I was killed time between work appointments and stopped at a dilapidated pawn shop. I've driven by several times but ever stopped. An old lady in the back was watching reruns of bonanza on a grainy TV. Place was full of crappy lawn equipment on Chinese tools. Before I gave up on finding any treasures I literally tripped on this old warn winch. The old lady up front took $75 bucks for it.



Of course this wench did have the electricrial components, those are easily found in the aftermarket. I tried jumping the motor to see if it still worked, no luck. Maybe upgrade the motor too! The free spool was seized so I took the top cover off to check it out. If nothing else a guy could part this one out and be money ahead.



The gears might be a little pitted. I'll inventory the parts I need and see if Santa will bring them for Christmas. Not a top priority rebuild but should be cool once I'm done with it.

In all its glory. These 8274 winches are still cool as all get out. Might not be the highest weight capacity but good line speed and large aftermarket support.

I haven't been keeping up in the shop stuff. More of ecking out an existence, works been crazy busy and never let's up it seems. Adding the 2-1/2 yr old in the mix makes it fun & exhausting.

I did take the little fella to pick up this market place find. Rolling service cart with a damaged top for $50. We added some 1-1/2 angle iron front and back with larger 6" castor wheels. Great stability for my Montazuma knockoff box.

I've always had this sitting on my husky tool box but now I'm on the hunt for a top box for it. Not alot of options for a 46" long 18" top box. :/ I might just need to sell this one and upgrade the whole works. Lol

So back in January I went out hunting during Kansas' extended doe season. Kinda uneventful just saw a bunch of bucks I didn't see during the regular firearm season.

The last day in the last hour of shooting light I harvest a nice healthy doe. No tag soup for me this year. Any ways I put my pickup in 4 wheel drive to pull into a soft pasture trail to retrieve the animal.

When I got back on the road and went to put my pickup back into 2wd my shifter just waggles like a puppies tail happy to see me. I wasn't so happy crawling under a muddy pickup, hand shifting the transfer case hoping to find 2wd. I couldn't find the linkage anywhere I only drove maybe 300 yards in 4wd.

Life got in the way but I finally replaced my linkage the other day. Yes, this is somewhat common in 3rd gen dodge. The linkage is like $20 on rockauto, but it's also a crummy design. I got some replacement rubber grommets, a couple 3/8" heims and she's back up and running. I used some stainless steel fender washers to capture the grommets so this set up doesn't just fall out altogether. I also trust some nylocks over those cheap stamped steel cer-clips any day.

While neither is a good situation...I would much rather have to take it out of 4wd, rather than crawl under in the mud to get it engaged!

Just sitting here in front of the shop drinking a refreshing beverage listening to some good tunes. Lamenting the fact that a voluntarily agreed to give up my small little corner of tranquility.

That's right kids. I'm moving.

My wife and I made a offer on a house on the the Northwest side of town. Better school district, much larger house for our growing family, more privacy etc, etc, etc.

It always a balancing act of family's needs and wants. Since cave man first had a dedicated space for pounding two rocks together they inevitably were forced to give it up. I digress.

We still have inspections and closing to get through. Not to leave this page hanging, the new place does have a detached 2 car garage that I'll fix up make the most out of. It should be a fun time. More adventures await.

Well da'da new shop. For the record my old one was 30x40x14. This ones a little smaller. 36x24x10. It did ever put a lift in my old one although I'd thought about it a time or two.



The previous owner and original builder had divided this garage in two with an insulated a uninsulated parts.



All together not a bad space. We also have an attached garage to the house for the daily drivers and a sizable garage shed with lean-to.

Moving as always *****!

The house stuff went well, no real pickups to mention accept hiring last minute cleaners after the hard wood floor contractor left a layer of saw dust everywhere .



The shop had some hiccups.



I was moving my air compressor from some vibrations pucks onto a 24x24 pallet just to help make it more stable for the move. One of the rubber pucks was stuck on the leg and git me off balance, the weight shifted and I let gravity take over. The harbor freight compressor head is cracked and fly wheel busted into a dozen pieces. Time to upgrade!



