Spent the most of the day in the actual garage (which is out back, off the alley), scraping paint off of the Dalton. Going from this

to this

I am going to need a lower stool to get at the very bottom (it is so much fun getting old), but now I have three sides mostly cleared, and it really looks better.

I also pulled the spindle caps off and the spindle out to find the bearing surfaces in great shape,

and started inspecting the mast and countershaft pulley, mostly to see how I want to go about rigging it, as it is missing the front motor support bracket, along with the housing that the reversing lever sits in and allows that action

There is a drum with the planetary gears you can see on the left ride in, which I have, but I am not sure about the braking system for the change, and might just go with a simple reversing motor, at least until I can get some sort of documentation on how it works, as there is no known manual or parts diagram.

Here you can see where the support shaft rides. That is an easy "fix" as I can fab a bracket for the front of the lathe and just get a rod to use as a support.

Here it is with the paint getting removed, and showing the black japaning

and here is a pic of everything that the lathe came with

steady and follower rests, change gears, face plate, lantern tool post, and the parts for the planetary gears. Very happy with both rests being there, as there are basically no parts available for these.

(I had meant to post this update two weeks ago, and just realized I hadn't. Sorry for that)
