it has really felt good to actually get some work done on the chevelle . so this is how the center of the torque arm and driveshaft loop all comes together. it may be a bit to grasp a hold of and the suspense of weather it works or not is going to be a while before it all plays out. still making progress feels good for a change.

AAAAHHHHH OK!!!! I thought the torque arm was welded to the rear loop... I see now that it's not. I probably would have tried using a big *** heim joint, but I'm nowhere near as creative and skilled as you.

That's a nice looking place except for all the white stuff.

Lol. It is not for everyone that’s for sure however I love the stuff even though I sold my last snowmobile last year. There is so much beauty in it! Plus it covers all the projects you we’re going to get to before winter for you ! :lol_hitti

<<<<Jealous.

No need for that. Anything you dream you can make happen you just can’t be afraid to fail along the way. It is not about doing great things it is about getting back up after getting knocked down more times then getting knocked down and learning the how not do do things and doing them better afterwards.

Ok I really need your help and others too!!!
so another thing that I have been working on is a plan to make a new youtube channel and doing some full builds and we would like to do it right right from the start by at the same time we are going to be building big projects like the Chevelle we would like to do some smaller builds like making crazy cosplay costumes for comic cons, scooters, bicycles and give them away for someone in need we would love to work with someone like make a wish,st. judes medical, wounded warrior to build some smaller projects and give back to the less fortunate. and I have no idea how to get that set up??
So what we are looking for is help with contacts to help get this stuff lined up and also give us some ideas on good smaller projects we could donate our time on to help some people out. I have been on st. judes site and make a wish as well and there is not anything i could find on being able to make thing for kids.and with anything it is all about who you know. so this is in the early stages of a plan however the more you guys help out perhaps we can make something great along the way!
Please give me your input on what you would like to see on our new channel and any help with some contacts and some other ideas on who we can help out.!

I'm in the same kind of boat. I'd like to pass on some of my skills to underprivileged kids. I don't have the same exact skill set. Mine is more of taking what others throw out and making something nice out of it. Anyway, if I think of something, I'll drop a dime.

pretty sad that this thread has a big post reach and you were the only one that had any thoughts of doing things like this. and my other thread of build something with your kids has to get jump started constantly to keep it alive. perhaps we should get together and have some  and figure out how we can make this happen.

out in the shop putting this old recycled I beam that someone else had started making a Ford 9" fixture jig for dirt track racing and I picked this up as a eqip. package deal so I thought this would be a perfect opportunity for some modifications to make it work better and perhaps help make a rear differential for the Chevelle? never before have I had to hang the part you need to machine with a bridge crane to help hold the weight and the size of the part to machine. hope this works out as planned!

Is the hood used for fumes or the lighting or both? I like the look and the lathe has much better light than mine.

As to the rigging Abom on youtube has done similar at his day job. Usually they are large pins or shafts. Creative.

Lol. You should go back in the thread and read about the lathe. Basically it is a giant paper weight that serves no purpose besides the light and fume hood! I made both lighting fixtures for the lathe and mill both 2@ 4’ lights over the milling machine and one 4’ light fixture under the fume hood on the lathe that does not need a fume hood because it does not work :( the good news is the light and the fume hood work good!

You need to get that lathe fixed, every shop should have one. I'll go back and catch up on the back issues.

made some progress on the fixture jig and the new rear differential housing. the jig was a previous purchase in a machine package deal that was made by someone else. i thought it was going to be some easy modifications however i was wrong! ended up taking the beam on the milling machine and that was a challenge by it's self that was the biggest and the biggest pain in the azz trying to make something precise with a twisted warped I beam and i found out that every bracket that was previously made by someone else was made wrong crooked and offset in every way as well as every piece stamped with a L the beam was stamped L1 L2 ect. however every piece that goes on it was stamped with a L and if that was not enough it was set up for one with rear differential. so changes were at hand. so thinking the would take a couple days it has taking weeks! it is not perfect however i have to get this rear diff done for the Chevelle so shimming, tramming and leveling would have to do for now! still lots more welding, design and fab to come yet but it is starting to take shape! keep in mind this is my first custom rear end from scratch so we will see if failure or success will follow??

striving to perfection and failing ten times more than I succeed :lol_hitti:lol_hitti

Holy Cow........
yea I probably should not be surprised how complicated this got and how much time over my originally estimated time frame.lol.

Can you explain how you used the extruded aluminum to straighten the i-beam flanges?
There is a lot more to it then that this just kicked my azz . Keep in mind that all of this has been made from recycled materials.the I beam is stiffened up with all the 8020 extruded aluminum is bolted through both flanges there is shims under the beam and on top of extruded base are helping take the twist out and shims under the center to help take the sag out of it. Also had to shim the saddles to compensate from the sag. In the future I plan on having it ground flat to take care of those issues .

Are you using a 0.005" per foot spirit level?? I love reading thru your stuff. I get a lot of satisfaction doing mods, but also like modifying so no one can see it.

Yes using a Starret precision machine level. My day job is a Millwright by trade I use them at work all the time to level machines. This was my salution for the warped beam.

this thing has been kicking my azz and I have been learning every day mostly how not to! however luckily I am really persistent and I learn from my mistakes! like a big one I made as I had previously designed the torque arm brackets to be mounted on the new blank housing a friend of mine at Crazy talk customs one of the only friends that i have that i can trust his awesome fab abilities welded the brackets per my design and instructions. well I ffdd up and had him center the brackets on the housing and they should have been centered on the pinion not the housing! to bad Nic is a awesome welder and the sucked to cut off all eight brackets welded 360* around !! god i hate that part when you think your making progress and then you go backwards!! well lesson learned! cut them off and painstakingly designed new ones with cardboard and ended up cutting them out with a band saw and a grinder all eight brackets were completely different, compound angles on a non symmetrical angled housing the kind of thing that just messes with a guy with a bit of A.D.D. so moving forward I got that part addressed and new brackets tacked on and with any luck i can get the rest buttoned up this week! still have sway bar brackets, watts brackets and brake brackets designed up and welded in and test fit!

It looks good, and also very heavy from here. :)

I wondered about the weight too. If only designing for looks (and it knocks it out of the park) it's fine. If it was for racing where every once counts, not so much. I assume looks rules as long as it's still bad *** fast. Keep up the fantastic work!

Things to hold up to huge power and a heavy car with big sticky tires need to be heavily built

Yep. It is heavily built however if it takes the power level that I plan on throwing at it and does not break . I will consider it a win there is always a trade off at any given time with big power and reliability it is always tough to figure out what to add strength to and what not to.
