Man really lusting after one of those Tipke carts. The $100 shipping is scaring me enough that I am considering a road trip from CA that somehow ends up in Kansas City along the way :)

Think of the other stops you could make! We need to make a GJ-guy atlas of the US.

Denver, CO:

Then there is that pair of crazy surplus stores in Wichita, KS. (One, aviation surplus, the other, anything under the sun.)

Well now, your expanding my trip next month. I'm going to be in the KC area next month and am planning on stopping by HJE, but now I may need to drift out to Wichita.

If you are satisfied with your slotted screwdrivers, this is an excellent pickup. $60 with the discount code.

For sure those are nice.. for more delicate things I prefer the megadora because some of those have knurling on the shaft; I like knurling on the shaft. Don't usually miss it on impact screwdrivers though. I only have one vessel screwdriver that I find awful (as in get rid of it awful). Made in Thailand

Other businesses and nuns in the Kansas City area that HJE endorses:

Wichita's aviation supply, tool, surplus store:

Metal and many things, at a different location:
(Check out google reviews for a hint as to what people are finding there.)

Oh yeah, nice to see that price come down. I think it was a little high from all of the... you know, things lately. I think I paid $63ish about two years ago, and they are very nice.

oh man this is getting dangerous. I love the yardstore too. Maybe not as much as HJE... I think Clarks tools and equipment is somewhere out there too, but need to appreciate god's country can be pretty spread out.

I tried tracking these in Google maps (this is shareable and editable - hopefully some idiot doesn't delete the list on me)

@Squankum - the yard in Wichita appears to be different in that its a pure metal supply store instead of a retailer. "Charlies Denver" in google apparently has different tools than what I was looking for :)

If I get motivated enough I'll start a separate thread eventually...

(Looks at Clark's Tools)

As Kansas goes, Shawnee looks close to Kansas City!

(Shawnee the town, not Shawnee County, which is Topeka, which, as Kansas goes, isn't all that long a drive, either. I have no tool store recommendation for Topeka, just a military aviation museum recommendation.)

Oops. The Charlies tool shop is no more.

Just tried to log in to build a small cart for this year's HJE Day, but it seems my login credentials no longer work. Sent an email to the address at the top of the homepage to see if they can reactivate me account as it's been a few years since my last purchase!
