Nice finds Alinc! Those stainless are tough to find!

Just getting into the package I shipped during my Buffalo trip.

PART 3 Buffalo tool finds. July 4th had been relaxing at the old flea, but the 11th was a whole different story. Several vendors brought a lot of tools to dig through, which is exactly what I was hoping to see on my second consecutive Saturday visit! I was more than satisfied with the pickings that day.

-Craftsman vanadium 3/8 breaker and unfinished Williams socket (not in main photo). I was thrilled to find the breaker in a pile of tools. I found some nice vanadium stuff there a hear ago on the last visit.

Running errand during the week put me near several of the better Restores this week, where I found the following (in no particular order):

30A knife switch, misc. sockets (Blackhawk, Snap-on, Billings), (4) drawer trays

P&C fixed 1/2" speeder, APEX bit driver, Stanley nut drivers, Xcelite nut driver, Snap-on Brace, Bondhus ball driver, Toyota flat head. I don't remember the prices, but cheap all together.

Checked CL for garage sales "within 3 miles of 98407". Hit five different places. Only three had anything I wanted to bring home:

Coleman lamp (220F195 Mar 1970) in box with two spare mantles and about 3/4 of a gallon of gas
New "Cen-Tech" (China) 50/10/2 battery charger for my buddy so I don't have to loan him mine again
New "Pan Am" promotional "mini suitcase" and a couple little leather bags
Generic no-name crate opener which looks remarkably similar to the "Mephisto" that @LesserSon just found - has the same odd-shaped "Pad" on the handle, but no logo stamped there.
Irwin wood-handle screwdrivers
Tiny leather mallet
Ancient little can of "National Distributing Company" "Hose and Bibb Washer and Screw Assortment" "60 assorted pieces price 60 cents"
(stuffed full of hose washers, o-rings, and other little round seals)
Home-made grinder made from a Westinghouse 1/4 HP motor and a what appears to be an early Craftsman arbor, which I just noticed is missing one of the oil cups.
Craftsman 2-drawer carry box with an assortment of mostly Asian import oddballs. I noticed a few gems that will get shipped out to members, and a couple items I might keep. I was just after the box (as though I need more tool boxes.)

I spent way too much money this morning. All in: $60

Facebook Marketplace from a couple nights ago. I had been watching this lot just because of the Craftsman ratchet. Turns out it was missing a screw, screw turned out to be a 6-32x 5/8" easy enough. The price dropped dramatically and I bought it with only one pic, nothing under the tray was pictured but the good stuff was on top anyhow.

CL freebie deal

Briggs & Stratton "Quantum" engine (late production) - complete motor with drive hub.
He was going to "repair" it so he bought a full gasket set - which he never used.


Oh wait.... I'm not seeing a carburetor-to-bowl gasket in that mess, but that will certainly save me some money on crankshaft seals!

It's no thing... I'm sure I've got a few Chinese carbs out in the garage and I'll just slap one of those on and flip this thing as soon as I get it mounted on a deck, although lawnmower sales here in August are painfully slow.

A lady who I had previously purchased items from recently contacted me via FB messenger and said she had some literature I could have. Since it was right down the street I took a chance and grabbed it. The property was a quarry in the 1800's and when her family purchased it her dad was still cutting rocks. A bunch of cool old manuals and whatnot. If anything interests anyone let me know and I'm sure we can work something out.

But....
When I got it home and got it onto the patio, I pulled all the drawers out of it so I could see if there might be some odds and ends stuck in behind them, and of course there were, one of which was a 4" x 6" card with the word "FREE" written on it in big letters with a felt marker.
So I have to wonder:
Is this another textbook case in which an individual put an item out on the curb with a "FREE" sign on it, but couldn't get any takers, but when he listed it on CL with a price on it, some fool bought it?
Or am I just imagining that?

It is kind of nice - built of chipboard, so it's monstrously heavy. I'm hoping my buddy will want it, but I may be able to get it to fit into my "plan" for the garage. It needs wheels, though. And a new top.

A guy I used to work for did that He discovered it was rare for Free items to be taken on CL, so he'd post them for like $5 and they would be gone real quick.

I know it took several weeks for the smoker I put out for free to finally be taken.

Yes and no. Personally I hate chipboard, because it falls to pieces in this climate unless you dope it up good and proper and get it all sealed up.
I'll put it on wheels so it can be rolled around.
I'm going to go over to Earthwise and find a chunk of 1-1/2" fir "butcher block" I can use to put a new top on it - the case itself is stout enough it would put up with a bit of pounding on.
The drawers are steel and are on rollers, so I'd imagine they'll be fine with tools in them.
The lower section is open, but there are Knape & Voight strips on both sides, and there's one shelf in there with brackets, so that section can be used for storage.
As I said, if my buddy can't use it - he's in a teeny-tiny house - I'll figure out how to get it to fit out in the garage.

Slow day for planned stops. both were a bust. TOOS were more plentiful but only two produced...

R9 Welders Vise Grips, for $2 and a wood handled Millers falls stubby that should clean up OK for a buck. that was all.




Left behind was a very rusty 2 drawer Pressteel roller with no rollers. I didn't even ask how much.

