It wasn't today, but it was this week - finished installation of the five NewAge Bold 3.0 five piece cabinet sets bought from Costco for $650 a set less $400 for five Costco Direct items purchased ($2850 plus CA tax, free delivery, 2% executive cash back and 2% Costco Visa cash back). Each set consisted of a 30" locker cabinet, two 24" base cabinets, two 24" upper cabinets, and one 48" wood top.

I've got NewAge Pro cabinets in my attached workshop, which you see a peek of a wall to the right of the tall cabinets in the first picture. The Pro's are certainly a better built cabinet, but these Bold cabinets are very sturdy and solid when connected like these. I did know what to expect, because we also have a barn where I installed Bold cabinets a couple of years ago in the tack/feed room.

Been in house six years with lots of "stuff" in one garage bay and in workshop - so with these cabinets and the outside Keter 11x7 shed I put in two weeks ago (also from Costco), I'm finally reclaiming the garage and workshop.

Five 30" lockers, 12' 6" of cabinets

PXL_20260702_170451021.jpg
Six upper wall cabinets, 6' wide by 3' high. Since these are on the same wall as the NewAge 30" storage lockers, set top height of these to match top height of those cabinets.

PXL_20260702_170552084.jpg

Ten base cabinets with bamboo top, 20' total run. Four upper wall cabinets, group of 3 are 6' wide. White shelving was already there from prior installation, so it's height drove the height of the upper wall cabinets.

We learned--the hard way--to replace the plastic mortar tubes that come with those with ones we made from well casing with a 1/4" plate welded to one end. The first time a tube cracks on you and sends the charge shooting horizontally across the ground, you'll understand why. I had a star shell go right between myself and a friend who was standing nearly shoulder-to-shoulder with me.

A majority of the leftover tubes have never had a shell in them and are loaded with smaller shots. They will go in the trash after tonight.
The 4”,5”,6” shells are in the black HDPE tubes which are pretty much the standard in professional shows.

More pedantically, willows and poplars are in the same family, the Salicaeae--as are 54 other genera and around 1,200 known species.
It seems I read that a poplar is also the largest living o
Lord, no. I wanted a walkable safe property with pretty trees and plants. I mowed down a thousand trees, preserving the ones I liked. Moved at least 10,000 yards of dirt to get the grade I wanted. Then planted nice decorative plants here n there. It's got a long way to go, but I can enjoy looking at it and playing with the dogs on it.
Here is a long but interesting tidbit I read about years ago about aspens which are a close relative of Poplars.
Copied from grok ai

"

The story you're thinking of refers to Pando (Latin for "I spread"), a massive clonal colony of quaking aspen (Populus tremuloides) in Utah's Fishlake National Forest and technically an aspen rather than what most people picture as a "poplar" (though aspens belong to the Populus genus and are sometimes called trembling poplars).Wikipedia

Key facts about Pando:
It consists of ~47,000 genetically identical stems (the above-ground "trees") connected by a single vast underground root system.
It covers ~106 acres (about and weighs an estimated 13 million pounds (around 6,000 metric tons), making it the largest known organism by mass and one of the largest by land area.Wikipedia
All the stems share the exact same DNA because they’re clones produced vegetatively through the root system (suckering), though the species can also reproduce via seeds.
The root system is ancient—estimates vary but often range from several thousand to as much as 14,000+ years old (some older claims exist, but recent modeling supports up to around that age). Individual stems live only 100–130 years on average before dying and being replaced by new ones from the roots.Wikipedia
This is why it's considered a single organism rather than a forest of separate trees.

Got Dad’s various power yard tools here. The battery stuff all works fine, and will be going on FBMP in the next couple of days.

This Stihl FS 90 doesn’t start.

IMG_9639.jpegIMG_9638.jpeg

I bought it a can of Stihl’s fancy 50:1 gas. Got spark. Got air. I need to check the valve lash. I don’t know when it last ran, though it has been a few years. Gas tank was empty when I picked it up, but I don’t know if it was empty when stored. Carb looks ok, not gummed up.

Going to buy it a new carb. If that works, and it runs, it goes on FBMP too.
Those 4- mix engine are finicky as hell. 1/8 turn matters on the fuel screws.

