375406.png
installed this behemouth
1781140352306.png
went back to electronically controlling boost
1781140480293.png
upgraded cooling fans
1781140531689.png
And most importantly, I made all this garbage fit! Holy smokes. EVERYTHING fought me tooth and nail.

That intercooler was a real heartbreaker at almost $1200

I almost destroyed a set of $450 rails that I only needed for extra clearance.

I dealt with fuel leaks due to incompatible and improperly designed fittings, electical issues, THREE downpipes that didn't work for my application, hired a well known fabricator who I will not work with again, trimming, filing, drilling, tapping, and somehow made it by the skin of my teeth to the dyno tuner just four days before the 2026 GS Nationals. Even after that I STILL had critical work to complete, but I made it happen.

I'm extremely happy with how this all turned out, and I'm glad that I can say I left this garage with a bang. The car runs better than ever, and the curse of "I don't want to ruin it" is over.

The last thing I'll leave you with is a sneak peak of the new digs.

While it still only has a 2-car garage, it has much more usable dimensions. The lot also has plenty of flat ground to build a barn! Best of all, there's no HOA or local ordinances to tell me "no!" My family looks forward to calling this home... and v6buick headquarters.
