Found another pair at a recent estate sale. Not sure I’ll ever use them again but why not?IMG_8290.jpeg

Those are a type of woodworking clamp, but unfortunately that is all I remember about them. After I went through some additional threads, it finally came to me that I had seen those used as miter clamps and confirmed it by searching for that term.

Does anybody know what this is? My grandmother gave it to me and I have no idea. The ring on it tightens and loosened to lithe the metal bar the sockets are attached to telescope. Just trying to get a value.

I think it is a piano tuning tool (called a hammer). Yours appears to have 8 point socket ends for the square tuning pins.

Check out this site.

IMG_20260804_183311.jpgWhat the heck is this thing ?
Looks like it goes in a Sawzall... but the other end has a 1/4" hex drive ..
Only marking is KOBALT &
pat. 6,67,8,959
According to Google:
"U.S. Patent No. 6,678,959 is a granted utility patent titled "Grout removal tool". It was issued on January 20, 2004 (filed on April 27, 2000) to inventor William Phillip and assigned to Midwest Trade Tool, Inc.. The tool—often commercialized as a reciprocating saw attachment for clearing tile grout safely—is designed to fit between tiles to remove old grout without chipping or damaging the surrounding tile edge."

But the picture looks nothing like that, so I suspect someone bastardized it when it broke.

that is the correct patent.
the photo you have defies explanation.

Midwest / Midwest Trade Tool Inc., N57 W13282, Carmen Ave, Menomonee Falls, WI 53051 / https://tiletools.com/ / "Grout Removal Tool" / patent 6678959 Jan 20 2004 William Phillip and Lonnie E. Middleton /

the device is attached to the business end of a reciprocating saw to facilitate removal of grout between tiles. I am confused by the object in your photo,

marketed as the "Grout Grabber" https://tiletools.com/products/grout-grabber-grout-removal

Interesting, I didn't go so far as to look at the drawing, my bad. Could be someone modified it after the fact.

I can't see where the patent or Kobalt markings are, but kobalt on the saw blade bit makes sense. If the patent is on the clamp bit, also makes sense that someone bastardized it together, possibly just to mess with people.

IMG_20260805_211009.jpghard to make out but it does say Kobalt..
The pat. # is on the "blade"

IMG_20260805_211114.jpgIMG_20260805_211031.jpgAnd here's also a look of the 1/4" socket end. .
It sure looks like a factory tool to me .. The blade part is zinc plated and the rest looks like either nice nickel playing or maybe stainless ?

Ahah ! Found It !
Thanks one & all for the clues..
It's part of a set... For brushing - filing with a reciprocating saw.

I'll be damned, I swore I was seeing a socket on the end, for taking a nut off, not for sliding and holding a shaft. I have a couple of brushes for my recip saws but they all have the standard saw end. Nice work picking thru the clues to find it.
