Yea my question is why does metric jump in bigger increments like 5mm but sae goes in 1/16s
Another academic discussion I see but I'll play.
Who sells wrenches in 5mm increments?
Does anyone make fasteners in these "missing" sizes you seem concerned with? Perhaps a correlation, as I eluded to before.

Yes, generally over 50mm wrenches go up by 5mm to 80mm. I imagine the really big metric bolts are much more standardized than the SAE equivalents.

If you truly need to fill in gaps from 40mm to 80mm, you just need to buy the SAE wrenches as they have the sizes.

what I’m asking is why do metric fasteners come in 5mm skips on bigger side but sae come in 1/16 skips on bigger side

from a friction and engineering perspective if an ideal bolt would have a 45mm head then you still jump to 46 since that’s a standard

but in sae world it seems like if 1 9/16 is an ideal size then they make it 1 9/16 even if 1 5/8 is more common.

i don’t see fasteners with 47 or 48 or 49 heads but I see them in ever 1/16 jump it seems like even on the bigger end

and Tekton makes wrenches in 1mm skips up to 50 but tekton is weird and does stuff like that alot

I paid maybe $150 for my set to 2.5". Something i found on Amazon.

If they don't handle it, I'll go buy the 1 size in a good brand ir just cut one out with steel plate.

1-11/16 Proto on the way from eBay. Still need 1-13/16 and 1-15/16 to complete the set.
Pretty sure I looked into this for no particular reason just out of curiousity what sizes were made and proto stopped there chrome wrenches at 1 9/16 or maybe 1 5/8. It was just a hair over 1 1/2

but they made black finish industrial ones bigger

are you getting old stock before and maybe they used to make chrome or you getting a black oxide finish

I haven't gotten anything black oxide; it's all chrome so far.

1-13/16 Proto on the way from eBay. Just need 1-15/16 and I'm done for now. Unless I start working on the striking wrenches...

EDIT: 1-15/16 seems to be fairly rare. Tekton makes one, but not much available on eBay.

Now only two wrenches away from realizing how much money invested into less used tools.
Been there and really did appreciate having the right tool at the moment.

But after leaving the trades they became a bank account.

It's a fun journey.

Yep, I hear what you're saying. I started off wrenching on a dirt floor in a pole shed with a small hard plastic container of 3/8 and 1/4 drive Craftsman sockets and that ****** raised panel ratchet, and a small metal toolbox full of mismatched ****** tools. Now I'm wrenching in an air-conditioned shop with a fairly good selection of tools, and it's difficult to pass up a tool that I MIGHT need at some point.
