This Britool socket set case, took what was left of the paint off. Had this set 42 years. Sat in workshops, a van, in cold damp garages and a shed, down in a cellar at my old house. There is no rot, not any sign. Just used Bartoline non caustic paint stripper, scrapers and abrasive paper. Really good steel, can't be stainless surely not! No that's silly speak. Wonder which outfit made these?

Took the day off and then an hour later, out to the garage. So hard to Not Work. Anyhow, cleaned up and what a mess it was. I need a curtain to divide the metal working from the wood building. Did the Google thing and of course everything is a stack (thousand dollars for us old folks) I'm going to string a wire and hang a $10 tarp, maybe two. LOL
Otherwise a rest day.

…and Wash DC still has combination sewers (storm & sanitary sewers) in use.
Yes sadly. Similar to other old cities in the nation.

Major $$$ being spent to try and divorce the storm from sanitary so as to avoid the Potomac Turd Flotilla after heavy rains.

I think after the latest interceptor project is complete, they are quoting something like 98% capture or something like that.

...when I was employed, I worked in the SUE (Subsurface Utility Engineering) industry. I regularily reviewed Wash Gas records and recall seeing gas mains still in service dating from the 1890's. That was about 15 years ago.....

Yeah, right; San Francisco still has wood water mains over 100 years old in places I'd bet NY and Boston and other places back east have them even older...
In upstate NY, all through my childhood, we had cedar mains running under the road. However, no one had municipal water on the road, nor could we get it. We were all wells. The cedar main was set up from a river pumphouse to businesses and residences downstream.

When the pumphouse was decommissioned, they ran cedar mains up our road to the state highway and connected up. The township didn't dare connect us up because they only had one carpenter that was trained in maintaining the wooden mains, and he was old. And his big annual job was to repair the main where it broke every spring as the clay soil at the edge of our hill would slump a bit, and break the road and the main.

The carpenter finally died, and the township was forced to run the real deal down the road and along the riverfront to feed all those customers that were dependent on a reliable water supply. And then we got city water. And then they started building cracker boxes on every farm field in the area. I'm pretty sure there's still not sewers there yet.

I'd planned to get an a early start on putting the pavers for the table pad back together. Got out there at eight while it was still chilly--about 40F--and got started. Within a half-hour, I got pulled off to deal with some brewery ****. One of the heads on the canning line was leaking, so I rebuilt it. Then some other **** and another thing and then it was lunchtime.

55456913907_fd2957c533_b.jpg

So I was back at it in the full afternoon sun. Air was better today--only 113 AQI--and the temp tolerable--91F.

Note that the shade stops eight inches from where I was working. Perfect.

I tore up and replaced the four rows of pavers on the left. Only way to tell is they're smoother.

Now to move the table back and get in some lawn mowing after it cools off some and I have a chance to rebeerdrate.

Just realizing that it's probably been forty years since I last laid pavers. Not too bad for being a bit rusty.

Acquired a heavy (really heavy) work bench and some shelves from work. They were cleaning out the "graveyard" behind the building in preparation for our expansion, and I couldn't see these getting thrown in the dumpster. So I got to bring them home. Got them unloaded last night. The bench took Plan B as my tractor didn't have enough loader capacity to lift it. Bench is 48"x48"

Some of the older intercity construction the roof downspouts(scuppers) are in center of roof tied into the sanitary making it expensive to do, the storm water run off department(AKA the parking lot police) only come around to measure the parking lot size to collect water run off fees, it's a bit awesome that our lot size gets larger every year.....the last guy was standing 3' out in street measuring sidewalks, curbs and 3' of street.....

Put together my souvenir wall. My old Merc coat, models I made when I was a teenager (50+years ago) and my great-grandfather's pipe fitting tools. Anybody remember the American Pipe Tool Company from Chicago?

Story goes. He was pipefitter building the fountain of the Great lakes on Chicago's Lakeshore. Been saving this stuff for years. It's made a half a dozen moves with me. I finally have a place to put it all.

