I recently inheireted some of my grandfathers old tools and among them there was a Proto 1/4 ratchet missing the one of the screws that holds in the cover plate. It is in good working and cosmetic condition and I'd like to find the missing piece, does anyone know were I can get one or does anyone have one they can toss in an envelope for me? Thanks

I'd be curious where to find the same part for the 1/2 version of that ratchet... been missing one for as long as I can remember.

Sears hardware or any good hardware store will have the screws for the 1/2". I have bought them there before.
Op the 1/4 " ratchet screws might be found at a hardware store also.

I found a replacement for my 3/4" drive. I think it was a 12-24 thread. So I would assume that a 1/2 would be a 10-32 with the countersunk taper. The screws were available at my ace a local hardware store.
Thanks
Roy

ALL: pretty sure Proto still sells replacement parts for the old Plvmb ratchets if you can't find a match at the hardware stores.

here's a few pictures of my 1 inch Plvmb ratchet with a newer Proto kit installed in it until our OP posts pictures of his. it ain't no little thing.

Here's a pic of mine, the other screw is pretty bad (stripped out) so I'll probably replace both if I can get the current one out.

Junk: not sure if the hole is stripped or not, but i've got a few of the old Plvmb ratchets that actually have a small screw with a small sqaure headed bolt on the other side that the bolt screws into. not the best fix, but it works.

as i get time i might see what the issues are with mine because i have a nice 3/4 inch Plvmb ratchet with that set up. sorry i don't have a picture handy, but i'll try to get one if you ask for one.

I have a little bolt that fit but I am looking for something that looks like it belongs on that ratchet or an original screw, and the hole is not striped out the head of the phillips head screw is, Thanks.

I'm pretty sure the 1/4" used a 3-48 x 3/8, the 3/8" a 6-32 x 1/2 and the 1/2" an 8-32 x 5/8. Some of the older 3/8" and 1/2" I've seen use an external toothed washer on the screw. I don't think those were a special item, just a regulat flat external toothed washer that squashes nicely into the countersink under the screwhead. The newer rebuild kits I've seen have blue threadlocking compound pre-applied to the screws.
