Goodwood Festival of Speed 2026 here we come! Well almost now!
Tickets bought (wow!) Any tips to go where and does anybody know why they do not a have a classic car parking?
Ferry booked
Hotel arranged (Brighton)
Bought England travel with classic car essentials:
Car ready? Eehh....
My trusty 73'Alfa Giulia Super which I own since 1990 was still slumbering in my parents garage (as my car port is still not ready).
So I took it out for my daily commute (35Km. one way)
A relatively short list of todo 's was the result:
Heater blower not working
One door seal (horizontal) adrift
12 volt power plug dead
Door cardboard lose at drivers door
Battery not very fit
Paint very dull
I first started obviously with the less urgent item:
Polishing the paint!
It was direct result!
The last time I polished it was so lang ago that I can not remember even when.
I ordered a new battery which should arrive tomorrow or so.
The lose door card could be repaired with two new parkers and some bigger rings. However I noticed that the backing material of the door cards is returning to dust slowly but that is a job for later.
The 12 volt power outlet is powered from the secondary fuse and relay box which I added a few years ago to power the headlight relays, petrol pump, radio (if fitted) and the power socket. It turned out only to be a blown fuse Conservatively 4A fuse was fitted in the past, I do not know what I thought at that time.
Last jobs to do are glue the window rubber in situ and finding the electric gremlin of the blower. If it is the motor itself I will totally rely on the demisting spray ;-)

I still owed you the Goodwood roadtrip story.
On the Thursday I took my Giulia to work with the plan to leave for Gent in Belgium, to pick up my long time car friend Thierry, at 12 noon. The Alfa packed with around 25Kg. of tools and parts for the case of..
It came as it must come, I left the company (I work as a Warehouse Manager for a big Brewery) at 5.45pm. after a horrible day (a very hot summer gives a lot of beer consumption). We just managed to catch the 8pm ferry from Dunkirk to Dover
A fast diner in Dover (lovely steak, horrible price) and we headed for our hostel in Brighton which was basic but very clean and in the Summer Holliday more or less empty. Did I mention that the Alfa ran faultless and fast both to the ferry with an outside temperature of 30degrees centigrade plus. Actually very fast as soon as the slow traffic around the Belgium cities was behind us to the ferry and a bit more carefull fast from Dover to Brighton ;-)
Friday morning we headed at 8 to Goodwood, normally a 45minutes drive but with some heavier traffic a bit over an hour now. In the last few Km's with very slow traffic and a temperature of already again over 30 degrees even the temp gauge of the Alfa slowly krept up from the normally always steady 80 degrees to something like 95. So heater on! Pffff. Lucky I brought an extra shirt that morning..
The last time I visited the festival of speed was in 1999 with the same Alfa and then it rained (and the wipers packed up on the way home).
Now the green lawns where hay dry!
We enjoyed the stay very much but unfortunately saw not many other classic cars of visitors (but a lot of helicopters) which is absolutely a change to what I saw 26 years ago.
And only one Alfa Romeo which attended as far as we could see:
A P3, not bad!
We had a lovely weekend!
The Alfa ran almost faultless. It turned of ALL electricity while driving in Brighton centre on a roundabout on Saturday evening! A fast bang on the fusebox (practically mounted under the dashboard) restored the go condition and off we where again. Need to look at that one this winter.
Sunday late afternoon saw us back in Dover
And after landing in Dunkirk and battling Sunday evening traffic jams in Belgium I was home at 10. Nice in time for a fresh work week start on monday morning ;-)
