Metal Cabinets vintage or homemade and no name toolboxes. got any to show please do

Not exactly home built but home designed.

I designed them, programmed them to run in either a Turret or Laser part dependent and the boys and girls in the Shop did the rest except the assembly.

.063 Galvanneal Material, Accuride Drawer Slides. Still need to gather up the Magnets to hold the Doors closed, Door Handles and a few other things.

Need to assemble 26 of them and install them. Then I can get the measurements for the 2 inch thick Butcher Block Tops.

Moore: nice save and i agree old metal kitchen cabinets would look great in a vintage garage.

TH: are you running out of room yet? I like the curves on that one that looks like you are restoring or did you pick it up partially restored?

4 FN: i'm not sure if your cabinets qualify as VINTAGE, but i thank you for posting them up and best of luck putting them all together. since you probably have a garage full of more vintage stuff than most of us feel free to post up more pictures of the cabinets after you finish putting them together and installing them with all your cool cars and machines if you have time to.

i think you might want to go in to your GJ profile and update your AVATAR cause didn't you pour cement for a few days last year and turn your driveway into a drag strip?

4 FN: that's the DRAG STRIP. have you done any burn outs on it yet? thanks for sharing and of course I'm (we) are jealous of not only your "little" cement driveway, but of your garage and property. looks like a couple interior shots of your other cabinets for this thread too even though they might be on your garage thread or another thread just for some more smiles.

Thank you...walked a few Mine Fields and crawled through a bit of broken glass to get it to this point. The blood sweat and tears were worth it. I am grateful.

No Burnouts...not yet. A few attempts have been made by my buddies but I want to keep peace in the neighborhood...thus mellow driving.

I'll update the Avatar soon...leaning towards the shot from the Helicopter.

Critters...well I sat down with all of them and said stay off...lol...

I am as surprised as you are. We have Coyotes, Deer, Racoons, Wild Cats, ect running back and forth all the time. Not one foot print to be found.

I'll see what pics I can add once I get everything squared away this winter...I need to do a built thread from the day I bought the property. It was a mess. 110 cubic yards of Concrete Block to be hauled out, 23500 lbs of scrap steel, 84 tires...junk everywhere. After the clean up I was offered a tad bit more than 3 times what I paid for the property. I declined stating "They don't make dirt anymore."

4 FN: GREAT PICS, GREAT STORIES and it looks like you might be young enough to enjoy that place for many many many years to come. WELL DONE SIR!!

ALL: i've found a few of these old lockers and this one is missing it's lower door which might be just perfect for a spot in ALMOST MY WIFE'S SIDE of our 2 car garage. as some of you might know i get 9x15 space of our 2 car garage and i also get a wood work bench and shelving on the back wall of my bride's.

i'm posting pictures of a similar one i sent down the road cause i didn't have a spot for it at the time and it's similar, but i'll update pictures of the existing one as i get it set up and maybe filled up with stuff.

ALL: i move my addressOgraph 133 drawer cabinet to my storage cause it stuck out a bit too far into my wife's garage area where she parks her car. i've got 3 more 18 bin 17 inch deep lyon cabinets to put on top of my letterpress cabinet and then finish filling them up. i have more than enough stuff that is for certain and just trying to do it so i can find everything.

Lug: as you can see i need to figure out which ARMY GREEN paint i want to use so i can maybe paint all my cabinets the same color next summer. it might be too much GREEN, but that color is growing on me especially as i keep picking up cabinets and benches that color.

Sadly, I am now at capacity. However, I am working on solving that problem currently.

The curved corner cabinet was a mess when I found it. It's in the middle of restoration right now. My hope is to be ready for paint by the close of the weekend but Mrs. Horsey has a long list of things for me to do. I guess we'll see.

TH: unfortunately we are not all like Twertsy and others that don't seem to run out of space to put their STUFF so a good things need to move on so we can get to ones we like the best as we GET ORGANIZED. best of luck with the cabinet and finding some space cause for me it's a constant battle and i don't want to rent another storage unit that cuts into my tool fun funds.

Almost went through all 50 pages on this thread. But couldn't do it.
Here's my metal.
I have a 30x40 garage and this is the back wall. After looking around for metal cabinets, not wanting wood I found a set of old (some call them retro) Geneva metal kitchen cabinets, cleaned and painted them aluminum color for a kitchen in the garage. The cabinets on the wall on the other side are from Sams club and match pretty well. Sears ball bearing cabinets are below.

PD: nice looking cabinets and shop. i love the steel beam and chain lift that looks like it might come in very very handy.

there are some great cabinets posted here that were made very well in the days when you bought something it didn't have a shelf life. glad you enjoyed the thread.

is your shop always that clean cause i have FSD (flat surface disease) and currently i don't think i have one bench (I might own 10) that is ready to use?

