Best choices for yard and garden tools in corner of cleaned-up garage?

Some cleanup is nearing completion on the approx 19'w x 23½' two-car attached and 23½' x 42' two-car+workshop detached garages of the house I now live have in northern New Mexico. I'm thinking a corner of the attached garage will be a good place for the limited amount of yard and garden tools I...

What wattage for USB-C PD wall outlets?

I'm considering upgrading a couple of outlets in kitchen and shop at my new place in Santa Fe with USB-A/USB-C PD versions. What wattage does the community recommend? Is it worth uprating to a PD outlet with enough power to charge a laptop? That might be useful in the shop, maybe less so...

Linkage magazine 2024 01-02 -- their "garage" issue

Any other subscribers to Linkage here? The January-February 2024 Issue 016 is focused on the theme of "garage". (Their issues always have a one- or two-word theme, like "muscle", "preservation", "road trip"...) It's an interesting issue. Completely over the top, of course, and not anything...

    Tamper-resistant nut recommendations?

What does the GJ community think of the different styles of tamper-resistant nuts? There are conical grooved nuts, steeply-tapered square nuts, two-hole spanner nuts, and other kinds of keyed nuts. Probably quite a few types in addition to the examples shown below. I'd appreciate any...

    Any motion-sensing light bulb recommendations?

I have a couple of spots that I can allow to get darker at night (a good thing for nature) if they can get light with motion in the area. I'm interested in LED bulbs with built-in motion sensing rather than converting a fixture. Anybody have any specific motion sensing LED bulbs they'd recommend?

DeWalt items at Costco :: Toughsystem 2.0 XL box and work stand with miter saw brackets

Saw these at the opening of a new Costco close to my house yesterday. $70 is about 15% cheaper than HD, so this isn't an over-the-top deal, but it's probably OK if one's in the market for one of these anyway. Item number 1702412. (I'm sure its being next to crates of vodka was just a...

5mm hex wrench on keychain -- vintage Thule bike rack stuff

I've had this 5mm hex wrench for probably 25 years or more. As I recall it came with a Thule bike rack, and the hole in the end of the ell allowed me to put a split ring in it. I like this little guy a lot. Compact, visible, and always ready with my bike rack and lock stuff. I'd love to have...

    Circuit/breaker house maps? Ideas?

One of our forum correspondents mentioned in this thread creating a map of the breakers and circuits for all the outlets/lighting/fixtures in his house. (Thanks, @Max.) That led me to think about the several worksheet versions of those I've created over the years and that I haven't really been...

    Running with scissors

We don't often talk about scissors, as noted in the thread on tools that don't come up on the forum. There have been some interesting scissors discussed on the Tools of Japan thread, and one or more of those might make it into my accumulation someday. Since almost all of us have scissors -- by...

Milwaukee M18 Fuel chainsaw carry bag -- only in Australia?!

I could use this carrying case for my chainsaw. Looks well designed to fit that saw's sorta awkward profile, has room for files, etc, and is stated to be lined with a drip tray. Only in Oz, though, it appears. I haven't found anything equivalent over here. Has anyone found any other good...

Errors trying to start thread with photo URLs?

Several times over the last few weeks I've had this "Oops! We ran into some problems" error when trying to start a thread. I've sometimes fixed it by deleting all the photo links, posting just the text, and adding back the photos by editing the post. That doesn't always work. What am I doing...

Vintage metal 35mm slide boxes -- for what should I use them?

A friend gave me a couple of 1950s-era Da-Brite Co. 35mm (2-in square mount) slide boxes. Boy -- back from a day when stuff was *seriously* built! I have a thing for boxes -- whatever syndrome there is that involves organizing stuff into neat containers, I have it -- but I can't figure out...

"Fallen leaf" decorative concrete -- how'd they do that?

Took these pix a few years ago of work ongoing near the Minneapolis Convention Center. I like the fallen leaf style, and could imagine something similar in some concrete flatwork that needs to be done here over the next year or two. How do they do this design? Foot or phone shown for scale.

WD-40 back in stock at Costco -- with a nifty spray tip

It's not exactly a "hot deal" -- unless one considers almost anything at Costco a hot deal, and I tend to -- but WD-40 is back in stock in the warehouses. I've been waiting to get a few cans for my shop for a year or two now. I'm surprised at myself to appear to be recommending WD-40. It's a...

Anyone with US-based experience and the RAL paint color system?

Does anyone have any experience getting paint in the US color-matched to the RAL color library? The RAL color standard, managed by a German nonprofit organization, is commonly used in Europe. It's similar to the Pantone system many here in the US will be familiar with, but simpler. There's a...
