    Mill/Lathe combo - garbage?

I've been looking for a small mill (maybe 400lb max due to where I can keep it) to use mostly on aluminum. Haven't had much luck finding one. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/tls/5573739576.html Is something like that horrible or is it adequate for hobbyist use? I've used a 7x12 mini lathe and...

    Packard Mill/Drill

I've been looking at picking up a mini mill or mill/drill. Inside space is limited, no way I can fit a real mill or else I'd go that way (transporting it would be a problem too, a 600lb mill/drill is hard enough to get into/out of my truck). Came across this ad: Thoughts? Looks to me like it's...

    Bench Master small mill questions

http://slo.craigslist.org/tls/3942405797.html I found this on CL and was considering picking it up. If I do I won't be using it all that often, but it can be incredibly convenient to have a mill around. Does anyone know anything about it?

    Old Honeywell compressor questions

I just picked up an old Honeywell air compressor off craigslist for $15. It kinda works, but is very slow to build pressure and won't build all that much. I'm trying to figure out where I should start with it... I've never worked on a compressor before, just figured for the price it was worth a...

Reddish-purple coated drill bits - Makita

Today I bought some tools from an elderly couple, including a set of drill bits. The bits don't all match, but some of them have a reddish-purple coating on them and are marked MAKITA HS USA. I'd never seen purple drill bits before, are they anything special or just junk?

What do you spend for CO2?

I just had one of my 20lb CO2 bottles swapped for a full one, spent $26.37 OTD. Is that reasonable or do we get screwed for gas cost in California like we do for most things?

    Welding process

Trying to figure out how that was welded. I think it looks like MIG but am not sure, anyone else have an idea? For scale: the U is 5/32 and the bolt is 5/8 18TPI.

New to me dial indicator, info?

I picked this up in exchange for some work at an estate sale, figuring that any German made dial indicator is probably pretty high quality. Oddly enough there were no other machine tools in the garage, or any powertools beyond a cordless drill. There was a reasonable toolbox, but nothing...

    Drill press ID, chuck removal

A few years ago I picked up a drill press on CL for $50, then had to move and gave it to a friend. Well, I just moved back and he's moving so he gave it back to me. It seems to be a fairly well made drill press, but the bearings are shot. I'm trying to figure out how to take it apart, because...
