Lets make an all vintage Snap-on tool picture thread!

I scored two older snap-on pieces (for less than a gas station coffee) last weekend. One is a Ford door handle remover and the other is a slotted screwdriver with a 21.5" blade. Anyone care to guess which is which based on just the pics?

Plucked this screwdriver out of a box a house liquidator brought to the flea this morning. I am very fond of this style. Like a shorter version of a heavy-duty machinist's type, with a through shank. Very robust. Fits well in the hand and will turn large screws. The edge of the ferrule is a little dinged up (which I will carefully tend to with a file) and the handle is a little worn, but pleased with the find. They introduced the No. 153 in 1934 and it was discontinued by 1949. No catalog lists a suffix "A" version, but I am pretty sure it was made in that timeframe. Probably by Bridgeport or Stanley, if I had to guess.

If it hadn't said Blue Point, I would have guessed Stanley Hurwood.

Agreed, Beemer, as I alluded to here...

...but one feature of Stanley "Hurwood" drivers is the finned through-shank.

Here is one, at the bottom, same OAL as the Blue-Point I just found, and looking very similar, but not identical. The others are Bridgeport "Matchless," longer models, but looking more similar in the ferrule, and, no finned through-shank. (The older "Matchless" at the top does have a hex shaped through-shank, same purpose as the fins, as you know, to prevent the handle from turning off the shank.) I do have the same stubby size "Matchless" somewhere as the Blue-Point 153A and the Stanley "Hurwood", that I would've preferred for the comparison photo, but I can't find it at the moment. I suspect it's in my daughter's apartment. (The hazards of reaching for vintage tools as users. )

Then again, the "Matchless" are square shanks.

So, perhaps they did source from Stanley, just not "Hurwood" or not including that feature.

Snap on TM10DG pull bar. 1/4 inch drive. probably would date 1945. Notice how the "T" in the model number was added. So this started out as a M10DG pull bar. Very hard to find.

Snap on S8655, S8655A, S8655B Ford carburetor sockets
The S8655 is listed in the 41 and 42 cat. As a Ford Chandler Groves valve socket
The S8655A, I cannot find in the cats, probably about 44 has four prongs instead of the two
The S8655B shows up in the 50s as a Ford Holley valve socket (much different) than the C-G ones

Picked up a Snap On TE-25-FU SER# 1017 3/8” Drive Torqometer today. It also came with a manual but I think the manual is for a different torqometer…
I believe the manual is 1970 while the 3/8” drive torqometer looks newer than that… it will look nice added into the back of the 1962 Rampy…

I don’t expect to see interesting Snap On stuff when I roll into the flea at the time I did but nice surprise today. VERY reasonable prices. The no. 7 rat was pretty rough but original drive piece was fine. Don’t know what’s going on with the socket screwdriver… modified SD-4 maybe? It’s about the size for a drag link. 37 dual rat below the sockets really clean.

1941 date, it's between the On/Off.

I would say user modified. That looks brass brazed from here. I've seen ratchets in various brands modified just like that with a wood knob. Could be related to a business but I don't think it came out the SO factory that way

Thanks for finding the code - my old eyes thought that symbol was just a "this way on <-> this way off sign!
Got the knob off without breaking the screw. It was really on there!
It does look like a user job; here's more pics.
Actually, a little filing and sanding could make this a lot more convincing!

I just scored another Snap On Torqometer. TQ-12-BL. Serial # 4807. Comes in Inch-Pounds 0 to 125. 9 Inches in Length.

Thanks for the link 3bay, great memory to recall that from 2013! Odds are the handle is long gone since it appears my ratchet must have had a 1/2" dr kit put in it at some point between 1945 and now.

Yes, it likely started as a spline and someone switched it out for the square drive.

The previous owner was the source of many of my larger sockets, but he didn't seem to have kept any other 9/32 drive sockets aside from the attached one. Very much a go big or go home guy, I guess.
Still, keeping one of the 1/4 adapters around wouldn't have hurt!
