The new decking, refinished boathouse and the re-roofed little summer are looking great. What is the final colour of the main house? The whole place must be looking very smart at this stage.
Is it still the intent to use it as a summer rental property, at least part of the time?

The boat house and cabin are about the most charming thing I've ever seen. Thatch...who knew artisans remained to do this work??

After all the wildfires we've just endured, I can understand the no fire policy on the broads as you say. We just visited our camp site for the first time in nearly four weeks (no one could access the area during fire clean up) and the devastation is shocking. I would not wish it on anyone.

I would think there is, and that only specialist brokers offer it, probably needing to see a certificate showing all necessary anti spark and fire arrest precautions.

Our little shed is included in the house policy, but it might be worth checking.

Thanks , wifey wants it to earn its keep being a holiday rental but the more time and money we invest the less she wants someone messing it about.
Being one of the original Thurne River bungalows we’re going with the original colour scheme of Green and Cream.
The new pt timber needs at least six months before paint, so we’re hoping to get it all done and then painted when the weather warms up next year.
This one is for sale and has a fantastic history

It was made by a local company, Bolton and Paul, 1900’s ish
Bought from a catalogue as four individual sheds and shipped to the Antarctic as research accommodation, when done with shipped back and sited where you see it now.

It was a very popular scheme, it’s like new cars you buy one then see them all over.
It pops up all around on our travels when you least expect it to.
The bungalow, we think is 1935ish, if that ties in with your kit. Ministry of works, don’t know, between the wars all a bit austere.

Yep it felt about time. Drove past the workshop the other week it’s been emptied and painted.


Sorry about the bbq, them’s the rules, if you want the holiday deposit back I’ll understand.
Talking of food I can cook, wifey said I was wasting the workshop money on frivolous items and not investing it seriously, I ask you is this frivolous.

It’s brilliant quality as is all my Festool equipment.

I just pick up a corded makita track saw with an extra couple tracks and I love it and I barely have a garage or shop to use it in.

Festool is a bit too spendy for a diy’er but I wish I had their sander and vacuum system.

I’m guessing since they are painting your old shop that it closed and you got paid??

Carry on and keep doing what you do and remember to put in a day (call it Sunday) each week to just relax or whatever.

I started buying the festool equipment during Covid with a plan of having all festool when I retired. The dust extraction works fantastically with all the kit. The track saw is great we should have bought one years ago.
You can always do what I did, I bought the wife the sander as an Easter present

Yep the workshop sold and monies deposited in my account June 12th. Won’t forget that date in a hurry, and thanks I rest on Sundays.

We renamed the boat Boaty after the Boaty McBoatface fiasco, and yesterday the Met Office is taking votes on the next storm, either Timmy or Shaun ( Ardman studios) , Dame Judy Drench and Stormy Mc Storm face already disallowed.
The bungalow official name is Downriver which also appeals to us because that is exactly where it is.

The Broads are a special place, hope you enjoy your time there! I was born in the N&N when it was still in the city centre and spent many summer fooling around on the rivers and broads. We bought a broads yacht (notable for the folding mast necessary to get under all the low bridges) at some point from a boat yard up at Sutton Bridge. There’s a saying about boats and maintenance and sure enough it seemed to be a never ending saga of sanding and painting Sikkens …and many trips to Jeckels chandlers despite the fact the ****** thing was covered from bow to stern in a waterproof made to measure cover

Through family connections it was moored in the private yacht basin at Heronby, on Beech Rd in Wroxham. A very special place - also thatched if I recall correctly (memory hazy it was ~40 years ago) It was once the home of the popular entertainer George Formby and the best memories are of the pool with diving board, lazy evening barbecues and chasing Canadian Geese. It was also a decent fishing spot, with Pike and Perch amongst those swimming about - even I managed to catch some of ‘em.

I was a member of Horning Yacht Club and used to race in dingy classes solo. That was a giggle, but not as much of a thrill as crewing on Yare and Bure class racing yachts. Hoveton Great Broad was the place for a decent race and I used to crew for a BBC Journalist who had a Thomas Crown approach to racing. In his mind if you weren’t living in fear of ending up in the drink, you weren’t going fast enough!

I keep threatening to take the family to the Acle
Bridge pub by boat, we have been before and it’s very nice, 6 miles by river, so that’s an hour there and an hour back.
Yep, it’s all as flat as a flat thing, explains why the flood defence wall is about 18” high.

It’s moved sites this year to the home of British Motor racing Silverstone. After two months of not a drop of rain, it’s looking like we might get wet.

Winslow an ancient market town with loads of interesting buildings.





We’re staying here at The Bell pub and hotel.
Parts of which date back to the 1660’s

Turns out the pub is a multi award winning pie champion. I can attest to the steak and Guinness pie being deserving of awards.
