Now to an update on the broken foot. At my appointment with the surgeon 8 weeks after the break, things seemed to be going pretty good. He was more interested in how I was feeling rather than what the x-rays said. I was feeling pretty good, so I switched out of the walking shoe to some new Skechers, which felt pretty good. A couple days later, I tried my Skechers sneakers, which lead to my foot starting to hurt again, so I went back to the walking shoe. I used it for the next 2-1/2 weeks until it fell apart near the end of our Alaska trip and switched back to the Skechers which were comfortable. I went with some buddies to Monterey Car Week at the end of the Alaska trip, and we walked 12,000+ steps a day for 4 days, all without any significant pain to me.
I went the surgeon this week, and as I'm entering his office, the foot starts to hurt! ****! I tell him about it and that I don't know what's going on since I have been feeling pretty good, to which he replies "I do!" X-rays confirm the break hasn't healed. He wanted to do surgery next week, but with the need to move mom into her new apartment and getting her all set up, there's just not enough time for the initial non-weight bearing healing to take place before we have a scheduled fall colors tour. He warned me that if I put off the surgery, the risk of addition injury and prolonged healing come into play, but I just cannot leave Lori with the burden of moving her mom as I would be useless post surgery! In order to "keep peace", I'm going to put off surgery until after we return from vacation in mid-November. I'm sure he's not happy with me, but he'll get over it, I hope!!

I’m very sorry to hear all the issues with mom and especially yourself. Hopefully you delaying your surgery doesn’t end up costing you additional injury and downtime.

Damn Gary...busy summer/early fall for you! Best of luck to you and Lori on the upcoming move of her mom, thankfully she's accepting of it. My mom is dealing with the same thing with her mother...minus the "accepting" of it's time to move part so that's not a lot of fun. Hopefully she gets settled in to her new place well, you can enjoy the vacation and be all healed up from the foot by the time holidays come in December!

Thanks, guys, for the comments above. I went through this when I was much younger with my mom, but my sister handled most of the care and my muscle memory of that time isn’t very strong. I’m just glad Lori’s mom isn’t fighting this like I expected her stubborn self to do!!
In January I received a call that my name had been drawn from the nationwide Cadillac CTS-V club membership for free tuition to the Ron Fellows Spring Mountain Driving Academy in Pahrump, NV. I was all set to go in a week or two when I broke my foot. They were nice enough to give me a rain check, and I flew to Las Vegas Vegas yesterday to attend the school today and tomorrow.
I was on the “struggle bus” as I walked through both DFW and LAS airports, with the broken foot really affecting my ability to walk with any speed. I reached out to our fall colors tour director and explained what was going on, and he will refund what we have paid to date in full! I guess having done 2 tours with him has some benefits! Anyway, I’ll get the surgery scheduled for a couple of weeks from now after we get mom moved.
Since I was last at Spring Mountain in 2020, they have added 30 or so casitas. These were built by the Amish and trucked here. In my mind, much better than the normal hotel room like condo accommodations.

All Cadillac CT-4 and CT-5 V’s. Mine is a CT-4V as the CT5’s were all allocated to “paying “ customers.

Today’s curriculum consisted of 2 track sessions in lead/follow format with an instructor and 3 students, a session highlighting lighting the capabilities of modern ABS systems and a session on a skidpad with water. Not only was there water, the tires on the cars were almost worn to nothing, and, in the instructors words, “we have polished every granule of this asphalt over the last 16 years!!” At the end of the spin out session, the instructor put the PTM system into snow mode, and how it controlled the car in situations that would otherwise result in a spin out were just amazing!! The last session of the day was a ride along with the instructor, which was humbling to say the least.
I’m looking forward to tomorrow for more lead/follow sessions and an autocross competition!