Well as I was leaving work yesterday I was joking with my co-worker, he's been busy after work and weekends making small modifications, refurbishing his deck,etc. I told him ,I'd make him a deal, if he took it easy and didn't work too hard this weekend, I wouldn't buy any tools. Fast forward to yesterday evening and a Facebook ad popped up,and well....I didn't keep my end of the deal.

A few sales listed today, none promising. The first sale was billed as a moving sale and there were no interesting tools in the front yard. I asked the seller about tools and he took me into the house and allowed me to go through a large Harbor Freight looking box. Unfortunately, only the roller was unlocked and he couldn’t find a key for the upper box. I found a few things in the roller. An Irwin clamp, tap, dies, tap holders and an Adjustable clamp.
I requested that he continue to look for the key for the chest and I would swing back by. The next two sales were busts and at the fourth I found an old Makita charger, a hose nozzle and a couple of metal signs for the cabin (not pictured).
A Tahoe Keys sale was a bust and after swinging by the Post Office we returned to the first sale. He hadn’t found the key but came up with some kind of lock picking tool for circular key locks and opened the chest. I added a few more items to the original finds. A small Craftsman bag, some DeWalt saw blades, a Snap-on multi tool, a couple of soft hammers, some US made files, a German DOE and some hacksaw blades.

It is kind of nice - built of chipboard,

After dragging it out, removing the drawers, giving it a bath, and then blowing it off, I discovered that it's not made out of chipboard - it's mostly 3/4" plywood.
I found four 250 lb rated casters at HF on the way home earlier for $4 bucks a pop! Woohoo!

Not a common piece, much more unique than the average ratchet, and with it and an extension you have a good speeder.

Similar to a Wilton baby vise. There are a lot of them out there but demand is very high.

A quick trip across the village to our local car boot sale proved to be pleasingly productive.

Three Elora W. Germany metric short series offset DBEs.
Draper "Expert" 6mm combo.
Williams "Superslim" 6x7mm DOE.
Robuck 3/8" 125mm extension.
Four Kraft M.A.N. metric combos. There were others but they were rusty.
Garringtons "Kestrel" offset DBE. Dated 6/57. I can't resist the birds.
Bahco "Ergo" 150mm/6" adjustable.
Weralit screwdriver. Love the green handle.
J Berry & Sons (of Widness) nippers. Established in 1899. These my be of WW2 vintage and have what may be a UK broad arrow stamp.
Unbranded cutters/strippers just marked West Germany and so pre 1989.
Knipex duckbill pliers. Marked W. Germany and so as above.
Calipers. These were a bit rusty and I assumed that they would be Moore & Wright but they're not. They are stamped with HAKESHA?... There may also be be the remains of a UK broad arrow stamp.



The most unusual/interesting item is this Crescent L25 thin jaws pair of pliers. Marked "Special" by the pivot. I assume that the special refers to the fact that they are not nickel plated as the L25 would normally be.

£5.50 all in.

Ran some errands in the morning, and after that had time to hit the sales. Sadly, there was nothing of interest in my town, or the surrounding area, so I went a little farther afield

The first two sales had some rusty junk that I liked: Blackhawk 500 brace, early leatherette pouch with three knives, cast iron file handle from the first sale, while the second (a barn clear out) was were I found a MT2 bit and ENCO 6" chuck.

The final sale I made it to was the second afternoon of an estate sale, so they were starting to clear things out cheap, and I found the 27mm DIN, 9-14mm unnamed USA combos, Tam-o-Shanter hone, bridge lamp arm (I have been looking for one of these ever since one of our cats broke the one next to my chair), Merritt dykes (Sears lower brand pre-Dunlop), Channellock nippers with long handles, Chrome Vanadium USA extension, SK diamond 3/8" socket box with tap wrench and taps, and a Colton file card (missing the pin). Everything here, from all three stops, cost me $18.

The three knives will get cleaned up, sharpened, and will replace the rubber handled knives in my various Klein electrician's snips double pouches, while the chuck will get de-rusted, cleaned, lubed and I am not sure if I will move it along or mount it too my Dalton, even though it is a bit too big. The Blackhawk might be the one I need for my early, wood box #10 set, and the generic metric combos are going to a friend of my wife's who, since she split with her long term boyfriend (who wasn't very handy) has shown an interest in being able to do a lot of the things around her house and car that I get roped into doing for her by my wife.

Trip to the flea market and 2 yard sales today. Pretty slow at the market but I did get a 24oz Blue Point ball peen on original Snap on handle for a $1.




Only 1 yard sale had any goods. I got this Snap-on metric 12 point and 6 point mix set. The caddy is for KTA-230 12 point set. Thumb wheel ratchet assist and F-731 3/8 ratchet. A little sloppy but useable all for $8. It was funny he had a 40 piece chinesium craftsman set for $40 a few shelf’s away! I’ll take it!!

Good marketplace haul this morning. Really large set of brand new unused Wright wrenches for $75. Met/SAE wrightgrip combos/open ends sets/flare nuts, offset boxed SAE, couple jumbo singles, some new pliers etc.
