So a few weeks back I was trying to make a deal with a local friend to buy his old rubber tire wheel loader,
actually, we had been bickering over the price for almost a year. He never had it running the whole time I
was trying to buy ,the last day I decided to make one more offer, I was in the cab of it trying to get it running
myself when he showed up and said " too late ,the guys gonna be here tomorrow to pick it up, I've sold it"!
I was thinking to myself, good ,this must be a sign that I don't need a relic as old as this 1971 Hough loader anyway..
Lo and behold ,not 24 hours later I'm trapped on that dreaded Facebook Marketplace staring at a way newer machine
and its a $1000 cheaper too boot... I show it my best friend ( who also happens to employ me part time driving
truck and trailer ,he says ,lets load up the float and go down the road to see it ,after all its only 40 miles...
Well ,here we have my next " yard helper" its a 1997 Dresser 510 C with a reliable Cummins 4BT (3.9 litre)
it has led an easy life for the past 20 years loading one dump truck a couple loads per day for 6 months of the year
with mushroom compost from the Highline Mushroom factory ,it needs a little attention with seized stuff from
sitting more than being used much ,that I can handle! Its usable as it sits, I've fixed a few things when I've had time, its
going to be so handy at my new place, got a bunch of topsoil to move, yard to level up ,dead trees to clean up
and I'll get a set of heavy forks for moving antique cars etc... around here too.. Oh yeah, we get a "bit" of snow here
in central Ontario ,so it will be rather nice to have a cab with heat finally after plowing with my faithful little 1947 John Deere M
for the past 30 years... ( this photo was the remaining snow pile in May)

When I was a kid I worked for a farmer who had a John Deere M, they're neat little tractors (but not so fun to use during the winter.)

Nice find.
I was in Campbellford many years ago snowmobiling.
Stayed at a friend's sisters place. Does Cullen's Place mean anything to you? a small variety store & restaurant
Want to know how small Campbellford actually is? I knew Jim ( my ex father in laws home costruction partner) and Pauline Cullen very well, in fact I grew up in the back yard of Cullens Place at Stapleys Garage and eventually bought it as my first home! I ran it as Kruizers Cafe ( 50's diner) , sold it after 11 years there to my younger brother who still lives in it currently ( not much longer though, we are both moving in to our folks estate properties one block north of the restaurant!

Is that Mercury the Turnpike Cruiser model? I had an uncle who owned one when I was a kid, they were a good example of the excess styling of the late 1950s.
No , Turnpike Cruisers were 1957/58 , this is what is known as a Monterey Cruiser... I did a bunch of work on a 1957 a couple years ago for a customer / friend too...1782148946611.png1782148972030.png
