Finally found some fun projects! Decades of rust and debris included.

Haven't done much with it yet; pick, wedge, and Williams perfect broom handle B&M in the office soaking. $30 for the lot, some mystery tools but I'd say the Williams is the most interesting to start; proper thick handle, perfect pattern, B&M stamp if I'm remembering right.

Also new coconut pick to match the coconut hammer I got a few weeks ago! Husk and crack for those fresh Ohio coconuts! No more having to using a ground spike(if you know you know) to get the husk off! Also Micro Dunman leather pouch with some slots for something.





Anybody recognize the board? Mystery equipment, aluminium hardware, intact-ish label. Haven't dug in yet but it's good lumber and something weird. We don't get much around here that's not obvious at this point.

Slow day, nothing terribly exciting:

All of this came from a 15-20 street block sale that has less than 1 house per street selling - this used to be a big deal before Covid. 2 others planned and a coupe of TOOs were a bust.

Went back to the tooliferous yard sale (shop sale) with Eprey pricing today, as I had plenty of time to sort through boxes of rusty tools--and hoping the prices might have gotten more reasonable.

$12 for this lot:



The carriage step--which I'm hoping I can make fit the driver's side of The Brick--was $8, so the rest was cheap! P&C 2518 DBE, 9/16" X 1/2", a handy size for older American iron, ornate doorknob for a mortice lockset--I'll clean that up, repaint it and it will be the new inside knob for the pub. Dowel centers, NIB, 1 1/2 lb EE & Co. brass mallet, ACE Professional Gearwrenches, 14mm and 9/16", both of which fill holes on the shop pegboard.

I'll clean up and paint the step, too. Backside has cast-in 1820S with E in a circle beneath. I'm thinking it's cast steel, as cast iron seems like it would have broken at the "neck" in use. Really hoping it can be made to fit the Brick--I can use a step up.

Left behind a MASSIVE vintage Delta pedestal DP. While I'd love to have that in the shop, there is simply no room for it--besides, I have no idea how I'd get it over here. I doubt I could even lift the damned motor on it. The Morse-taper spindle has a tiny bit of play when shaken, but it runs on 120V. Has Sears X-Y attachment on the table for milling---that looks like a real flimsy POS. Asking $225. Probably down to half that tomorrow, but still no way to transport and no where to put it.

Thanks! Sounds about right, seen AB Chance on it. Think it's rated for 60lbs, was in a chicken coop previously so two people before me have had it and neither knew anything about it beyond it was weird enough to not send as shred. I'll know more once I get to trying to make out the labels and all!

I'll have to try it out, lineman's phone is still new in the box so I'll finally have a stand for it by the sound of it!

Also Hubbard loggers wedge apparently. Pulled the old steel wire off so far but that's about it at the moment. Not much needed either beyond a bit of cleaning.

Listening to some Youngs talking while I was eating lunch today. This maxxing, that maxxing, everything maxxing.

Suddenly, it hit me: We aren't weird. We aren't hoarders.

Waiting for rusty tools to come out of the sodium citrate bath in the USC--new, clean batch of citrate.

I dumped the old, copper-contaminated citrate solution that has been sitting in a covered five-gallon bucket for over a year. That stuff ferments and gets pretty rank if you keep it that long. Pyew.

Drove MrsLS and my dad to Union Springs for the annual NY90 50-mile Yard Sale. Not as heavily participated along the route as in some past years, despite (or maybe because of) beautiful weather today. $1ea for a Parker coping saw, S&H slipjoints, Bridgeport Hybar doe, Bonney dbe, wood-handled multitool, APCo Mossberg 1/2dr ext. $3ea for small LSS center square and Mephisto 4N1 hatchet/wrecking bar.

Leftbehinds included several large HD Smith PerfektHandle monkey wrenches (only $3ea but I couldn’t figure from my incomplete notes which sizes I already have, and I’ve kind of run out my interest in them), a flimsy filthy rusty file cabinet (only $1 but I got a beefy clean one for $5 at our first stop), and a “Grasshoppers” album (vol2) reminding me of a Merry Crickets album from childhood.

Well gang, I kept it very simple today. Found a nice Par-X hard handle screwdriver at my favorite variety shop because I happened to be in town. They get truckfuls of everything you can imagine so it's hard to leave empty-handed.

It's my first time seeing one of these and I think it is very nice.
It cost one whole dollar.


Then I very uneventfully went home and did not even consider doing more shopping today. No siree, not today.

Alrighty, the truth comes out. The shop's sister location was doing a warehouse cleanout event. Fill a box for $25. I browsed for barely a minute before forking over some bills. This box was shared by the household and all the junk we tossed in needs more sorting, but I pulled a couple things out to post.


Turns out I can't usually find SK sockets because they all migrate to that warehouse. Some bins took on some water which made this into a fishing trip.
But hey, pretty neat haul. Even if I feel like I'm going to faint.

