Hey Guys,
Im looking for a wall mount fan for my 2 car- 20x22 garage. I am currently using a Commercial Electric 24" floor fan that I got from HD. it works well but its so loud i cant hear myself think or listen to music when its running. Id like to mount a new fan up on the wall and out of the way, and find something that is quiet. Ceiling fan is out due to drop down electrical and air reels.

Does anyone have any recommendations on a brand or model of wall fan that is designed to run on the quiet side? Im just looking to create a bit of a breeze while working on things in the garage or waxing the car.
Thanks!

I have this Lasko fan mounted in my garage and it works great. Not too loud unless you crank it to "11" (3-speed), but I rarely use speed 3 since it really blows. It comes with a metal clip for wall mounting and it's easily removed from the wall if I need to use it elsewhere. I bought mine at Sam's Club:

I can tell you what didn't work for me. I wanted to go "whole house fan" concept and create a vacuum that pulls in cool air. I put a vent fan in the vent high in my garage and would crack the garage doors open to bring in cooler /low air. Unfortunately - it basically keeps the garage hot (slightly cooler) but with very little perceptible air moving. I'm back to a box fan in the entry door with both garage doors cracked for air flow. Trial and error with no real breakthroughs except I'm 100% certain that a fan has to have a source of fresh air to make a difference (and not just blow around hot air) as well as an escape so that cross flow occurs.

I may spring for a portable AC if the heat gets biblical again this year.

I have drugstore window box fans hanging from my ceilings
set to low speed and running 24/365

they run quiet and they get a circulation going that doesn’t stop when a door is opened

a furnace squirrel cage fan can be very quiet. If you can find a Stanley or other brand squirrel cage fan like what is used for drying carpets, and put it on low, they are pretty quiet.

I'm a fan of fans. I've dealt with quite a variety over the years.

It does come down to how much air you really want to move. If it is all about air volume, size matters most. You won't get tons of quiet air movement with a small fan unless it runs fast. Then it gets louder.
I have a few "industrial" fans leftover from jobs. Mostly in the 24" range. Those durable blade/motor combos run forever and move a ton of air. They are loud, high rpm jobbers made to move air. I use these fans for melting snow off vehicles and dry down in the shop garage. They also work well to flush the garage air when I'm working on 2s stuff inside. Fine for inflating a bouncy barn, not so fun for casual work environment.

Big barn fans work well to move a lot of air quietly. Do you need that much air? They're big.
I've worked with a variety of B.A.F. models. There is nothing quieter than their direct drive versions, but it sounds like ceiling isn't an option here.

I know it's not fancy, so maybe it's tempting to overlook. Cheap box fans are generally quiet. I have a bunch of those things and they get the most use. Set them on low speed and let them run. They are so cheap, that fixing isn't worth the effort. New ones start in the shop where I see them all day. I may have a couple running at the same time. After they get dirty, I put them in windows at job sites to **** out air. Those things are light, simple, quiet, and cheap.

BTW, I've seen a lot of oscillating fans that just don't seem to like oscillating for long. The cheap ones quit moving and the industrial versions wear and get noisy. Just use two box fans if you want air in two places.

I mounted two 24" Big *** Fans (AirEye) on my wall. They push a lot of air and I keep them at 30% which runs super quiet. I've been more than happy with them.

I'm going to be investing in one of these as soon as my wallet recovers from the Vyper stool purchase. :bounce:

I've heard several reviews of the Vyper Fan and how quiet and efficient they are at moving air. After last summer's heat wave I think that will be my next purchase.

Did you ever do this Mike? I found this while searching. Adding my loft I'm not getting the air from the cieling fan and it gets hot in Florida

The basic 3spd Honeywell fans from Walmart work great and are dirt cheap. I use them in my race trailer and in my utility room to keep air moving.
