There was a moving sale today that started at 4 PM. I really don't need more stuff but it was only 3 miles away. So I went and stuff was pretty reasonable. I started with the Truper wheelbarrow for $20, total for the day was $150. Craftsman, a bunch of Easco wrenches, lots of other US tools. The Porter Cable bandsaw works good too.

$23 spent on a solo run to Jake’s flea. (MrsLS is in Ocean City NJ w LesserDottir3 and my MIL.) Unknown plane part, original(?) Leatherman tool, ten 1/4” pegboard hooks, known and unknown pliers, ice pick, unmarked claw hammer head, drivers, Controlled Steel (Danielson) does, Bonney Crocodile, Bonney jellybean 220 S-wrench, Bonney “E” maleable steel S-wrench, five Bonney 3/8dr sockets, Wiss KS kitchen shears, C’man crowntop keychain driver, Barcalo doe, C’man and unk wrenches, LSS hardened steel rule, Industro and Duro hex ell drivers, two hardcover books.
The only leftbehind I can’t forget is a pair of Ohm Walsh II speakers for $30. Forty years ago, I wanted them so badly, but I settled on more traditional KEFs. I still think they are the best-looking speakers I’ve ever seen. Running into them today left me emotionally confused, like seeing an out-of-my-league-back-then classmate bagging groceries. A couple scuffs and dings, but, hey, none of us are in the shape we were then. Then the seller mentioned his go-to guy for repairs, and that helped me move on, a little.

Unmentioned in that post was an unrecognized nickel-plated brass device with two brass mesh-shrouded wings.
I suspected from the shape (esp the threaded end) and the 12[gauge] it could be a bore cleaning/polishing tool like a jag or brush, but wanted to find the patent to confirm.
Then other stuff crowded my time.
Last night I looked up the patent by date 18910414, and found 0450323 the Tomlinson gun tool. A quick dip in US Census and genealogy data showed that Charles S and Charles E Tomlinson were father and son gunsmiths in Syracuse NY. Charles S (1838-1896) mustered out of the Union Army as a sergeant major. Charles E (1868-1913) died of typhoid fever.
This was a poplular cleaner - they made and sold tens of thousands. Union Hardware also manufactured them. B.G.I.Co. is likely Bridgeport Gun Implement Company. Worthpoint and eBay show many of these cleaners in original boxes.

A small haul from a mid-week car boot sale yesterday.

A 12" pair of snips with no makers name or COO. I've posted pictures on the Shears, Scissors and Secateurs thread.
A Draper 176 car door card tool.
A Britool 26 x24mm DOE.
A nice adjustable pin/peg spanner with replaceable 3mm pins. No makers name or COO.
A Draper branded pair of nips in good unabused condition. Marked "West Germany" and so predates German reunification.

£6 all in from different sellers.

I prefer to sell on eBay, others prefer here in the classified section. I avoid PM like the plague and have never sold anything on FB, as I prefer to sell on CR if I need to sell something shipping isn't practical.

If you do sell here, make sure it is in the proper section, otherwise it is a good way to get bounced.

how much is the IBM kit?

I have no idea what it is worth. It doesn't look like it was used much.
I need to find out if any of the tools are missing. Apparently IBM had many types of kits over the years.
Also have an IBM labelled analog multimeter.
Of course, anything officially for sale will be in the For Sale section. It's going to take time to go through it all.

Forgot to put this in. I found this Hole Hawg at a garage sale last week. Paid a whole ten dollars for it. Works perfect but I did replace the cord.

I bought one for the same price a number of years ago. It had the plug cut off the cord, and the seller thought it was to keep a couple of teenage boys from trying to put it to use! Safety first. I tested it for shorts and grounding, then put a new plug on the cord and it works perfectly.

Slow holiday weekend, meaning not much in the way of good sale hereabouts. But, when I check CL this morning, I saw a listing for a semi-interesting sale, but, sadly, I had something I had to do this AM. But, once that was finished, I headed out for the sale. Which turned out to be a one day only sale of the estate of a former timber mill manager. Not too much of interest, as I think a family member got most of the tools, but I did find a few things:

SK Tools universal, Bonney flat head socket, 3/8" power drive anvil, 14" PEXTO brace, Carborundum stone, Blue Point DOE, PowrKraft (Wright) socket, Walden and Matco spinners, Williams wrenches, wiring gizmo, and two USA basin wrenches. Best part was all of that for $5.

