When life gets between you and your garage

I grew up in my parents garage. I had a bedroom too and later the basement apartment, but since I was about 14, I was asking my parents for rides to Harbor Freight and messing around with my (immobile at the time) truck. Fast forward 10 years. Stainless steel rolling tool chest packed full...

    Unheated FPSF Advice

Unheated Frost Proof Shallow Foundation Advice I'm building a 16x24. I have done most of the site work and I have a concrete guy starting tomorrow on the forms in preparation for a pour on Friday. He's done insulated slabs, he has 30 years experience, I trust him, but I don't quite know if he's...

16x24 build with bonus automation, irrigation, well, and garden

My garage has run out of space. Someday, I'll add another bay and bump out the back wall while I'm at it, but for now, I think a shed will suffice. Where, why: The spot I put it in is pretty convenient. It's next to the garden, next to the irrigation well, 30 feet from the road, out of view...

Tempted to oversize my conduit and fish an air line through to the shed

2" conduit with a 3/4" rubber air hose @200psi and some 10-3 wire. I don't see anything that could go wrong. How crazy am I? I'm already doing the 10-3 wire at 46" deep, 1-1/4" poly tubing for water at 40" deep, and then 1" conduit for Ethernet at 34" deep. (But I'm also tempted to just run...

Just finished up my 3" thick butcher block workbench

A few of you guys helped with suggestions on how to apply a finish to it and I'm planing on doing that in the summer.. but I promised I'd post up some photos of the beast when it was assembled. It's finally there! Probably not the most overdone bench on here, but when I posted it on another DIY...

I'm thinking of putting formica on a pegboard for a cool look. Thoughts?

I'm not sure why it popped into my head, but I think it'd be a really awesome look for the corner I have the workbench in. I have white walls, a solid butcher block table, and stainless steel shelving/toolbox/cabinets. I'm thinking of clamping the sheet to the board, creating a drill guide...

I'm building a 3" Douglas Fir butcher block workbench. It's too soft. Finish tips?

I'm building a 3" Douglas Fir butcher block workbench. It's too soft. Finish tips? Hey everyone. I've been slowly putting my garage together, and my latest thing is a butcher block table. Lowe's had a shipment of absolutely beautiful, flawless, tight-grained Douglas Fir studs. I just had to...

Came up with and built some new organizational storage last week

I was browsing earlier this month and had an idea of a hybrid aerosol cabinet/small parts storage, eventually I came up with this design and built it. I wanted it to look like it's one with the shelf above it. I sourced the doors, racked my brains out coming up with the sizes of shelves, the...

    Hardware organizers for toolboxes

How are you guys doing it? What brand, where did you buy it, how do you like it? I probably have about 40 pounds of misc hardware laying around that I need to sort out. I bought this big beautiful stainless steel toolbox to do it, then I realized I forgot to look into organizers. Oops. I'm not...