Drivesitfar thanks for the reply.
That pic was taken right after installing the aluminum pegboard on the wall. Right now you can hardly see either bench or countertop. Project after project fills them both up quick.
The metal kitchen cabinets were a great find. Especially for a garage and
the 1 ton hoist gets some good use too. Heck I pick everything up I can with that thing.
By the way, after posting I was rolling around the thread and watched the 10 min. video (Quote of the day) brought a tear to my eye man, good find there!

I've been getting bricks, cement, cedar and lumber for home projects but i'm still looking for cool cabinets so if you guys post up a few at least i can see what i'm missing and enjoy your finds while i'm working on our house.

I just picked up about 2,000 1930's bricks this weekend and I don't have a project in mind, but maybe a BBQ pit with a vintage cabinet bricked inside it? anybody do something creative with cabinets and brick?

Drives, its great to see beautiful old materials reclaimed rather than added to a land fill. They might make great pavers for a nice meandering walk--that would really show off their colors and textures.

One of my favorite projects when I was a public servant was restoration of the fire headquarters exterior in Sea Cliff--a great tudor structure built in 1936 with klinker brick. We had to replace the steel lintels over the casement windows and needed matching brick to replace the ones destroyed when the old lintels were cut out. The architect found a company specializing in reclamation of old brick discarded from old closed brickyards. Klinkers were the bricks once discarded as unusable because they were mis-shapen due to being placed too close to the open fire and usually piled up in a spoil pile. When tudor architecture became popular in the U.S., klinker brick was perfect for the rustic appearance needed when combined with the half-timbering design. While new klinker was made, untold tons of "real" klinker remained in forgotten spoil piles. We were able to locate closely matching brick in North Carolina and had them shipped on two skids. They were mixed with the originals that were saved and the difference is un-noticeable.

great find and in case you didn't know i think all those are Equipto 18 bin cabinets. or did you just stack them all up for the picture? if not they are usually just held together with a few screws so you can maybe have a few more options on where to put that giant storage/organizer. WELL DONE!!

00: we like it and if it had a huge shop i'd be happier, but once i get a few of the honey do's and to do's finished next summer it should be a bit nicer. here's the view from our roof and if we didn't have twins (4th and 5th kids) 27 years ago i had planned a second story that almost has a 360 degree view.

Twertsy....That's a 20 ton Weaver. I seem to have a problem concerning Weaver jacks! Here's a few of them. 20, 10 and 2 ton. I think I've got eleven of them now. That 20 ton is cool, it has dually back wheels, too.

Yeah, a whole bunch of socket head bolts and a lot of roll pins, tapered pin, cotter keys, etc. They made all kinds of stuff, specialty pieces for industry that I could never find a use. Still going through them.

Twertsy....that 20 ton works perfect for lifting my Ford Focus, low to the ground.

SD: HOW IN THE WORLD DID YOU HAUL all those Equipto cabinets full of nuts and bolts like that? i've carried one 18 drawer unit full of nuts and bolts from a garage to my car a few years ago and i bet it weighed close to 300 pounds so your set up had to weigh over a ton. since then if i buy a unit full of stuff i carry out the drawers a few at a time and then the empty cabinets laid on top of them.

CC: i actually made 3 trips across town to pick up all these bricks that were in front of a house on a street that only had one lane. i had to park and put my flashers on and more than few PO'd guys in their Prius and BMW's had to back up the hill.

i started to load up the trailer to maybe get them all in one or maybe 2 trips until i thought that there might not be a chance that my Honda would stop at the stop sign at the bottom of the hill 250 feet away. i actually loaded them up 4 bricks high and still almost didn't stop even going down in LOW LOW gear.

Used a forklift at the factory and as you only one 18 drawer cab. at a time. At home I had to take all the drawers out and then rebuild. The empty cab. is heavy enough.

This used to be the bottom storage cabinet to a 1950s Westinghouse roaster oven. I made an oil cart out of it. It sits on a set of small casters and I painted it up in the likeness of an Alemite work bench. I also made a crude handle so that I can drag it around the garage.

It looked like a wreck when I got it but now it will be fully stocked with oil and rolled around the garage as needed.

That's got interwar/WWII military field cabinet written all over it. I'll ask a friend to identify it.

Ingenious salvage and re-use idea, and well-done. With that OIL badge on it, I dare say few people would recognize its original purpose. Looks like a typical 50's era mobile lube station.

That's the feedback I was looking for. A 1950s lubester is the exact look I was shooting for. The oil badge is hand painted to the best of my ability. You can't tell in the photos but I did clear coat everything for extra protection.

Next up, 1950s Sears & Roebuck hanging cabinet! This one will hang above my Alemite bench until I get my hands on the real deal Alemite surround cabinets. I will paint it up with dual stripes to look almost like a BlackHawk tool mobile.

Nicely done! I have that exact cabinet and have been thinking what to do with it or to sell it on. You have a good idea there.

Drives: On the OD cabinet with the uniform (old hotel reception desk like) type slots. Might belong to a field command post message center or even a field post office. Still waiting for a more definitive ID.
