Looking for things to make for the farmers market besides bird feeders, Soma puzzles, and pencil cups. So I made this cedar box just to see how much effort it was:

939.jpg

940.jpgProbably will start making these, but not from cedar. It was tough to adjust the fit because even two strokes of sandpaper takes too much off.

Score another win for the cheap Amazon Chinese carburetors.

IMG_9700.jpeg

Looks exactly like the old one. Installs in minutes. And it started and ran on the third pull of the rope.

Cleaning up from the A/C project. Found the wrong way to remove the clutch assembly from the front. Disassembled the rest of the compressor.

IMG_9701.jpeg

Didn’t find anything wrong inside. It had been making grindy crunchy noises, so I expected some shrapnel. Nothing. So, I don’t know, maybe it was ok? I didn’t find anything wrong inside. Didn’t find any debris in the expansion valve either.

Anyway, the wrong way to remove the clutch and pulley is a three jaw puller and an impact wrench.

IMG_9702.jpeg

I don’t know what the right way is. Looks like the front plate must come off first somehow. Under it, there is a snap ring retaining the rest of the clutch and pulley assembly. With enough force, the snap ring will come off, if the puller holds up.

Swapped cars around to get the Camry in. Will be working on it tomorrow.

Cedar would be the selling point, smells great and keeps bugs away.

Not my vehicle, the owner has 4 kids in college and is on a tight budget.

If it were my vehicle and I was preparing it for the after life, I would do "everything" while I was in there. Peace of mind and efficiency are more important to me than the cost of a few parts.
I hope it was a quality axle…
Not sure if it’s the same on that generation but for my ‘03 Jetta the general consensus on the forums is that the OEM axles are the only things worth putting in/rebuilding, as the Chinese (“Chaxles”) almost invariably fail in short order.

Hooked up the tilt trailer as the avatar beetle is going in for a conversion to alternator. Decided to retrieve the Ford 2000 tractor from storage. Fought the effing Curt Echo bluetooth brake controller and after 90 fun filled minutes quit and went ahead without the controller working. Picked up the tractor, loaded, went past the gas station, filled it up and home. Offloaded and put in the shop. Then proceeded to load up the yellow bug. Did nothing else as my mood was pretty sour. In the 90 minutes I downloaded and erased the app 4 or more times, checked the connection 4/5 times, watched troubleshooting videos, etc. AND yes I'm still pissed.

PS I'm sure it is something I am doing, like always the user!

Can't tell from your photo, but it looks like the upper wheel is missing the urethane bandsaw tire...
That and there should be a tension adjustment mechanism at the axle on the upper wheel...
After digging in a bit yesterday, it does have a rubber layer on the upper wheel. Just grimy and a bit hard. Will work on that and see if I can clean it up.
The tension wheel and what appears to be an alignment adjustment wheel are both there, but gunked up and need cleaning...
Should be a fun project

Does your phone need an update? I know I've had some wonky app based stuff before when I was behind on updates.

Dropped off thread since last Friday... not sure why this time. (only found it after an L-top crash recovery)

How did they contaminate a 2500psi cylinder of argon!?

Very low chance of contamination, standard practice is to pull a vacuum on the cylinders before filling. Are you sure it is labeled as welding grade argon?

Some argon is premix Argon/CO2/Other so maybe not actually contaminated?

I’ve been experimenting with different types of wood for walking sticks and shillelagh. This one is very light, is from a chestnut sapling ( the root ball is in my hand), it is tipped with a short chunk of aluminum pipe, and would be an excellent hiking companion1783747476069.jpeg:

Better pic - this one is 55” long

1783793292024.jpeg

Cool looking stick, but for light weight to strength my hickory sapling stick has been great

Also, put a rubber cane tip on that; a raw wood or metal tip is asking for a slip, and is also noisy AF

I just did a fingernail smash about 10 days ago working on some plumbing. I had to poke a hole in the nail to let the blood out, it doesn't look bad at all now. Sometimes there is a price to pay for progress.

IMG_20260711_205158219_HDR.jpg

I used a heated paper clip to make a hole once. ONCE! Now if I need to drill a hole in a nail I got a nice little pin vise and a sharp bit, nice and slow till it starts to ooze.lol

Done thin many times not, most recently after taking it in to a doctor (intern? she was NOT good... and SWMBO insisted... ) and getting tortured with no relief. did it myself with a sterilized small bit and a pin vise.

Now that I have it figured out, I can probably do it in ten minutes,

So translated: 2 days? :see:

Changed the spark plugs in the wife's 454SS. A much easier task then her wagon! Took about an hour to set gap and swap all eight plugs. Probaby about time to replace the plug wires, damn the MSD wires are quite a bit more expensive than I remember! Probably order them soon, only have a couple weeks to get them done before heading to the Carlisle Truck Nationals. I made them the last time and will do so again but I think I'm gonna change the routing to clean it up better.
Tools needed:

Hardest one to change
IMG_3273.jpg
passenger side even easier

old plugs

So you're saying it's a I-DOT-10-T error? :(

Brakes seem like the absolute worst use case for Blue Tooth.

Mostly yard and parking lot today. I was weed whackin' the verge of the parking lot when I hit a concealed dog turd bomb--nice and fresh, too! Spattered me head-to-toe.

I'm going to get you--and your little dog too!
It’s really effective when the turd is in a nice, thin plastic bag: the whole thing slings like a frisbee until it unloads

What is the deal with these people taking the trouble to pick up the turd in a baggie, but then leaving the damned bag right there?

It's a hazard I've learned to look out for--but this one was bare and hidden in a clump of cheatgrass.

We have the same a**holes here. Why would anyone do that? Instead of the rain and weather eventually washing it away.

One of my pet peeves: I live in a rural area. I really don’t care if someone’s dog takes a dump along the side of the road by my place, but it REALLY pisses me off when they put it in a bag and then either stealthily drop it on the side of the road or worse, throw it in my pasture. In my mind it’s all part of the BS poser environmentalist movement. In town no one wants a dog turd on the sidewalk. In the country many think they will be looked down upon if they don’t pick up the turd, so they do, but they don’t want to carry it home so they toss it, making a very minor issue a much bigger one

End of rant.

Eventually I'm going to spot the A-hole(s) that does this around her, and I plan to follow them home, note the address, and then start picking them up on leaving the baggies on their doorstep, on the windshield of their car, in front of their garbage cans so maybe they step on it in the dark... Oh yes! on their roof!

I thought you were supposed to put it in a paper bag, light it on fire on their front porch and ring the doorbell.

When I worked on a factory construction job in the 70’s several guys decided to have a fart contest. One ended up blasting in his pants and had to ride his motorcycle home 5 miles to change clothes. He got named Spatterpoot after that incident.

A billion years from now after all humans are long gone from this planet because the land has been used up and no longer supports farming, a paleontologist from an alien race will be excavating poop in plastic bags and thinking we didn’t know poop was the most biodegradable substance in the universe and could have been used as fertilizer.lol

Was able to get out to the range and test my new kipplauf* and found that the spring I put in was too weak to eject, and, sadly was to weak to extract, which is what I really wanted, as I hate chasing brass, even .22FB** So! The one shot I was able to take (I had to knock the spent shell out with a cleaning rod, which I had at home. The only one I keep on my is a pull through) was nice, and the double set triggers work wonderfully. So, well worth it as it is a fine rifle. So, now to find a stronger spring that fits, but not too strong, if you know what I mean.

*Kipplauf means, literally, tilt barrel
**.22FB was the caliber marking, which I am taking as .22 flansch boden, or flanged base.
