I have not clearcoated, ZMotorsports had a process explained in his thread under Metal Fabrication forum.I just noticed it's time to do this to the DD toy (again).
So you're in the same weather patterns as us, bar a mountain range or two. I think the smoke was worse over your way with fires closer. I know Tollgate road was closed--might still be--last I checked.Walla Walla
I'll sharpen your knife, restore your Coleman stove or lantern, fix an appliance, etc, but ask me to wrench on your rig? I'll be glad to sit in my lawnchair with a beer (if you buy), give advice and hand you tools (as long as I don't have to get up). I'll even assist with first aid (hand you a shop towel) when you don't listen and smash your knuckles 'cause you held the wrench wrong.Have I mentioned how much I dislike working on other people's ****.
I forgot what a crazy looking **** Ian Anderson was.
WipeNew makes a good kit that lasts several years. The Burgman and the idled PT still look good and I did them about 10-ish years ago.I have not clearcoated, ZMotorsports had a process explained in his thread under Metal Fabrication forum.
Need to get supplies and do it like that next go around.
Basically for me, 600 grit wet sand paper, water with dish soap added for some bubble and keep sand paper from clogging up.
Rest are things I had on hand from 3M and Turtle Wax kits I bought a long ago.
Followed by putting in the manual work.
This is me nowadays. It's so entertaining to have people ask me how I did this **** every day for most of a decade. My answer. It put a roof over my head and food on the table.I'll sharpen your knife, restore your Coleman stove or lantern, etc, but ask me to wrench on your rig? Agreed. Does your Standup stand up? I heard that later version (and of course the CDs) don't.Go listen to Standup with Martin Barre playing guitar.

I always liked the tin tops like that, and when looking into them, found someone down Roseburg/Medford way that does a VW TDI conversion.Decided it was finally time to mess with this little beastie...
Been sitting in the back yard for 3 1/2 years. Dropped a serviceable battery in it, cranked for about 15 seconds, and fired up!
Wouldn't run very well, found some PO carb *******, monkeyed with it and drove it into the shop.
Sorted out some lighting issues, did some de-wiring, and started down the carburetor trail.
This thing is almost all original, so I really wanted to keep it factory under the hood. Carb Replacement is like the #1 thing that sami owners do.
Well, 3 days later, having the carb on and off 3 times, I decided that rather than spend $300 on bits and pieces, I'd just install the brand new Weber than came with it for free instead. About an hour later (I've had lots of carb removal practice recently) the replacement weber was installed and it fired right up, idled great. I kept all the OE carb mumbo jumbo intact and could reinstall it in about 2 hours if need be.
Rotary swap, keep it streetableDecided it was finally time to mess with this little beastie...

I'll take it, but let it be know the beer fridge is stocked with miller lite and maybe some clear elixir in a mason jar. It's the constant crawl out and get up to get a different tool that gets me revved up. I really want to be done getting hurt on this project, already pulled some ab muscle because some fuckstick overtightened every nut and bolt under that thing.I'll sharpen your knife, restore your Coleman stove or lantern, etc, but ask me to wrench on your rig? We’ve have a base camp here also. Patadise, Hagen etc fires…..Both of you got some bad fire smoke this year. Son had his family over in Plain/ Lake Wenatchee over the weekend. Had to stay indoors the whole weekend, just too much smoke to deal with. Little Giant fire base camp is in Plain.

Saw Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass perform last year. He is still on tour too! He is 91 and is still an amazing trumpet player! The dude is 79 and still performs.
3 years and the gas is still good? Round here there would be a big yellow pile of corn dust floating around in that tank.lolDecided it was finally time to mess with this little beastie...

@Outlawmws that looks like a perfect task for a 3d printer, nice!
Generally speaking, I find it much better to cut things shorter, rather than try to cut them longer. Good progress on the lantern.. . . During the pic session I replaced the funnel chain, but overdid it and needed to shorten it:
Not sure you grasp the heat these things produce. That's a plasma flame heating a glowing mantle, not an LED. I did some measurements of temperatures on various parts of a similar lantern years ago--don't recall just what they were, but some parts can hit over 1,000F.@Outlawmws that looks like a perfect task for a 3d printer, nice!

Hopefully. I don't know if you remember my boil tests on a pint of water on my Kooklite. The water all evaporated before it ever boiled--with a lid on it.that will work better than the "Kook Lite" lanterns AGM made decades back.