This is the only picture I took while loading things. We moved both house and shop in 3 days. Two things really helped with this. We hired movers to move the big house furniture and I rented this ground load trailer for the shop stuff. It worked awesome. I rented over a weekend they only charged me for the Friday rental. We made a dozen trip with it. A good portion of my shop stuff is on casters. They rolled on and rolled off. Pretty darn slick!

The lean-to on the back garden shed has just enough room to store Bob my '90 w250. I really need to fix the leaking transmission and sell this thing.

The dune buggy and 'ol blue get the deluxe accommodations in the new shop. The previous owner had a man door and adjacent door to make for a pretty good opening. But the at some point he trimmed around them added a couple shelves on the back side. I opened them back up and started moving in.

Here's the game plan on the shop. I need to find a mason to reprint the corner where the brink and limestone meet. It's not something I'm gona tackle and I sooner pay someone.

Also I need to upgrade the electrical service and sub panel. Currently 70amp breaker being feed from the house with 4 - 15amp breakers in the shop. I had 100amp service in my previous shop and it worked great for my uses. I would be hesitant about having my compressor and plasma cutter or welder running as the same. Also, I would like to add a mini-split and and 50amp RV plug.

Dang the old shop looked empty when I was done moving. Our old place sold in 3 days with multiple offers. We are very fortunate. The new owner is a car guy and sounds like he'd got plans for the place so you might see him on here. I left him the large American flag since I just don't have a place to hang it.

I had a co-work tell the the shop would be perfect for a golf simulator... I about punched him. So I'm glad it's going to a do'er.

The last little project before we had our son was born. The shop had these 3 pvc lines in the middle of it and I was tired of tripping on them. One was a water supply line that happened to run through the sprinkler system . One drain, and one electrical. Ground level and capped for now with a foam foot pad over it.



Long term I'm not sure I'll ever use these but it would be nice to know were i lines were ran. Future bathroom?

This was in the back corner. The lower faux tile sheet is hinged for privacy. The Urinal is self looks like an old washer fluid jug. Props to the previous owner for having hand sanitizer at the ready.

I'd sooner step outside and find a tree than used this. The drain line is different from the other one and I'm not sure they are tied together at all. I know we've all heard stories about the funnel sticking out the back side of a shop wall but i never dreamed of buying a place with it! This building was so full of **** when we looked at I'm not sure I could of found it if I knew it was here lol. This has also been removed and line capped.

That funnel brings me back to 2009....I was looking at a house in small town Iowa with a very nice 3 car detached garage that the cost of the garage was probably equivalent to the house. But the house was in town and had a couple close neighbors so the owner rigged up something similar. Hung a bit of a shower curtain in the corner, bucket/funnel looking thing in the corner and hid the drain by dumping it into the backside(concealed) side of the downspout. Did a decent job of it....I wasn't keen on living in town at the time and the house needed a ton of work so I passed but the garage was nicely done!

It's been an incredibly busy summer and hotter than hell. I think the local news said we were the second driest and hottest on July- August on record.

Work has been crazy busy and I've had my best year in the last 6 yrs of been in industrial sales. Still I'm running into challenges daily, internal f-ups, supplier availability & leadtimes. Etc. Feels somewhat like covid again with lack of communication and response times.


The heat makes getting anything done outside miserable. I did have a contractor put in 100amp panel. I wired back in the existing circuits but I know I'll be redoing alot of it.

My nephews came to visit in the middle of the summer. My oldest nephew just got his restricted driver's license. He's pretty excited. My sister already got him a car ... black trans am. He's not cool enough for T-tops but he's trying hard to embrace the smokey & the bandit persona.

Any way it's sparked and interested in cars so while they were visiting, we changed the oil in the VW buggy, swapped out the paddle tires for worn out street shoes. I hauled the buggy up to my folks place and we ran around on the back roads in the neighbors asked us to stop .... party poopers.

My dad followed us around in his Willy's Pickup. I give my mom a ride and had her laughing most of the time.

At first my 3rd did want to leave Grandpa's pickup but he finally got brave and asked for a ride in HIS buggy.

It was a fun day...hot but fun!

Our neighbor stopped by 2 nights ago to let us know something got all their chickens. I guess a couple of the birds are unaccounted for.

It was cool the other Sunday morning so I crawling up in the attic of the shop to investigate how the previous owner ran the electrical.... I was unimpressed.
