While all this wiring and "body" work is going on I know the compression is low on this lil 318, leads me to a hard decision, do I just stroke a 318 out to a 390 option A, option B is build a stroker 360 into a 426 with about 11.5-1 compression or option C just go ahead and build a 512 big block and drop in it.

If its not one thing, it's another...

I once had that happen to 4 belts in a row on one of my portable belt sanders. I guess the belts had been in storage too long. Frustrating.

Yep. The glue has a shelf life. I stopped buying in bulk because it wasn't saving me money.

Yeah, I thought this might have been an old belt but it wasn't. It was a belt from HF, probably not the best quality but it was readily available when I needed some.

Yes, that was a consideration for me as well....low use tool...

I stopped stocking more than a couple of extra belts due to joint failures from too long between usage.

So..... You're saying I *might* have a problem with the belts that I bought with my Shopsmith disc/belt sander in 1985 and have never used? :willy_nil

While installing the new bumper yesterday, I noticed that the tags on my license plates were four months expired!

Now, I know I did the registration when I transferred the title back in December, as I recall the gal at the office warning me that the rates were going up on the first of the year and telling me I could pay now for the current rate.

Spent a few minutes digging through the not-quite-yet over-packed glove compartment and indeed, there's the little plastic envelope with the new tags. Whew. Installed.

Guess it's a good thing I live in a small town in a small (population) county.

Hot and smoky outside. Not quite so hot and smoky in the shop. Just puttering on simple, low-exertion chores. AQI looks to be 168 right now. Swamp cooler does seem to do a decent job of reducing the smoke in the shop. I really notice it when I wander outside.

Continued working on AC install today. I got most of the inside work done and packed some 5/8" foam backer rod in the gaps at the top and bottom from the outside. Still need to install drip edge and trim on the outside, and put away things I stacked on the workbench. I set the temp to 80 degrees F and ran it for a couple of hours while I was working out there. AC works great and is much more comfortable working out there now.

There isn't a day goes by that I have a customer that doesn't understand how tags work..
I get "you mean I have to pay for tags too to get my car inspected"
" They never sent it to me" did you renew online "Yes" You needed to click on the button and print it out. "I don't have a printer"
"Do I have to do that every year?" ...Yes
And then the insurance card
"It's on my phone" Are you leaving your phone because I have to drive your car for inspection and need to have proof you have insurance...
And again "They didn't send me one" Not my problem you need to have one in your possession in this state to operate your car.
All your paperwork is expired..."Yea I know I don't have time to do it".....

And my all time favorite
"You charged me for Inspection and I didn't get a sticker." Yep it's the same price pass or fail you have 4 bald tires, a exhaust leak like there is no muffler on the car, a broken windshield, the left front door doesn't open from inside or outside the car and you have a Check Engine light on surely you must have known about at least some of that stuff.......

About the only thing I have done in the garage is shoot a couple new (to me) air pistols. I have had to be places at 7am, so my normal shop time was interrupted, and the heat and humidity has made me not want to be down there in the evening.

Oh, I also knocked over a full cup of coffee down there, so I got to clean that up.

How well does that lift move in the grass?
Pretty well if things are dry, but it only moves about right in front of the shop to load/unload machines or inside. I have stabilized the ground with crusher run and let the IMG_3807.jpeggrass grow through it. Here is a pic at my storage trailer in another town as I was moving things to the shop after remodeling the building.

1st of maybe 3? coats of poly/ stain combo. Mounted my dedicated outside vise I snagged for pretty cheap. I'm basically sacrificing it, but will attempt to keep it protected. It ended up where it is in the middle of the table so I could through bolt it. The corner would have been all lag bolts, which certainly would have failed. So here we go..

From the side shot I see it has pneumatic tires :) from the rear it looked like cushion rubber.
And they have rolled less than 2 miles since they were installed about 9 years ago at whopping price of $280 for the set when I took the wheels in to the tire shop. When it stays outside for more work room in the shop I keep it parked on pressure treated plywood or the weight will sink it a bit over a few days.

Those old Webleys are fun! I've had several over the years, both Tempests and Hurricanes.

Cranked up the welder and started back on the roof rack. Only problem was I started this cluster while we were at the RV park and now all the parts pieces are mixed up. Sharpie lables are faded a bit. Nothing a 80 grit sanding disk can't handle. Got 4 hours into it and gave in to the heat. More today.

Just for clairity I have no intention of parking this truck in the garage because Truck. LMAO

Ta-da!
This cabinet got finished assembly, drawer slide bearings oiled, and placement into position this morning around 7. Another cabinet goes on top of this one when the paint on both dries a bit more. You can see the waterline after the flood rise to 5 feet and then dropped and stayed at that indicated level for about a week. After 27 years this cabinet was the one of the last of the flood affected shop items to be refurbished.IMG_1821.jpeg

Damn I need to get back in shape. trying to do anything in this humidity just saps me, i'm smoked in like an hour.

I just spent the last hour cleaning the filter and pump system in my koi pond. I never would put one of these in, but it was here when we moved in and I could never bring myself to getting rid of it.

So now i'm sitting in the garage with a fan on me, drinking some water, perusing the news of the morning.

This fan is on the hit list for this weekend too. Gotta big new one to put up. See if I get that far. You need to clean this mess up and get these cars out of here.

The goofy led panel? ok i guess. It been up they're since before I put the new LED lights in. Probably don't need it anymore. I find they kinda **** out prematurely.

Hey, think I needed a new edger blade? Lol. Knock that off the list today.

Liquid Coleman fuel unless contaminated has an indefinte shelf life in the can or in the tank - I have used fuel over 50 years old.

That's propane I believe he's talking "white gas" camp fuel., Coleman fuel (essentially pure naphtha)
I’ve had old cans of Coleman fuel rust out at the bottom seam, and drain all the fuel. Not sure if they rusted from the inside (condensation from heat/cold cycles) or from the outside.

Quite a surprise when you go to refuel the (obviously) rarely used lantern or stove and the can of fuel you opened but barely used is bone dry.

How is condensation getting into a sealed can? Maybe storing them on the dirt floor of the shed has something to do with it?

Wasn’t sealed. I had poured some out years prior to make sure the lantern still worked, then put the can on the concrete floor of an unheated shed.

I didn’t really look at it, and tossed it.

I’ve had the same thing happen with 5 gallon steel snowmobile fuel cans and the “classic” five gallon cans motor oil came in back in the fifties, and had been repurposed as gas cans.

I had a plastic gallon jug of "lamp fuel" for kerosene lanterns split and dump the full gallon on the floor. Plastic jug, not metal, but it was full and unopened and only a couple of years old and stored in a dry cool shop. I found some metal cans for the rest of the similar fuel I had on the shelf and now I wonder how long to trust them.

And having said that I ran the headache rack right dead into the fricking garage door. Holy I'm an idiot.
Medium damage to the bottom rail. Fix is done but rubber seal wont go back in. Gorilla Gue on the way.
It's didn't take long for the first building screw up.
