Yeah, that looks excellent. Congrats.
I've been told to keep wax on it constantly as spray can paint is non-catalyzed and just isn't hard compared to factory paint.

Some activity here:
Finally, red paint on the footlocker project. I'm not overly happy with it. it's much rougher than the prior one I did but as Kay says it's a knock around truck bed box. It'll get a final sand and final coat. That'll have to be good enough. The corners on this thing are pretty rough. The angle iron around the top hides a lot of that. I wire wheeled it, hammered it flat, sprayed silver and it looks ok. I've done nothing to the interior. yet It'll be sprayed with truck bedliner. Then hinges, handles, etc. I won't post a pic of this wavy surface.

The Fiat 500 "toad" has some flaking clear coat but fortunately only on the leading edge of grille below hood. Because the mirror came out nice I'll use the remaining paint to TRY to improve that area. I'm not sure about blending it in with the rest of the paint.
The break at the hood and even a body line below is where I'll try to blend .....but on the sides I expect the repair to show. Oh well. Not sure I have enough paint to do the entire grille. But it's a thought.

Just found out from neighbors there’s a mini 4th of July parade actually thru our residential street tomorrow AM. No Idea why the city isn’t holding one through the “Village” area. Oh well. Last second dressed my truck for it.

They’ll be off the truck the minute the event is over. There’s an “eagle” with “250” on the tailgate. But since the gate isn’t flat it didn’t want to adhere well. Didn’t transfer cleanly so we had to do it by hand. The pieces got stretched and it’s almost comical how it came out. I expect to go outside and see 1/2 of its fallen off!

A couple pics from this mini neighborhood shindig. I know the guy with the '40 Ford. Very nice guy, early 80's, widower. He stopped by my house a year ago with a friend because he saw my truck in the garage. Hadn't spoken to him since. The other guy; his friend passed away suddenly. Sad.

As I write this on a short ferry trip to St. Thomas airport. We’re hearing all sorts of delays in the east due to weather and smoke from Canadian fires. To DC then LA in the wee hours. Pups will be happy.

Last photos of St. John touristy area. All others seem very 3rd world ish compared to mainland.

Numerous delays getting home - extreme weather in East, re-routing flights all over, severe smoke in DC. 3 flights full of people waiting at one gate to board. 9:22pm leave time became 1:15am. Finally home. Pups super happy but 24 hours of traveling is taxing.

Back to Garage Journal stuff:

Left on vacation 7/17 and had a relatively small die-off in a corner of our backyard lawn. 1/2 the size in the left corner of this pic. Didn't have time to treat it.
Came home to find much larger dead areas and the grass growing very unevenly - but still healthy - in other areas.

Mowed at the highest setting, then a bit lower. Heading out for granular insecticide for cinch bugs - something called bifenthrin which is supposed to be ok to spread near my avocado tree - Won't use it under the drip line area though SUPPOSEDLY it's ok to do it there - I don't trust it. We eat those avocados regularly.

If I don't get control of these cinch bugs it'll be on its way to a gravel yard all on its own!
I got the Bug B Gon granules today and spread them with my handheld spreader, watered it in well. But no idea how to tell if it's actually killing off the bugs so I can get some sod to fill the bare spots. I guess I'll try the "coffee can test" I've read about to see. Just gotta find an old fashioned coffee can!

Damn hot here today. Waited til after 8pm to wet sand the footlocker lid from way back in the thread. Only the lid is getting the smooth finish. The edges look crappy but they'll be covered by the perimeter angle iron that came on the box. It looks bright red but is actually the darkest red Rustoleum makes, "Regal Red":

Stainless strap hinges (what it had though rusty & bent). Plus a hasp latch and rusty strap handle. I'd originally planned silver paint and call it good. This slid down a slippery slope: stainless hinges, latches and handles are Chinese stuff - shiny but that's about all you can say for them.

Here are the "AFTER" photos. I like the smaller one I did earlier but that's because it had been my dad's. Not sure what I'll do with this one but I put it in my '55 just for the photo.

I like the texture it has. Lets you know it's actually wood. That's pretty close on the color match too. Red is notoriously difficult. My bikes are a hodge-podge of panels from different bikes that were all the same color yet all a little different to the trained eye.

Thank you! If you see how damn rough it was when I started and the actual **** I used to fill the damaged surface it's surprising I got it as relatively smooth as it is.

The picture of the bigger one looks bright red versus my truck but it's the light. It is actually pretty close. The picture of the smaller one looks closer in color but it was the light that day.

Also today, crawled around on hands & knees pulling dead leaves off our day lilies and the weeds that come up around them.....til it got just too hot to be out there. I usually say you can't tell I did anything at all. Today I took a picture just to show what I'd done before I cleaned it all up:


I had the pups with me and it finally just got too too hot for me and for them. When they began panting we moved into the garage to work on the footlocker. I'll sweat but I won't let them get hot enough to pant, ha ha.

KINDA OFF TOPIC. I posted this on the "WTF Pictures" thread too.

I thought you guys would be interested. Walked through the weekly street fair in Glendora Village tonight and saw this vintage Honda Minitrail 50cc bike WITH TRAINING WHEELS! And they're mounted on some custom made fairly serious steel mounts. Though they are very small caster type wheels.

1st - Any "parent" that wouldn't see what's wrong about this for a child so young it doesn't yet know how to ride a bicycle is a *****.
2nd - My son commented laughingly that, "....maybe it's an adult little person's bike that never learned to ride a bicycle." Yeah, ok so "learning" on a bike capable of 25 to 30 mph so he can fall on his head and get killed? *****.
