We need to put down new carpet in the bedroom we just remodeled. SOOoooo many different brands and such. My limited research leads me to believe I want a nylon loop or berber with 10# padding to keep it from smashing down in a year or two from traffic. Just need to know what brands I should be looking at for warranty customer service should I need it. I guess my last carpet must have been polyester. It was that marbled stuff and loop as well but it started showing wear after only 6 months and after 1 years the entry into the living room looked like a cattle trail near the pond! We found some from Marquis Industries but I couldn't find anybody saying anything good about them.

My experience has been that the Mohawk Smartstrand has been the best carpet I have ever owned and it has held up better than anything else I have used. I have also used 8lb super magic pad for a long long time and have had zero issues with it. I feel like it is a good compromise soft enough to be comfortable but not too firm. I feel like 10lb is too firm for my liking but that's all subjective.

Just put some loop in a miata, I wouldn't put that stuff anywhere else unless you know exactly what it is and want it for the retro-feel. It's hard to clean, not as plush as you'd think, and looks... old.

Many years back we had friends in the carpet business. They owned the store. She explained that there are only a few mills that make all the carpet in the US. They have on each roll a standard number that is on each type of carpet. Each seller of carpet can call it what they want but the standard number stays the same. So she sent me out to some of the bigger stores in the area and said find what you like and bring her the standard number and she would order it for us and get seconds if she could.
She explained that seconds fail QC for usually color reasons. She was able to get what we wanted, in seconds, at a big discount.

So find a store that you like with good people. Have them explain what I tried to above. She also said that the premium pad is more important than the carpet.
