Plans for camping this weekend may be off. What's the point of driving rough and steep roads to a spectacular viewpoint when



the visibility is in the hundreds of yards? I can walk to the most distant tree visible in under eight minutes--and that ain't in a straight line, but following roads.

Any kind of strenuous activity is feeling pretty off the board in these conditions.

As of yesterday, ~750,000 acres are on fire on this side of the Cascades in Oregon alone. Too depressing to check today's fire maps.

Also thinking how glad I am that all those widda' maker Cottonwoods aren't on this property.

Painted the MGB's three windshield wipers before installing new blades. Went thru 4 different black spray finishes before finding one that came close to the new wiper blades black finish.

It went back in way smother that it came out. I may have been a bit hangry or heat affected...



We'll see how much progress I get tommorow... it's been in the high 90's this week and I haven't been working very hard. This thermometer isn't accurate, but it's how I feel....



Growing up in Alaska I'm not very good at dealing with heat. I'd be much more productive if it was 40.

Not very damn much. Hotter than hell here and weird for California that it's humid.
I've been procrastinating on finishing a refurb on a big foot locker thing I found among my recently deceased brother-in-law's things - vacation and too hot. I'd repaired it, tried to improve the surface condition on it (it was terrible). Primed and painted it but it needed a final wet sand on the lid. I did that and I may still spray it tonight though it is still over 90* so the spray doesn't even out well when it flashes too quickly.

Edit to add this pic. It looks bright red but it's actually the darkest red Rustoleum I could find, "Regal Red"

Tore apart the welding cart I made years ago. Never painted it so raw metal against HF red. Cleaned it up a bit, some primer and a coat or two of sunrise red. Almost a match but I just don't care. It's not bare metal anymore. LMAO

Cam sprocket torqued to 45ft/lbs? The Bentley manuals say 33 and that’s been the cause of many catastrophes from the pulley slipping. Franko6 (TDI wizard) on TDIclub has rebuilt a lot of them, and recommends 45ft/lbs.

Laying under the trailer and getting 150 ft lbs on the torque wrench was no joke. I’m happy with the results.

It’s the first, and I think hardest step. The pedal is currently not doing anything, but proving that it fits in place and should work.

Wits this hurdle crossed, I can measure and start planning for the TKX that’s going in. May need some floor pan rework, but should be otherwise straightforward from here.

Of course, it seems easy because I haven‘t done it yet.

Garage/in front of garage/kitchen work.

Bought my boy a 2011 Silverado for his school car. Way nicer than anything I had….Spoiled yeah, but polite, does anything asked of him, straight A’s, tests off the charts.

Dash had typical GM cracks. And loud clunking every time you hit a bump under dash.

So 2 hours later we had dash removed. And fixed the clunking. Battery wasn’t held down under the hood…..

On to the dash repair. The $30 hot staple plastic welding kit might be the best $30 I’ve ever spent on Amazon.

Ouch! I got shingles in my mid-thirties due to an extremely stressful job. Hurt as bad as being stung by a Man o' War, but lasted much longer.

Hope yours is mild and you recover soon. I now get the vaccine so I don't have to go through that again in my dotage.

More detailing work on the '76 MGB.

Cleaned and painted the center console ashtray body with black paint. Then sanded off the old black paint from the flip top and polished. Assembled and installed.

Also, repainted the silver outlines and center tabs of the dashboard air vents. Used a chrome paint pen. Came out pretty good.

Washed the car.

Measured things. Need to call and order TKX and parts.

Switching to a different project, cut up some more scrap wood and discovered that I can’t do basic math.

Making parts that would be one section of a mission style floor lamp. Side vertical posts are 1”x1”. Want a 3” space between them. Caps are to have a 1/4” overhang. So, I cut the caps to 4 1/2” x 4 1/2”. That’s an inch short, because I added 3 + 1 + 1 and got 4.

It’s only scraps, no harm done.

Wrapped up the rewire of the boat trailer. Zero complaints, everything works and is the best version I'm capable of completing. Tinned copper wire, marine heat shrink connectors, connections under the trailer got an additional heat shrink, cold weather 7 pin lead for flexibility with the folding tongue, junction box, every light has it's own designated wire, zero junctions or splices.

New batteries in the dually. They have been on the list, I've limped them along. Killed them 5x doing the trailer wiring/ testing. Low voltage causes CHAOS on the modern truck. I went through it today, "confused" transmission control module, reset, new batteries, the wrench in the dash illuminated, reset it with a battery disconnect then start on, off X2 to reset it. I had lost forward gears at one point which would not be crazy with it tuned/ deleted as it make a ton of Hp and Torque. SHEEESH..$550 for two AGM batteries and some resets and I'm all set.

Maybe the weather/ rain/ thunder storm and ect take a break tomorrow and I get the boat on the water.

Got a warning ticket from bylaw enforcement that I can only hove one covered, unlicensed vehicle on our town property, and at the time I had my '92 Golf Country that I don't drive as it is an untouched and near zero rust survivor - it will get the cover. Also our '03 Jetta wagon - that we don't drive due to fender and tailgate rust. It will join the Miata in the outer shop that once had room for 2 cars, but my box and pan break, shear and rolls all on wheels live in that bay now. Jetta will occupy the emergency work bay and get moved when I need to either move stuff around or work in that bay.

I am not delighted about this, but between us, the family next door and one across the street we have 17 cars and trucks and the obvious congestion no doubt drew bylaw attention. It also means i need to get my chore truck back on the road. In the winter it suffered a lift pump failure and kept getting pushed back for repair by more pressing (i.e. business) demands. I have been wobbling as it has bad rocker rust but I really wanted to make a dropside deck and go air suspension, so this will finally get me off my ***. Box coming off now.

Ive never used that product specifically on purpose, The trailer lights are Trucklite brand and the plugs/ wire leads have it on them. I was going to use Permatex 80370 in the junction box, its a terminal spray, comes out purple in color. The box wont be submerged, it doesn't go in deep enough loading or unloading the boat. It will be exposed obviously while being towed in the rain if that were to occur.

When you say "pack" , pack it full like a wheel bearing? or a generous coat on the studs and terminals?

I got my doctorate ASE certification at YouTube University and went in to a steering column to replace an ignition cylinder.

The original suffered a theft attempt years ago and the chrome "ears" were busted off.

Copious pics to recall re assembly sequence since now i need to wait for a plastic horn button thingy i just ordered. It self decomposed to dust on seeing the light of day.
