I got a screw in my tire driving to work on Friday, so I plugged that. Then I grabbed some 2x4's at Lowes and threw together some wheel cribs.

20260726_214138.jpg

A few years ago, I built some wooden wheel cribs, too. Figured since I was building some I might as well film a video and post it to my YouTube channel. Not sure why, but the video really took off -- almost half a million views and has put a few thousand $ in my pocket. Odd that so many people want to watch me cut and screw together a few 2x4's.

Started on building a pair of bird feeders. All they need now is roofs.

Decided to take a break from that and switch to firewood reclamation. Look at this pretty block of red oak I saved from the stack:

The end grain has almost no curve. The tree must have been enormous:

My F250 has frame mounted fuel filter.
I have found if I pull the fuel pump fuse and crank it a couple times filter removal is a fairly dry process.

Not much fuel comes out.
Around 30k is when I service the filter, spare one sitting on the shelf.
Good idea! I'll try that next time! Clamp on the upstream side of the filter, of course.

But you have a lift?

Some of the suspension bushings have through bolts which are supposed to be torqued when the car is sitting at ride height.

In the past I would use ramps in the front and then try to stack blocks of wood, bricks or whatever I had laying around to try to get the car level. The wheel cribs make it a lot easier to do.

put an ssd in an old laptop fired it up and she slowwwwly came online, battery not charging but holding steady left it on overnight will know later. Fiddled on sketchup and fired up the 3d printer printing a soap bottle for the neighbors ryobi scrubber, 1st time using translucent filament, anxious to see the finished piece

Not really. I'm usually down there everyday. Vertigo and an intestinal bug has forced me to be bedridden since the 2nd.
I feel your pain Kay. I've been similarly down since early June with a lower leg infection which isn't healing. So, I'm supposed to be keeping my leg elevated........ugh. Plus, my wife watches me like a hawk to ensure I kinda obey docs orders. Of course, this also means no boating/fishing due to possible worse infections. :(

Maybe argue that it is easy to keep the leg up while boating and fishing?

I probably watched your video. It's a simple concept, but it was interesting to see how different people constructed their wheel cribs.

The problem with being on the salt water is the probability of getting the infected area wet and the risk of worse infection with vibrio(not something to mess with). Check out some videos/pictures of that if you're not familiar with it.

Installed a garage door opener that I got two or three years ago for Xmas. I've lived at my current house since 2018 and haven't had powered garage doors. Never really bothered me too much. I'll get around to the second garage door sometime soon (lol). It's nothing fancy just a Genie belt drive you can get at any big box store. I am pleasantly surprised how quiet it is.

I was kinda hoping to have built up my resistance to the fatigue by now, that I could get the boat in the water for an hour. As it is, with the vertigo, one jolt from a wave and I'd be trapped in a running boat, unable to control it. Not happening.

Usual chores. Got back to the tavern head rebuild project--then found that the brewers didn't feel it necessary to tell me we were out of beer nut gaskets. It takes three to swap out two heads and I just happened to have six stashed away. Ordered a hundred more. So I replaced two this AM and will do two more this afternoon--just waiting for them to come out of the USC.

We had three sous vide machines--I think about the cheapest money can buy--and I was notified that two were not working.

Well, there's your problem right there:

55422648407_76c3841f4b_b.jpg

Scale from our lovely hard water. That one is toast as the elements are burned out due to being buried in the scale, an effective insulator. It appears that Inkbird (the maker of these) doesn't sell the elements and I'm not finding any other sources, so to the round file it goes.

This one was very close:

55424272439_661496dd9f_b.jpg

but it cleaned up nicely

55424020709_f6925b9a9b_b.jpg

and is now working fine--probably better than it has in a long time.

I got two out of three back up and running. I used the same sulfomic acid I use to descale our Rinnais, but I've asked the kitchen to run them in white vinegar for an hour each week. That should keep them scale-free.

Got together with some co-conspirators after work and decided to address a serious threat to our American cousins back east. We learned of a massive Communist threat from Canadian Freedom-hating smoke invading over our borders. Can't have that!

Got together with some Jewish friends and borrowed their laser satellites to alter the winds a bit.

So we're sending you a nice, clean, grass-fed, free-range, non-GMO, all-Western-American plume of Freedom Smoke!

Customer states:

Swamp cooler seems to be leaking.

55424639541_8d464a3b36_b.jpg

Damned good diagnosis!

Polyethylene tubing had to be about the worst choice for this. PE is near-opaque, which is sub-optimal for a sight glass. PE has 0 UV resistance, which is less than desirable for something that sits in the sun.

