Mine runs pretty comfortably at 45-50. Granted, it’s wound tight at 50. I’ve had it at least up around 55, but that’s getting uncomfortable. I would imagine the CJ5 would be first to easily run in the 60-70s.

Here you go…now this I can talk about all day. It’s got 10,800 original miles on it. I got it to restore, but it’s in such great condition, I just can’t make myself touch it. No rust. Original owner kept in in a barn and tooled around on his farm with it. I’m owner #3.

Oh my, thank you for that information. I knew I was coming to the right place to learn about these. I plan to use them occasionally to work on my 1946 Jeep….and look at them a lot.

I've got one that was my father-in-law's, dated '58 also, but it's a three drawer with the locking panel. It's what got me started chasing down these old tool boxes and now I'm hooked.

Thanks for the tips on straightening this thing out. I’m missing a retaining clip on one of the drawer slide tracks - is there a source for these somewhere?

Came across these this week - been looking for some of these for a while. The top box looks like it was dropped on the left front corner. Not sure if I can straighten it, but going to try. It was worth $30 to give it a go at making it a keeper. Anyone straighten one like this before?

Not sure what is considered "vintage", but ran across this over the weekend. Does anyone recognize this graphic? The seller said he got it new in the mid '80s he thought. It's stamped "made in the USA" but it's not a real heavy grade.

Tynee - I've done a bit of bondo, but the worst of the pitting is on the inside under/behind the bottom drawer. Not sure I am going to get too crazy in there - I might even POR15 that area to try to stop the rust. I just want to be careful of the locking slider thing to make sure it works...

...well, I guess this used to be a red and gray box. It's mostly brown, blue, rust and red-ish. You get the point. My dad's box was taller with way more drawers, but I've been looking for one for a long while, and this one is a start.

Thanks for the tip on the dates. Found it on the top box and it looks like it was built in 1955. Also, I found a red and gray top box, that I'm going to try to save. Got it for $15 so I don't think I can get hurt - and maybe I'll end up with a usable box. At the very least, I'll learn a few...