Went to the steam up today with my wife and son and had a fun time.

picked up this Plomb dual mark panel today #40B. Oregon Rock Crusher was nice enough to spot it and secure it prior to my arrival! It's had a rough life but its dual mark so I'm really happy to get it , especially at the paltry price I paid! As you can see it was a victim of the rebranding campaign at some point but the sticker has since came off over the years. ORC said the seller said when he put it into his barn it was in really nice shape but as you can see the years (or prior owner) haven't been the kindest but I know I can revive it quite a bit.

From recently retired mechanic at Kodak lightening his load for his move to Florida, I was the only one there so had lots of time to dig. Armstrong DBE metric wrench set one with one end ratcheting, missing one wrench. Proto 3/8" ratchet.

Good seeing you at Steam up Smoke, It was a very good day for the show. I didn't even realize you slipped me an extra bill at the time and I didn't expect it but I do appreciate it. Thank you. As for my finds here are a few pics. The Red Devil paint shaker, a small green metal clad box, a Yost pattern makers vise, and a few hand tools. Also quite a bit of hardware at dirt cheap prices. I love all the activity at that show and the opportunity to talk to so many exhibitors. Ed.

Proto GMTK with case, about 75% complete was this morning’s $100 marketplace score. Main missing pieces are some pliers and the SAE wrenches. Just getting a good pelican case for that seemed like a really good deal however.

Pretty good weekend picking! 3 sales Saturday with 2 producing. Then today I scored a market place deal that I’ve been waiting since Friday to pick up. Not the greatest communication from the seller. And finally the flea market today, I only got 1 item but it is a good one. Here’s what I got,

2 Milwaukee screwdrivers
Gerber multi-tool like new
Chapin & Stephen’s co no. 86 folding ruler with a steel rule that makes it a square
Older box of red wire nuts

Snap on flip sockets 19-21 and 3/4-13/16 I already found the extension on the bay
Snap on deep impact 1”
Snap on flex spark plug socket 13/16”
2 Craftsman circle H machinist hammers, very nice
Kreuter needle nose with fancy handles


The market place score was $100 for Snap on KRA-61C 9 drawer chest. It’s covered in some kind of paint that didn’t want to clean off very well. Full of tools most of which will get re-sold but there was some good stuff I’ll hang on to.
Still need to clean her out but here’s a few shots.


And finally from the flea market a whopping $1 I got a 1/4” Craftsman BE amber handle breaker bar. Pretty good condition. My first amber handle find!

Sooo close. Added in 2 missing sockets and 2 - 3/8" converters, which I have no idea if they go with the set, but they fit. Now just short the 13/32" (13M). I guess it's the hunt, not the capture. I've got extra 1/4": 6m, 8, 10, 11 if you're looking for one.

I want to be the first to say Patrick ***** for the amber handle for a dollar.

Hopefully it won’t crack within a year like mine has. I have had 3 pieces with no cracks when I got them crack within a year. They were stored indoors at 73degF with humidity between 30-40%.

Here is my hall from a citywide garage sale, most of it from the first stop. It was an estate sale house clean out, and I don't think they had any real buy-in on the value of things. I was okay with that. There was a Kennedy stack full of odds and ends of a machinist life. I decided I really didn't want to take everything and have to sort it out cuz I'll never use all the cutters and things but I tried to grab the better stuff out of the boxes. Left to right is a package of files, a package of Grobet, USA and other rifflers a whole bunch of countersinks in 82⁰ and 90°, two big machinist parallel clamps and unmarked 6-in divider, couple of tri corner scrapers, Korea clamp that got thrown in the trash, Robbjack ab1000 slitting saw arbor, Jacob's 34 drill Chuck, couple of Allen and torx keys, an SPI indicOL indicator. The box bottom is filled with a couple of stones, a Belzer DBE, a couple of general and a PB Swiss machinist marker, unmarked wire cutter, unmarked snap ring pliers, couple of whatsits at the bottom, a made in India tap handle (seems nice quality), Ace tap handle, Craftsman, Japan and unmarked tap handles, bunch of taps. The Lansky sharpener set and the universal stand came from a second sale. The Junkunk Bros lock, unmarked stud extractor, possibly home made, (and so old that there is a male socket wrench stud )w ball retainer, box of wood screws, and knob came from a third.

We had a celebration of life to attend yesterday so I checked out an early sale solo yesterday morning. It was a repeat from last year with a few more tools added so I picked up a few items. A fairly complete Mac metric 1/4” drive set missing the 10mm short socket and spinner.
Some S-K pieces.
A Thorsen made Powr-Kraft 3/8” to 1/4” adapter.
A #1 Craftsman Phillips driver that was in with the Mac tools. I’m trying to stay away from Craftsman but I couldn’t avoid this one.
My neighbor spotted a late estate sale listing and picked up an item for me that I was pretty excited about. It was a very early TT in a circle marked 1/2” drive Thorsen speeder, likely from the early ’30s. It didn’t even have a part number just the TT logo apparently first used in 1931.

Regrettably I wasn't able to fully pick and dig at the steam up as I had my wife and son with me who were rapidly approaching the end of their picking limits so I went through quicker than I would have liked. But this isn't always a bad thing as I was able to come home with minimal finds
