Guy crashed his Subaru on Nürburgring so badly it needed to be recovered to England.
Obviously no insurance cover because of the race track.
So he took apart another great car he already owned and built it into what was left of the Subaru.
Skyline, meet Subaru.
I have a super critical eye…… this build is spectacularly well executed.

But………
Modern shopping centres continue to use the footprint of a 1972 Morris Minor to design car parks, then fine you if you’re not inside the box.
Looking at all the POS electric toasters, even the smallest ones take up a load of space.
And that, for a small car show.

My buddy Martin asked me just this morning what peoples reaction was to the Oldsmobile.
He was a bit surprised when I said that I park it, windows down, and walk away.
He is former V-Rod owner, and small Porche (whatever it’s called, when you can’t afford a real 911 or 996/whatever) owner. Loving to tell people the V-Rod was a Porche design, and just how good and better his porche is than a 911. You get the picture??
Anyway, it was probably more colourful than most.
And the only important thing to me is the pleasure I get from driving it.
You all know that I am a commercial vehicle fan.
I saw this South American model VW pickup.
As it stands, the Tukan is exclusively a South American market product; unless VW changes its strategy, Single and double cab. Based on T-Cross mmmmm….. with leaf springs in back.

Life carries on regardless of what you do.
I have been slack on house maintenance in the last few years.
But at 105 years old, you get the idea.
The original fireplaces were removed before I moved here.
BUT….., the chimneys were left in place.
So my house sprang a significant leak that only manifested with wind driven rain from the North-East.
Normally we have rain primarily from the opposite direction.
Those of you reading the text on my post will recall that I have been cutting the neighbors grass and hedges the last year or more. It was where the lawnmower I found a few weeks ago went as well.
In my world, trading skills is much more valuable than cash, and I don’t keep a record of what I do or if others do me a favour. It should flow naturally. Of course there are abusers of this way of thinking and usually by the third job or activity you get the feeling if you are being abused.
On Monday last week which was of course a public holiday in the UK, Luke, my neighbour came knocking early morning and announced that we would be building a scaffolding tower up to my roof and get the chimney fixed by the next weekend.
So we built a tower later in the day on Monday.
I primarily stayed out the way, made coffee and carried scaffolding pipes, boards from his house to my driveway and made coffee.
I also helped by just handing him some of the parts as the tower went up.
Amazing how fast it goes up when someone knows what they are doing, and is a BEAST of a man.
My neighbor at number one is a builder and certified gas maintenance technician, he services my boiler and heating system every year.
He had originally agreed to finding and fixing the leak in the roof, but it never happened.
So when he saw the tower, he called me to check what was happening. So I told him, roof repair and that I was going to call a roofing guy in.
He then offered me the use of two flat roofing ladders so I could actually get up there safely and inspect and repair it myself.
He came and installed the first flat ladder and took a look, his son delivered a second one that I took up and laid out.
So I was ready to take on the job myself now.
Luke had said he would come help and supervise me so I didn’t fall off the roof.
We don’t bounce as well when we get older.
Next stop…….. Saturday.

Saturday morning I went to get a bag of cement early before the world got going.
Luke came around later and said he would trade jobs with me……. He needed some repairs to his Iveco truck bed and help to get it started as it has been parked over the street for months.
In the end, we did not split jobs, we both headed up onto the roof with a bag of tools to chip away the render around the base of the chimney and then I added some 2:1 diluted PVA wood glue over the opened areas to stabilise dust etc. we got some exterior sealant into the seam between the lead flashing and brickwork.
Took a break so it could dry a bit.
I then mixed a strong mix of mortar cement and we repaired and plastered it all back.
Much better than before.

Next job, which Luke had said, was welding a corner brace back on the rear load bed, turned into a non starter very quickly. Aluminium.
So I dismantled it and created a bolt in brace and repaired it that way.
Getting the truck started took a lot of wasted effort.
Google, YouTube etc finally pointed at a dead battery and also an 80 Amp bridge fuse that had been blown.
I suspect cack handed jumper lead use. I also 100% don’t take any responsibility for it.
But……. By 8.00pm last night the truck, which has now spent 48 hours on my driveway, started.
I opened the rear brake light cluster and replaced a bulb with one from my stash of spares in the garage. Luke is not the kind of guy who has or keeps any spares, tools etc.
Today it is raining, and hopefully by tonight the truck will be off to a new owner.
All things considered……. A great result for both of us.

But too much is just enough.
So I ran over to collect it.
I got home and researched the item.

Hard to believe that would be around $2600.00 in getting in a “specialist” to do what we did.
Rain all day yesterday was a softer precipitation, rather than a wind driven assault on the side of the chimney.
So full proof or testing by nature is still needed.
But I am happy that we got it done.
Of course getting the truck fixed added to the value of our outcomes.

I often find myself concerned too.
Living in the orbit of it can be quite challenging.
I don’t know how Lucas keeps his focus with all the help he gets.
Battery lives dowwwwnnnn there under the floor, necessitating removal of the lower step and sideways entry.

I am sure you know that I have been busy on the neighbors side many times, doing various jobs, helping etc.
Lucas has told me repeatedly that where they come from, nobody helps each other.
So working on problems and projects together just makes sense.
When I gave up the 1 meter or 3 foot strip down the side of my property so that he can build a nice entertainment area, he was just as shocked, because it meant being able to move the whole construction over towards my boundary line and opening up more of his back yard to actually use.
It also meant we removed 10 meters of my hedge, which was always awkward to cut back.
We are going to put a roof over it to dry that are in and then he gains a load of dry storage space for tools, toys etc
Sometimes you need to show people that Life is Good.

@Sparkplug headed off on one of many crazy missions we have shared over the years.
Destination was Ayr in Scotland.
But Fil came from Cambridge to collect a trailer that was loaded with a pile of used double glazed doors and windows. Also a crate that contained a low mileage 125cc Honda engine and parts of a CG125. From here he headed to Derbyshire to deliver a load of stuff, then to Scotland and eventually days later he got back to my home after a motorway blow out and expensive repair on the trailer. But nothing ever kills Fils spirit. My kinda people.
Very good friend, Fireman Bill sorted a load of logistics on my behalf in Scotland, including collection of a set of RX7 seats, alloy wheels and some other treasures that he sent home with Fil.
These things are what create friendships, memories and allow my whole world to be awesome.
Once again, a massive thanks to everyone who impacts my life and world.
Life really is amazingly good.

Poor guy! I know how that is, I once had a neighbor that did not bother to put my missplaced mail into my mailbox, he had about 80 cm from his door to mine.
That is called a win-win I believe.

Amazingly it was 2019 when I sold this.
Amazing stuff when a neighbor won’t collect a parcel, or tell you that your wifes car had a flat tyre etc.
But quicker than a squirrel up a tree to tell you someone has parked in front of his home while visiting you.
