This is a vintage industrial oily waste can manufactured by Justrite Manufacturing Co., typically used in shops to store oily rags.

I know it’s not exactly a tool, but it makes a great garage companion nonetheless :)

I refinished it in a rustic dark gray color (Carbon Copy). Instead of spray painting, I brushed it by hand to preserve more of that vintage character and texture. I also cut a custom piece of wood to match the shape of the foot pedal and finished it with a darker wood stain, which adds a nice contrast.

This is a fairly large unit, standing about three feet tall. According to the previous owner, it spent many decades in a family-owned shop, which makes it a neat piece with some real history behind it.

Nice one!
I found one of those a couple of years ago. It came from the C&H sugar plant in Crockett, CA. I gave it to my neighbor due to lack of floor space.IMG_0825.jpeg

I thought that was what I drug home out of the scrap hopper at work! Wiped it down and it’s a dip tank. Still gonna hold my soiled rags..😉IMG_6081.jpeg

I feel it’s an often overlooked necessity in any working shop. All of mine leave the shop and sit in a metal can outside till trash day.
