The sockets and that open metal case were $4 (middle row of sockets and ratchet are Snap-on, front row are other US made). Everything else pictured was a $1 each. Huot box is full of Italian made bits (No idea if they are good or not?) Leather handled knife is a Craftsman (obviously had a good bit of edge work done over the years). Not bad for $9. Also got a 5 or 6-D cell Maglight for $1 and Mac 1/2 swivel adapter for a $1.
No idea how some of this stuff last into the 3rd hour of an estate sale. Some other stuff they had was quite overpriced IMO.

Here is my haul from the estate of a 99 yr old. This was the second weekend, so who knows what I missed the first weekend. Lots and lots of camera, film, and darkroom peripherals, but the place had been trashed by previous searchers. Manuals, boxes etc just scattered all over the floors. The guy doing the grunt work was pissed, trying to keep paths open to get to stuff.

Found some stuff in the garage, piles of cheap ratchet sets, stamped wrenches, misc ****. Then picked up a small needle nose, Lindstrom Sweden. Keeper. Grabbed a 6” C Clamp, Bridgeport looking nut driver, and a chuck from an eggbeater drill. Poked about in three other outbuildings, found the tube of oil, perused a pile in the Yard, then went into the house. In one of the offices, MLW found some stuff, she thought cheap, but a few keepers came home.

She again spent more on plants than I did on tools.

Left to Right
Klein and XCelite wire strippers
XCelite screwdriver and needlenose
Tube of Handy Oil
Lindstrom needle nose, drill chuck, Picclic Teeny screwdriver w 1/4 and 1/8 bits (been looking for one since seeing them here), with an adapter between the two sizes
Bridgeport looking 1/4” nut driver.
PXL_20260620_015702441-X3.jpg

In the left behind, two of the XCelite 9 piece sets w torque multiplier handle, both reeking of barf.

Hit one and missed one yesterday. First was an annual sale near my cabin. She's had a few good things--mostly camping related--over the years to be worth taking a look. Not this time. I guess someone must buy the gimcracks and knick-knacks, but I have no idea who.

The second one had a HUGE A-frame sign on the highway with a big arrow pointing down a side street. Finally, someone who knows how to advertise a yard sale! Unfortunately, after that, no trace of a sale. No more signs, no parked cars, no sale. Drove to the end of the street and never found anything. Maybe today?

There weren't many garage sales around these parts this weekend but I did find a couple worth while.
The first I picked up a Mitutoyo depth gauge for $10 and a new hammer handle ($2) which was the size I needed.
Then after a couple lousy sales I found one with lots of tools. It took quite a bit of self control to walk out of there without emptying
my wallet. I got 6" channellocks, 8" Toptul side cutters, 7" Snapon side cutters, 10" Klein linesman pliers, small Klein wire strippers, and small Visegrips for $5.

Yesterday morning I decided that I was not going to go to any garage sales this weekend. I really need to get some stuff done, and take care of what I have here before adding to the pile.
I took an alternate route up to Harbor Freight, and spotted a huge "G-SALE" sign, and felt compelled to follow the signs to the destination.
After picking through box after box after box after box of rusty orphans, picked a few pieces out of the mess:

three 1/2" female-to-female extensions. two round, one square. no markings other than one is knurled, which looks Sherman-Klove-ish.
Diamond Calk & Horseshoe 6-inch adjustable
Sparta CC24 (for a collector in Ellensburg)
S-K 42470 1/2" RHFT ratchet (spins freely, seems okay other than rust)
Coes 6-inch wrench

Cincinnati Tool Co. 3/8" cold chisels (two each)
Barcalo 1/2" x 9/16" DOE (because... no Barcalo left behind.)
Petersen Dewitt 10R vise grips (actually in pretty decent shape!)
Proto 3/8" cape chisel
Craftsman yellow-handled hacksaw. Production code BB (Stanley?) (Don, does yours have a part number on it?)

Craftsman "Circle H" 1/2" breaker
P & C 6248 1/2" drive offset breaker "6248 Fix Spin’r 15½" 1¾ lbs" (not marked with part number. only the "P & C" logo. I got the part number out of the 1939 catalog No. 40)
Snap-on SSD-6 screwdriver (handle damaged)
Proto Los Angeles 712S adjustable wrench
Crescent J26 bent-nose six-inch slip-joint
Ridgid 14 inch pipe wrench

Craftsman 5/8" drift punch (no part number) "G in a circle" - unknown?
Utica 91-8 8-inch adjustable
BLACKHAWK (no part number) 1/2" drive x 5/8" SQUARE drain plug socket? (who is looking for one of these?)
Action 53JA 3/8" dr 5-inch extension
P & C 5/8" x 11/16" offset double-end box wrench 7-3/4" overall length (NO part number, cannot find match in catalog)

5/16" x 7-1/2" crossbar that some gorilla used for a punch
PEXTO pipe wrench - six inches long - marked 8 - and yes, it is 8 inches long fully extended.
G.A.I. (Japan) plastic-handled scissors

and from the FREE pile:

about two-thirds of a gallon of paint thinner
aerosol spray paint
"Camel Brown" brush-on enamel. I would never PAY for this color, but for free I'll take it.

