Quote for High Lift Garage Door: Good Price??

I was quoted 750 for parts and labor not including the liftmaster 8500. This includes redoing the tracks, relocating the jackshaft, spring changes or adjustments, and installation of the 8500. This is for the second of two doors in my garage. I already have it high lifted on the other door...

    What's the NUMBER 1 tool you'd recommend?

A good quality ratchet. I survived for years with craftsman and an old proto. I got by. Bought Snap On and I see why people pay. It feels like a quality tool in your hand, operates properly, and just works well. Keith

    Living on Commercial Property

I know people who have done so for years without problems. HOWEVER, if the authorities were to come by (say for a fire dept. inspection), you wouldn't know it by looking around the building. The office is an office, the shop is a shop, and the sleeping arrangements are spartan. Keeping a...

    Liftmaster 3800 questions/concerns

Don't worry about the location of the lock. It can be installed directly above a wheel. Mine would only move about 1/2 inch before contacting the bolt. No reason to mount it with 4" of clearance as far as I can see.

high lifted my garage door- I like it!

I'll preface this with the following: I am not a garage door expert. I don't really know much about them. Even so, I have an opinion. I believe the door weight is an issue. While springs do take the majority of the weight of the door, its mass and inertia need to be overcome by the door...

high lifted my garage door- I like it!

I don't think they are trying to upsell me anything, these doors are thick, wood, heavy *** doors, heavier than my old house's steel insulated door by far.

high lifted my garage door- I like it!

Pattenp, you are seeing things correctly. PassnThru, you don't need to defend yourself, it's pretty hard to see! I have a tendency to overbuild stuff, and when the garage door people say the liftmaster 3800 is pretty weak on such a big door, I'll take their word for it. I'll probably buy a...

high lifted my garage door- I like it!

One door is 8 feet wide, the other is 16 feet wide. The 8 footer only weighs 200 and change, and they recommended not doing the 16 foot wide door! Now that I look at the photos, you cant see that the door on the right keeps going out of frame right! Keith

high lifted my garage door- I like it!

Today I had the local door company high lift one of my garage doors, and install a jackshaft opener. This allows the full height of the garage bay to be utlized (for a lift) in the future. I have almost 11 foot ceilings, but with the doors in their original configuration, the high ceilings...

    Clausing Drill Press

I've been looking for the exact same deal.... And was watching ebay as well as CL for a Clausing 15" floor model drill press. I missed a really clean looking one on CL which was listed at 175... what a deal that would have been. I watched what was actually selling on ebay and a clean machine...

Can I pick up small welding tanks in my car?

After reading all of these replies, I guess the answer is call and see. I used to pick up cylinders and put them in the back of a small sedan, without any issue whatsoever, and the shop I routinely went to had all the signs warning about proper transportation and photos of blown up cars and...

    turners cube

I agree, totally neat. I've never made one, but might try if I get a lathe soon... I'm actively shopping, and ready to pull the trigger soon if I find the right machine. I've seen a neat cube made on an EDM machine. The square shaped graphite electrode was machined with a large ball end mill...

My new restoration project, not a car!

That's the only other LR-105 I know of in private hands, and now it's all cut up. I wish him luck, but Waldo Stakes is a dreamer. That's not a criticism of the man, but of the scope of his ambitions. He needs a lot of money to make any one of those projects happen. I certainly don't have...

My new restoration project, not a car!

It does have a HOA, but they don't regulate what is INSIDE my garage. The engine is about 8' tall, and sits by the inside steps into the house from the garage. The exit cone is 4' in diameter exactly to give you a sense of scale. 930Dreamer- That's the engine I have, but I've been quoting...

My new restoration project, not a car!

what do you do with it once restored? Look at it. A monster of this size is far too large to fire. At about 60,000 Lbs of thrust, it would require more liquid oxygen and kerosene than I have money.

My new restoration project, not a car!

These types of things are quite rare. I've been interested in rockets for a long time, and never seen one available until this one. There is a store which could be called Rockets R Us. It's called Norton Sales, North Hollywood. They have a website, but if you are in the area, its a...