55425038825_d4c4ef340c_b.jpg

The sun-rotted PE came out in little pieces--until the part that was inside the pushfit. That was a bit of a fiddle. UV-resistant PVC to the rescue!

We have a big brew day coming up tomorrow, so all critical equipment needs to be on-line and healthy--and one of our Rinnais just up and quit. Rinnai is absolutely critical.

After a bit of diagnostics, I found and fixed the bug:

55424738831_d2d29f60d1_b.jpg

Quite literally.

How the hell a moth got inside of a totally sealed hot water system is a puzzle. Sure, it's vented, but the vent is screened with mosquito netting.

Hopefully, that's all for today.

Front attachment for a Surron e-bike.

Parts got powder coated, picked up, and installed.

20260727_134408.jpg

And even though the owner of said bike lives 3hrs away, he still made it out today to pick it up and allow me to get measurements for the next two projects.

20260727_134729.jpg

Installed.

20260727_182908.jpg

And since I intentionally designed this as a modular setup, it allows the end user to attach any other panel of their choice.

20260727_183205.jpg

I'll knock the rest out after I get back from Nevada next week as I'll be heading out soon.

Right on about eight o'clock post meridian, PDT, the power went out. About five or so years ago, PP&L set all their breakers to "paranoid". This cost us tens of thousands of dollars--if the power goes out, the pub shuts down, which, this time of year, might be a ten G night. If we're brewing, it could ruin a batch or the entire run--again, 10 + K bucks. Those power outages could last for hours, to the point of threatening food stored in our coolers and beer fermenting under controlled conditions. Maybe I'm just gun-shy--but I was really hoping it wasn't one of those again. Turned my earbuds to radio... FM... NPR (National Pinko Radio) comes in fine, so it's just local. My cell phone is down because Google decided to update it to "don't work", so that's my best way of finding out how far the outage reaches. Power came back on just now. Whew.

In other news, these showed up today:

55423939187_f067e7c92b_b.jpg

Coofandy? Because Coofandy spells quality! Or maybe just dirt cheap Chineseium ****. Anyhow, fresh, obnoxious Aloha shirts for work and play!

Gotta finish restoring my damned phone... never liked those things anyway.

Looks like it's been pretty smokey up your way from perusing the GOES pictures.
Uh, yeah. Yesterday (we're closed today and tomorrow) I was explaining to tourons at the bar that we really do have mountains right over there. Can't see **** except for the air. The air is clearly visible. And tastes funny.

Yesterday I rode my exercise bike, adjusted the rear brakes on my Mustang & glued down the garage door threshold for one of the garage doors. The second one will get done when there is no rain forguessed.

Cleaned up the glue job on the steering wheel knob on the rider, added a bit of engine oil, and cleaned the foam prefilter. Moved that to the shed. Moved the push mower out under the awning. Enlisted my Mrs to help move the 4Runner into the shop. Towed it in as close as we could with my car, mower wouldn't pull it in the rest of the way, so we had to push. Took a bit of sweat but it is inside. Sprayed down a few bolts with penetrating oil. Will start on it Wednesday after work or Thursday. This ratty thing is blocking my view.

So I needed to replace the gasket/washer on my oil pan bolt on my diesel truck, 15qts which I just changed...I didn't want to lose much or have to shove my finger in the hole and swap the gasket...so I tried the vacuum trick, worked like a cham, not a drop lost.

Yesterday both EGR parts came in - three days early! - I installed the Vacuum Solenoid Modulator EGR Valve - and it passed my smell test. also its no longer super boggy coming off the line from a dead stop. Not that this van is or ever will be more than a gutless wonder, but it is at least as good as it was before.

Today I took it in to be tested and I was right and this AM is passed smog easily. (bad NOX)

the other BVSV part is getting added to my road parts box as its only a matter of time...

I was irritated the local parts store had no parts for this and I had to go to Eprey for them - That is getting more and more common. My smog guy agreed.

ALMOST finished the foot locker refurb I've been working for a month. Interior to be sprayed with truck bed liner. Paint finalized, stainless hinges, latches & handles installed. Original angle iron lid protector was just repainted silver. See my Glendora Garage thread if interested in the gritty in-process shots.

More SWAD (Scrap Wood Aided Design).

Router bullnose bit works nicely. A flute down the middle afterward cleans it up.

IMG_0168.jpeg

I had a scrap of 1” x 1” oak left over from my ottoman project, used that to see what the edges will look like.

IMG_0170.jpeg

I found some cedar 1x6 leftovers from my Adirondack chairs. Used that to make a sample top and bottom, router cut the edge patterns I like it.

IMG_0172.jpeg

Not sure what to do with the top, though. The lights assembly will be mounted to it. Still thinking about that piece.