Yep, first thing I did to my CX30. Dealership did me no favors, why should I do them any?
When we bought our last car, my bride decided she didn't like the dealers signature sticker on the trunk lid. She asked the salesman to have it removed before delivering the car. He told her that he could not do that because of company policy. Fast forward the finance man's office. Sticker is still on the car, wife looked at the contract all nice and printed up and took the offered pen and commenced to subtract a deduction of the transportation fees from the total. She told the guy if it was their policy to add a dealer's advertising sticker, she was subtracting the surcharge to compensate us for being the advertising agency. While the new contract was being printed, the sticker came off the car. Sales dude was not happy.

When I went to pick-up the new 2026 CX-5, the sticker was still on the car, even though the salesman had said he would have it taken off. I think he conveniently forgot and hoped I wouldn't notice when I got the car. It was the 1st thing I looked for and remarked about it stll being there. He promptly pulled the car into the prep area to have it removed....

We got the pasenger side wires and the coil wire changed out this morning. Took a few hours!

The wagon has the tow package, which uses a mechanical fan and an aux electric fan instead of two electric fans, so there is added stuff on the front of the engine. She had already taken the upper fan shroud off and part of the air intake. I had to take off the mechanical fan, pulley, belt and belt tensioner in order to get to the serpentine belt and take off that tensioner as well. That gave barely enough room to get to the wires on the Optispark(distributor) cap. Then we had to fish the wires through a small opening between the a/c compressor and the engine block...

Car started and idled nicely on the first try!

Congrats. I had to slide the PS pump forward a bit to be able to sneak the wires behind it on the Corvette.

I was going to go and test out the previous mentioned fix to my kipplauf but a friend called me this AM and asked for help in finding a lost dog. So, I made flyers for him and helped run them out. After that, I pulled the headstock on the Dalton, and started getting that cleaned up on the underside.

Patching my lawn shed to hold me over for a bit. Sistered a few studs, rafters and rebuilt the top plate on one end.. Needs some sheathing on the end gable and a bit of roof repair still yet. I knocked out the framing part today. Tarped it and called it done for the day.

Tree professionals handled the tree yesterday am, some additional damage to the shed, but don't think it added anymore work. Zero complaints.

Applied a top coat of CSRM (Cow-**** Reinforced Mud) to my new paint job:

It smells as good as it looks! Airing up to hit the pavement and head back to the barn for a beers after four hours of bashing around on dirt roads and trails.

At the end of some random "not the road I was looking for":

Fun driving around with no real destination in mind--I'm never lost if I don't really much care where I end up. I figured I didn't need to bring maps, as I spent several years working all over this area... thirty years ago.

Fun thing about getting older--I get to see new sights every day without leaving my county!

Maybe I'll stick some maps in the map pocket.

It was much cooler up there than it is back here in town.

Today was pull tools out of the garage to work.

Cleaned the cotton wood seeds off of the a/c unit. But also cleared where the unit had been covered in mud. Now the bottom inch about half way around works again.

Noticed a hose splice was leaking so adjusted it and tightened the clamp. The Vessel screwdrivers I got from HJE still are great to use.

Pulled weeds and trimmed two trees.

Built the 2nd shelving unit from a Prime Day deal in the basement. 1st was finished yesterday.

Broke down the boxes and put away tools.

Friday the electrician, and his helper came. They installed a switch so we can run the ceiling fan in the kitchen independent of the can lights, and cleaned up some dubious wiring in the attic. They also installed a sub panel in the garage for future expansion. I got my compressor moved out behind the garage, and they wired that up. Put the cabinet that was in the back corner where the compressor was.

Saturday I did yard work, killed a lot of ants then BBQ'd some pork ribs, and had some friends over. Drank beer, burned some logs in the fire pit. Watched the local fireworks show from afar. No pics too busy being social.

Today it was a diff service on the Tool Box Truck™ since it just rolled 100K. 1G of Red Line Shockproof, and a Lube Locker gasket. Kind of a pain with no lift, but it is what it is. The stuff that came out looked good no sparklies or excessive sludge. Most of the labor was cleaning things up.

Dog has been found, and is home now.

@Beerhippie sorry if I missed it...where are those photos taken? Great looking VW, clearly well cared for.

Took the plunge and bought a 'wrench kit' from Alien Space saver. Wanted to try the concept and see if I should go all in. meh. not yet convinced. ROI, thus far, seems elusive. With a full investment, I may see the light. Not sure if I'm willing at this point.

@bmwrd0 that's GREAT news about the pup.

That was the interior of NE corner of Wallowa County, between the Zumwalt Prairie and Chesnimnus Creek, in the NE Corner of Oregon. Outside of hunting seasons, that area is pretty much abandoned--in a four hour drive, we saw three other vehicles--and those were in the first half hour of the drive!
