Is there a large diameter metal garden hose?

My dog likes to chew on garden hoses. A real pain the the *** this is. So I got this metal one off amazon, but it won't flow enough water to work my fan sprinkler. Not with the water filter I have.

But my regular rubber garden hose will, even with the filter. So I was hoping someone here knows of a hose the dog can't chew through, that has a large inside diameter. The same size as the usual rubber hoses. Thanks!

I got a 3/4" garden hose from Harbor Freight. It flows incredibly well, is inexpensive and very tough. (not that flexible)

I would try one of these and rub it down with some ghost pepper sauce. No hose is a match for a big dog, but I would think an oily sauce would stick to the rubber. (You would, of course, need to protect your hands when handling it.) This works for rodents chewing on wires and I would expect a dog would get the point quickly.

Go to your local farm supply store and purchase a small electric fence charger and some poly wire. Tape the poly wire along the length of the hose. Do not allow the wire to contact the outdoor spigot.

On amazon, you can purchase remote control relays that come with a key fob.

Plug the fence charger's 120 volt plug into the remote control relay.. when you catch the dog chewing on the hose, hit the button.

I had a similar problem.. My wife feeds some feral cats.. good to keep mice population down. Problem is, the raccoons and opossums figured out that cat food is delicious..

So what I did was to set the stainless food bowl (hot) on top of a piece galvanized hardware cloth (ground).. When we see the cat feeding, we do nothing.. when we see not-a-cat feeding, we hit the key fob.. the fence charger turns on and the raccoon does his impression of a SpaceX launch.
The stainless bowl is the hot, it sits on a piece of rubber which is on top of the hardware cloth. The racoon has to stand on the hardware cloth to get to the bowl.. as he's eating, he gets one hell of a shock. It only takes once and they won't come back.

My guess is that your dog will stay at least three feet from that hose after that happens.

They make remote shock collars, that work excellent for training dogs. They are not that expensive either.

A user selectable level from almost imperviable to Holy **** is delivered with a tone as well. Or the tone independent. Most dogs only need a couple of mild shocks and then the tone is enough. This last dog was extremely stubborn and needed full power to stop chasing semi's and bicyclist but now see them and steps back up onto the porch until they pass. He usually listens but for some reason those two items he would run thru the shock until it was high enough that he couldn't ignore it.

There may be a flexible braided metal sleeve that you can slip the hose thru. BUT I doubt it is very cheap.

Potentially the yellow gas tubing is a possiblity with stainless tube leading the way but you'd have to go with a bunch of adapters from GHT to the 45 degree (?) flare and it will not like to be bent very tight.

Not gonna stop a dog who has the "chew" habit to stop, unless it's become something awful for them.

You're in a s#!t situation - maybe an electric fence next to it until fido realizes chewing the hose isn't a good idea?

How about one of those hose storage boxes with a crank. Just put the hose away when not in use.

How long of a distance are we talking about? Could you get some pvc and glue on some screw together ends which will handle the pressure? Feeling rich? Get some copper sticks and solder on fittings.

This won’t help solve your dog chewing but I have to ask why do you filter the water you use to irrigate your yard? That’s thousands of gallons of water per month that accelerates the need for service on your filter. Is that significant? I know that folks with a water softener need to have their outdoor spigots plumbed in ahead of their water softeners.

Dig a few trenches and lay in PVC pipe and a few pop up sprinkler heads and you won’t need a fan sprinkler. Plus you won’t have a hose to move around along with your fan sprinkler to cover the area and you can then mow without having to drag the whole set up out of the way. You can even automate it So you won’t have to be around to water your lawn or ever forget to turn off the hose. It was the forgetting to turn it off bit that motivated me to do it.