Oddly, there were no local sales listed today on Craigslist. I paged through my wife’s mostly unused facebook account and spotted some local sales so we checked them out. The first sale was disappointing although I grabbed a few hose clamps.
The second stop was a free sale and along with some vases I brought home these items. I had recently broken a 5 gallon pail so this one will replace it.
The last sale was a TOO that actually had some tools.
Craftsman wrenches. The top DBE has no manufacturer code.
Rusty long nose visegrips.
No name pliers.
A couple of sales are listed on Craigslist tomorrow so perhaps that will be a better day.

There were a few sales listed and the one we checked out first had quite a few beautiful Snap-on tools that I would have liked to buy. Unfortunately the seller had them priced for about ten times what I would have been willing to pay. I ended up with a few sockets and a =v= Craftsman 15/16” combo.
The early flank drive spark plug socket was the first one of those I’d seen.
We stopped at a TOO on the way to the next sale and I picked up this wooden plane just because I liked it’s appearance.
It ended up in an appropriate drawer.
The next sale was a bust so we headed back to the sale where we found the Craftsman Saltus wrenches on Friday. I found one that I had missed along with a few other items.The Craftsman reamer was abused and rusty but I don’t often see them. The combo wrench is a P&C.

Estate sale purchases. A figurative and literal haul. A local tool collector liquidated his extensive collection of woodworking and machinist hand tools before his passing, and the estate sale still featured hundreds of hand planes, chisels, files, hammers, vices, and other shop fixtures. I can appreciate why the heirs may have waved a hand at the assembled mass and yielded to a hefty management fee to not deal with it.

Every lot started at $3, hosted on crappy website and poorly advertised sale, so only a handful of items reached three digits. I think I got a box of 18 hand files for $11. Add in taxes and buyers’ fees, and this pile was about $330. I crested the dopamine hill of delight on the way home, and by the time I’d unloaded my purchases I’d already shifted from “I got a lot of great deals” to “I have a lot of junk to deal with.”

The sales manager’s battered Honda CRV was parked in front of the storage locker where I picked up the tools with a custom license plate that read “ITNVRNS.” Interpreted as “it never ends”, it struck me as a remarkably philosophical take on being in the business of managing entropy and the endless redistribution of **** from one garage to another, however temporarily.

ZERO sales this weekend understandably so! Did get a market place sale this morning. I got 3 pretty nice Snap-on hammers for $100. A little dirty but nothing major. The big ones face’s are a little beat up but still plenty good for a big beater.

Someone here bought an old pair of safety glasses a little while back. I can’t seem to find the post. I picked up this old pair for $1 just to see what they were. The only marking is “B-I”. I wish they weren’t so narrow or I’d have to get some use out of them. I like the folding mesh sides.

Before I got the cataract surgery done, I used those a few times for the mentioned really close work. Since then, maybe once.

The thick ones are actually bifocals. the old guy's eyes had to have been legally blind.

Took a drive out to an estate sale with a fancy workshop, day 3 of 3 and almost closing time so it had been pretty thoroughly picked through. Still, a couple of goodies remained.
SK 45114 7/16 socket, Tekton PVC pipe cutter, couple wire caps, commemorative rooster of the year pewter cup from the Rooster Net radio club.


Plus the cart it's sitting on. This one's headed for the kitchen.


Took a detour to hit a second estate sale just in case. Most of what I bought was politely waiting by the door.
Stevens Walden Worcester 1/2" drive T-handle spinner with a Snap-on socket attached. This one's a little more useful than the 9/32 spinner I own.
Slip-joint pliers, made in USA and stamped No. 226, can't find any other marks.
Williams 809 and 808X wrenches.
Eveready 13.5v battery still in the box. Even had the mailing label on the reverse side.

And a bread bag.

Pretty neat place, even if most of the offerings weren't for me.

I did get one last thing for the road. I wish I hadn't but at least I found it fast. The photo is bad but so is the bug.

Friends, this is your reminder to always check for ticks and other dastardly critters, because today's amoral hitchhiker was alpha-gal syndrome's strongest soldier, the lone star tick.
