Any tips on inserting the foam closure strips behind the bottom of the panels on a metal roof? We have Menard's interlocking foam closure strips.

We are building a shed and installing a Menard's Pro Rib metal roof, and the interlocking foam closures that go at the bottom of the panels are a major pain to get in. We are trying to slip them underneath once the panel goes up, but then it's difficult to get them aligned and get the paper backing off. Any tips?

Put them on BEFORE installing the panel

Mine was a lower slope roof, but I put the panel in place and drove two screws about 3-4 feet up from the edge to hold the panel in place, then I was able to lift up the lower edge, prop it up with a 2x4 on edge, install the closure strip with sealant on top, and slide the 2x4 out, then screw in the bottom of the panel.
I tried the first by just applying sealant to the upper surface of the closure strip and sticking it to the underside, however, I did not secure the panel with screws and it were messy and moved too easily out of place. Not convinced there's any value to the adhesive strip on the bottom, though.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I've been working on it and keeping the panels loose enough so you can peel them back seems to be key to getting it placed correctly and the adhesive back.

The closures go on first and then the sheet. Why are you putting them on the sheathing? There should be a metal drip edge at the bottom of the eaves. The closures go on the drip edge. To answer your original question I would stop, remove the sheets, install the drip edge and reinstall the closures and sheets. By the way stagger the joints on the closures so they don’t fall on the sheet laps.

Last time I used them in our the on the panel and then installed the panel, unless I'm missing something it seems you're making this overly complicated

Thanks for the reply and tips. Yup, we do have drip edge installed at the eaves of the roof sheathing and underlayment on top of that. Then the closures on top of those and the metal panel.