I worked for Lehman Brothers back in the day. I stole that phone from my booth on the trading floor in Chicago before they tore it down 20 yrs ago. Direct lines to all the investment Banks and hedge funds in New York, London.

I have been working on a stage prop for my DIL who is heavily involved with a stage production of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show", they perform mostly in various venues around the Dayton area. Earlier this summer one of the cast members left and took her "tank" prop with her. I was "volunteered" to help my son make a new one. The old prop was a heavy and cumbersome wooden unit that had to be disassembled to be moved from theater to theater, my goal was to fix that. Over the last 2 months "providing some ideas" has morphed into "is it done yet?". I built a metal skeleton, mostly of 14g 1.5" square tubing as the basic structure and added wooden pieces on the outside to provide the required image of the tank as it appeared in the movie. A few weeks ago they had a private show so the tank was sort of thrown together for that show and then taken back apart to finish the details before the next show at the end of this month. The whole tank folds up and can be wheeled on it's casters through a standard pedestrian size door, it's less than 12" wide folded. The last photo was when I was taking it back apart to before finishing some welding and added more details, the first photo was from the movie.

Interesting side note, the tank in the "Rocky" movie was actually originally from "The Revenge Of Frankenstein" movie made in the 1950's.

Another “spa day”.

Lowered the 700R4. That was tight, but it’s out.

IMG_0201.jpeg

Wasted some time on the directions step “remove the pilot bushing”. I eventually looked at the new pilot bearing and realized that an engine from an automatic car didn’t get a pilot bushing.

IMG_0202.jpeg

Unboxed and tested the new TKX.

IMG_0203.jpeg

Had to temporarily install the shifter. Checked too see that it shifts in to all six gears, and the input and output shafts turn in all gears.

Lawn mowing got cancelled due to a few factors. The wind came up and blew the smoke back in. AQI is now "try not to breath". Doesn't matter which way the wind blows, as there are fires in all directions. Then I was given more canner heads to work on. Now fully rebeerdrated and just takin' it easy.

Turned off the sprinklers for the front lawn so I can mow tomorrow AM, then more canner work.

That’s going to be a nice upgrade. Good thing to see is that the rear main seal isn’t leaking. Unlike in my car 😒

“Pilot bushing” is that what the grease gun was for?

Spent yesterday running around like a chicken sans head, trying to get a bunch of things taken care of for the property I am selling. But, I did find time in there to pick up a new toy, that will be worked on in the shop, which I started making plans on this morning in my shop time, along with organizing the **** I am getting rid of to make it easier to get it out of the basement shop. But this task quickly expands to much of the rest of the basement, which needs organizing bad due to the wife's canning.

Anyway, here is the next project
55459298814_d0ddc0ded9_b.jpg
an interwar period German Bockbucksflinte, or combination rifle. It is 16gauge of 8mmJRS (8mm Mauser rimmed) but has a serious crack in the fore stock that needs gluing, and I need to move the partition in the case I have. Niether is a big project (so he says), so it wont take too long. So he says.

Whoever built that bench wasn't kidding!
Do I see holes in the benchtop? Pretty sure it was someone's welding table. Great score! If this were the garage sale thread, I'd say you ****.
You can still say, You ****.
@Mezz2006 , you ****. That's a great table.
That’s a you **** level bench. You ****.
Yep, a big heavy Usuck!

Yes, I finally get a "you ****"! :deathmeta
It was a weld fixture table at one point. We build military trailers where I work, so some of the stuff we do is really heavy. I had to pull the top off to get the bench off the trailer. I figure the top weighs 720lbs by itself and the base has to be close to that as well.

Roof rack progress. Added a porch light. These are handy pulling into camp after dark and setting up a tent or whatever.

Used this tool for the first time since around 2011. This tube was tight and needed some tweeking. LOL It's basicly an expensive pipe wrench. LMAO

I like that locking grip type pipe wrench! I have never seen that before.

I have some Vice Grip styles for pipes. Couple different sizes look like this.
