Q for Mods... Are "Cleanup" Likes Distracting?

I noticed recently that there have been a few threads that have veered off track enough that someone needs to step in and clean them up. On a recent one (that I happened to report on), one of the mods mentioned staying on track, avoiding personal insults, etc. I left a "Like" thumbs up, as a way to try and not clutter the thread, but show my appreciation for their job. I saw that a couple of others had done the same. However, it got me thinking... When I have made a particularly witty post, my "notifications" bell has been overwhelmed at times from everyone "liking" it, to the point that I have trouble seeing the threads that I actually care about for replies because of all the "likes". Hence my question in the title.

Mods, do you have any opinion on others "liking" your posts about thread cleanup or rules reinforcement? I am wondering if it falls under "well-meaning but un-helpful or distracting". Having not been a mod, I don't know if there is a separate "mod" notification section apart from your regular "user" notifications (I could see issues needing a mod getting lost "in the shuffle" if everything is all grouped together). Or maybe I am just over-thinking it? This board seems to run fairly "hands-off" most of the time (like anything else, stupid posts seem to come in waves), so maybe it isn't an actual issue/concern?

Just a random thought I had, and wanted to make sure that I wasn't (accidentally) making anyone's job harder while trying to express appreciation. I may be totally overanalyzing.

no issues. if I get a lot of notifications, I often open the window to show all , and read down the list . someone that has quoted a post of mine there's a better chance I'll go to the quote than if someone "liked" it

Thats always an option. However as a Mod, it helps me fullfill those duties at times....along the same lines of not putting a member on Ignore. Some what unproductive in my book....I'm sure opinions vary.

I have a few people on ignore, I still view their posts but it reminds me not to interact with them.

I had two on my "ignore" list but I took them off.
As I said to another member years ago: no matter how obnoxious they are, they just might come up with some tidbit of some information which may be of value.

I was also thinking of the "likes" being distracting in a case where the thread had run it's course, and then derailed. Mod locks it, and there isn't a way to say "thanks". No real reason you need to go back to the thread, but kind of hard to "quote" you when that happens...


Overall, sounds like they aren't a worry to those mods that have posted. Thanks for letting me know!

I do the same. I right-click the notifications alert to display on it's own tab. I can take my time looking for any reactions that stand out, or quotes that I might learn from. I open new tabs for all threads that I read.

Then I click "New Posts", and scroll down for anything I might want to view. I right-click those into a new tab. Take my time viewing them. I don't have to click back to the previous page, which is time consuming to reload.

The ignore function is wonderful. Everyone has the right to be here. The ignore function changes that for me. LMAO
Reaction score is also a good tool. Let's people know how well they're doing and tells me folks to avoid. LOL

Mod's are here to keep the community healthy and productive. Ignoring the angry, negativity of these folks helps me weed out the junk. The probability of those folks having something I can use is small, very small. I've been a Mod for decades and post count turns some people into self appointed kings of discontent. LOL
