Put together a 2nd batch of tools, supplies, paints, shop manuals, equipment and tool boxes to give to the guy I gave stuff to last week. Called him up and said come get it and he was here within the hour. He brought his young son with him too help load the truck. Gave the kid an unused Official GIANTS Football Team hard hat and a large monster eyeball soap dispenser.

Starting to see a little room now in the garage. Still lots more to give him. Next trip he's getting the metal shelving, a couple metal work benches, some more tools and supplies and a few boxes full of old Hot Rod, Vintage Truck and Motorcycle magazines.

Once that stuff is gone, I'll actually have breathing room and floor space to move the motorcycles around and 'trial fit' the MGB in the garage before I can begin to build a new bench and shelving.

I've been holding onto stuff I haven't used in years. You know how that goes. Stuff you keep moving from one side of the shop to the other and constantly tripping over or boxed up and stored away because "I'll probably need that some day", when that day is never coming for a lot of it, especially at my age. Its actually very liberating in a way.
There's also "We can't get rid of it because we have had it for so long".

Outdoors today--still makin' hay while the breathin's good. Line trimmer, mower, blower--the three main lawns at TG are done for the week.

While I was doing that, the glue was drying on this year's repair of our iconic front screen door:

Back in action:

That's been up every summer since way back when--approaching thirty years now. Seems it needs something fixed about every year. It's been torn off its hinges in windstorms, had the screen ripped out by dogs and feral children (I've replaced the screen three times that I recall), been slammed shut ten million times, etc. Heavy SOB for a screen door.

Spent a lot of the last few days filling my new toolbox. Still not full yet but I'm running out of room. It looks like I won't be able to get rid of all of my other toolboxes after all.

Put this one on Marketplace and got rid of it pretty quickly. That's a couple extra dollars in my pocket and since it is sold I can stop dealing with the Marketplace mouth breathers... at least on this one.

So now I listed the second one. I hope it goes as quickly. At less than $100 I would hope it doesn't stick around long.

Cleaned the bench today! And saw somewhere here a 5 quart jug of Motorcraft Syncthetic Blend motor oil on a members bench and it got me thinking...because I do not use Motorcraft oil in any of my 4 Ford made vehicles...which is a better oil...Mobil One or Motorcraft?
After much research, I found Motorcraft is made by Conaco/Phillips and of course Mobil makes mobil One.
I know I am going to open a can of worms....Mobil 1 Full Synthetic is "generally" the better-performing oil because full synthetic formulas resist high heat better, break down slower, and keep engines cleaner than synthetic blends. However, Motorcraft Synthetic Blend is engineered specifically to meet Ford's factory standards and budget expectations. Motorcraft was never that much cheaper though so I continue to stick with Mobil One.

We got a lot of rain these past couple days and found the rain barrels FULL! These are on the backside of the garage.

Stupid fact o' the day: Oregon and Colorado require registered water rights to collect roof run-off!

Doubt it's enforced... a relic of the days when you didn't need to own the land, just the water (which days aren't gone yet).

Does it have a more modern pneumatic door closer, or just a spring to bang it closed?

Yep. Tube-style. They last a year or so. A proper pneumatic closer doesn't fit between the two doors.

Problem is, this is a heavy door. Either it slams a bit, or it doesn't fully close.
Either way, I hope it has a hellacious squeak as it closes. . . .

Fired up the new shop computer and cleaned the "new" Jet brake.

Nice new brake. Not a metal worker but one summer while in college I worked at a large oil refinery and spent part of the summer working in their big shop complex. It included a large area for the pipe fitters and boiler makers, another shop area for the welders, and connected to that large building was the metal shop.

I spent a bit of time with each group and there were only two guys left working the metal shop because the plant was going to close it when they retired. So there was not much for them to do. They taught me and two other summer workers how to use a lot of the equipment, including some really large brakes, and we made a lot of things for fun in that short time. We made knives, flip top writing pad holders (those went to supervisors and people in the white collar building for their 8.5 x 11 writing pads), and we each made stainless beer mugs. I still have mine and it holds about 25 ounces. That short stint was fun but most of the summer before that all the summer help was doing grunt work.

I tidied and swept the floor (Ha!)

55472818017_ea360a016a_b.jpg

Then piled the rest of my hot rod build in.

Even a small car sure takes up a lot of room when completely disassembled. As soon as I've finished welding/grinding on the body frame it's going away for blasting, then painting, then I can start final assembly!

Our landfill has one home haz waste day a year, and I remember it a few days too late Every. Single. Time.
I have that same affliction. It never fails that when I see the flyer, my phone is out of juice, and by the time I get back to the bulletin board, it's either over or some shithead stole the announcement.

Not to rub it in:

The Household Hazardous Waste Facility is open for household drop-offs Wednesday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM, and Saturday from 8:30 AM to 4:00/4:30 PM. No appointment is needed for residents.

Do you have a deal with them to save any and all camp fuel?

I just got notice that we're hosting a wedding with 80-odd guests on the 30th this month. I'm informed that I need to make a stand/safety cover for a heat strip (for keeping hot food hot) for a "buffet-style" service. Looking through the boneyard, I found the "lid" for a prep table, like this:

970-vp48s.jpg

Yeah, I can run with that.

Gotta add some legs to get the heat strip 16" from the table top. Off to the hardware store for some 1" aluminum angle.

55475487199_57d39a8fe8_b.jpg

How did I make the angle cut--whatever angle it is?

55475487169_feed20e7ec_b.jpg

The way a good ol' framing carpenter would. Sure I could have mathed it out with my trig skills--which I haven't exercised in about thirty years, or I could have used my CAD skills and program--if I had either. This works and is fast and accurate enough for my needs.

Customer side:

Server side:

So we don't scratch up the surface of our nice, custom-made white oak bar top

55475710355_f887ca4d09_b.jpg

Plasti-Dip to the rescue. I just applied the second and last coat.

Reckon that'll work. If I had a four-foot long sheet of Plexiglass, I'd make a "sneeze shield" for it, but I don't--and probably can't get one shipped in time. If the Powers That Be insist, I'll see what I can do.

Nope, not anymore - anything volatile they no longer put out in the "free reuse" shelves... remember this is the state ther banned the sale of DNA except at boat places; labeled "Stove fuel". Most other useful chemicals are also banned.

The only thing available now is water base house paints...

Randy F has or had a deal where he lives, but the guy he worked with left/retired something, so not sure if he has an exclusive any more - he still sells it for $6 a gallon, at gatherings, but not in the volume he used to.

IMG_8602.jpegIMG_8670.jpegIMG_8679.jpegFound some time today to look at my 1990 Polaris trail boss 250. The rear wheels had locked up on it maybe October 2024. Thought it was going to be the drive belt but it was the piston in the rear brake caliper, the master cylinder was full of junk and water, cleaned and flushed the brake system, got the brake caliper piston freed, took it for a quick ride. It’s going to need a carb clean

Worked on cleaning the carpet glue off the floor of my shop office/bathroom - until the second 25+ year old Craftsman belt sander quit on me. Since I had anticipated this might happen, I had purchased a new Craftsman belt sander - it lasted a whole 5 minutes. So, I spent the rest of the morning taking apart and attempting a repair on the 2nd 25+ year old Craftsman. Will find out tomorrow if my efforts paid off.

Have you tried a floor razor scraper, that’s what we always used after tearing up glue down carpet