$10. all in (y)

While out running errands on Thursday, I hit a sale:
55346140997_349d9e2e81_b.jpg
Digging among the new tools, I found a WWII SK socket set, and a partial SK Wayne, a Stanley G5, and a pair of Knipex pliers. All that for $8. He also had a Kennedy versa-cart, full of the remains of a machinists career, but he wanted $3500 for it. WAAAYY more than it was worth, by around 3K. I just nodded and moved along.

Today I went out with a list of around 8-10 sales of interest, finding the following
55347013121_54a2d6c0f2_b.jpg
Most of the stops either had nothing of interest, or I got there too late, but I didn't find too much today. Blacksmith made adjustable, hole saw of the thickest metal ever seen, Mayhew punches, unmarked counter sink, Snap-on extension, vintage spy novel. $10 altogether.

Not much of interest at garage sales around here the last couple of weeks--they mostly look "pink" according to my wife, meaning all baby/childrens stuff and cheap gimcracks and seasonal decor items. But I did get a one dollar shop broom, a D-8 Disston saw, a Disston-Porter 368 hacksaw, 4 Felo Ergonic screwdrivers, a 10WR Visegrips and 5 paperback science fiction novels. About $15 total at 3 different sales.20260618_114551.jpg20260619_131907.jpg20260618_115040.jpg

Deus Irae is a wonderful book. Then again, anything by PKD is top notch.
I read a library copy when it first came out, and hadn't since, and **** and Zelazny are among my favorite authors--and all five books were only a dollar total. It was an easy decision to bring them all home, even though I may already have some of the others.

A quick walk around my local car boot sale this morning before going off to a classic car meet gained me these pieces.

1782047689185.jpeg

Proto AN8505-13 hydraulic coupling spanner. I was really surprised when I picked it up, turned it over and saw it was a Proto. I've no real use for this but I couldn't resist it.
Athol Super Chrome 3/8" Whit combo. UK Govt. property mark, stock number and 1953 date. Little or no signs of use.
Stahlwille Motor, 1/4" x 5/16" Whit DOE.
Stahlwille Stabil 1, 1/4" x 5/16" DOE I always pick up Stahlwille spanners if they are cheap.
Blue-Point WOEX90 3/16" Whit combo. Cad plated with no date code and no signs of use.
Ford branded DOE with no size markings. Marked V G&H P which is the makers mark I assume.
A short throw special purpose slide hammer. No markings at all and I've no idea what it is intended to fit. The two pins are 5mm dia. It's unusual for a slide hammer to be pulling on the face of something rather than on its end.
£3 for all of the above.

Last week I got this Armstrong 12 x14mm DOE for 50p. The 1966 Armstrong catalogue says that metric and Whitworth spanners in this style are "available to special order". I assume therefore that these spanners in metric sizes are not common.

There were a couple of them posted here recently. Not sure who had them.
It's actually kind of a slick design, as far as "speeder handles" go. Looks weird. Works fine.

The speeder is a one handed design. Early design and way cool for sure! Not common even in these parts close to the factory

First off Happy Father’s Day to all the dads on here! Today I just took a ride to the flea market because there were no sales listed by me. Not a heck of a lot but I got a few things. $23 bucks got me a brand new snap on file set, made in Portugal. Then big spending $1 got me an Armstrong planner jack and Starrett 161-c clamps with a bonus pair of 161-a

B.P.Co. SERV DIV T-24969 ratchet;
huh? At first glance, similar to Thorsen model 77. After a second look, it's completely different (female drive, three rivets holding head to shank, striated lines along length of handle)
I'm stumped.
“SKILTWN”(?) hex/1/4dr adapter
SKILTWN ? another mystery.
daisy forgemark slipjoints,
Possibly Worth. The more of those I run into, the more confusing it seems to get. That symbol was used by more than one outfit.
In my post above, you will see a pair of slip-joints that are not mentioned in the list of items. (left side, eighth item down.)
they are clearly stamped "WORTH". They are so corroded I didn't notice if they also sport that "daisy" logo.
I'll see if I can dig them out and clean them up enough to get a photo and post it in the big "pliers" thread.

Yeah, I have another slipjoints with this mark somewhere and knew the mfr once upon a time. I just tend to forget whose mark it was.
I picked up the SKILTWN just out of curiosity. It also has a part number. 29525 does not come up on the SKIL website, but maybe it’s just obsolete.
